Hmm, might take a break until the next patch.

Marc, I hit a similar lull about two months ago. Lately I've been catching up with all of the game's I've neglected since Horizon's first launched. Civ 6 in particular has been getting a lot of my attention. My advice is to either take a break like I'm doing, or to radically change your activity list within the game.

Yes, Civilization VI is looking very attractive to me again-especially as their Fall Patch is due for release. Might spend a couple of weeks playing that instead :).

No, it's not just you OP.
I was grinding out faction to get Allied with everyone in Sol when they completely nerfed passenger missions. Now all I can get is either 100,000 credits to take 20 tourists somewhere 10LY away or 20 mil credits to travel 20,000 LY.

Wow gee. What a choice! And that's at allied. 100,000 credits for an allied mission. What a joke.

The only missions that pay decently are assassination, skimmer, and black ops, but I don't like doing black ops because it tanks my reputation with neighboring systems and factions. Sometimes it tanks the reputation of the faction that gave me the frickin mission in the first place.
Someone explain that to me.

At allied I can't be bothered to do a planetary scan mission for 40,000 credits either. Sorry. Ain't happening.

I would rather take a break and wait for missions to adequately pay for the time you invest in them. Thanks FDev for nerfing all the fun out of making money.

Tourist missions are now best paid from tourist stations IIRC.

not only you OP. I have the same. Loved the mission board with 20 missions per faction.I'm a bit burn't out too. But thats normal i think when spending so much time on 1 game.
Now i'm just starting with Divinity Original Sin 2, keeps me busy till i feel the ED itch again :).

EDIT: the 10k bounty at shinrarta dezhra, helps a bit too :), need still 5 day's till its legacy!

Yeah, my experience of surface scan missions is the bases now are barely defended. Not even any ships nearby. Maybe a bug? Did you try reporting it? Actually, never checked the mission ranks. Is the problem perhaps only low rank missions are spawning, or whether the high rank ones are not giving defended bases? Might be worth checking.

Assassination missions i've found to be a bit bland as well. Always just 1 ship... not much of a pirate lord. I remember some patches back pirate lords would usually have an escort of 2 or more ships. Even if they were just eagles. I'd like the higher ranked assassination missions to be more of a challenge (and also give +++ REP/INF). Slightly amusing how even the Harmless ones have to going after pirate "lords".... some improvement could be done there with the text. Something like "amateur pirate".

Anyway, instead of letting these things get to you, there are other things do than just a few mission types. I sometimes take a break of a week or so, but rather than get frustrated, i chose a different activity to focus on for a while. And if something really bugs me, ill write a suggestion or file a bug report.

The ranks for these missions were the same as the ones I did just last week-when it was working as intended. Also, if I pick a Civil War or Wartime surface scan, then I do expect more than just a milk-run.

I think FD are possibly listening too much to one of the sides of the player base.

Some people love milk runs, and "the grind" and don't seem to want any hiccups or challenges to overcome.
This is perfectly fine if that's what you enjoy. (I'M NOT SAYING ITS WRONG!)

But then 'our side', which likes the game to bite back, get left with milk runs galore. Lol

Unfortunately, it's really hard to please both sides.

Basically, every single mission type needs an alternate version that is most definitely not a milk run. Lol

Even a cargo run should be chaos, fail on scan, etc.

Well, in theory the game can give that with the rank requirements for missions (which are not really requirements, but suggestions). The problems seems to be that that part is borked. Elite missions often seem to be about as difficult has Harmless missions.

Just bad luck. This past couple of days involved me getting my Elite Exploration done, with a couple of 2000-ly explorer passengers tagging along while I also cleared a few 'local' bookmarks I've accumulated over time.

Yeahh...I avoid all these missions for several reasons, primary one being that they give *no tangible bonus* compared to simply doing a single courier mission............

Ugh, there's a lot they'll have to fix to get me looking at Civ 6 again. Like how you *cannot have sea tile production* without being Suzerain of one specific city-state (so if it doesn't appear or gets taken over you are screwed), or how the Civilopedia somehow ceased to have any pertinent/useful information whatsoever. (Look at the Beyond Earth Civilopedia and compare the two, it will make you wonder if they totally lost their heads.)

Some neat new concepts but good lord...it's like they forgot how to make Civilization games.

I really don't want to do it, but at the moment the missions just haven't been quite as enjoyable since 2.4.03. The incredibly low levels of follow-on mission spawning was already bad enough, but the latest patch has seemingly turned all the surface scans back into milk runs again :(. As well as a handful of other reasonably trivial mission bugs (like garbled mission text). I'll do one more session to confirm, but after that I might take time off until 2.4.04? is released......hopefully that will fix the problems.

Out of interest, is anyone else seeing these problems, or is it really just me?!?!

I did about 6 surface scan missions in the last days and only one involved some defenses. The one instance of defense was quite tough, because i wasn't really prepared and landed close to the turrets and got nearly shot down when leaving with my DBE.

But in general, yeah missions are milk runs. I got allied with all minor factions @Daedalus@Sol during the last week and there were mainly fly from A to B missions.

Not quite that extreme, when the next patch (2.4.04?) Comes out, I will give it another whirl.....but it is Q1 that I am *really* hanging out for now.

In all honesty I think most are waiting for Q1.
But if there are improvements in 2.4.04 I will see on the forum and give it a whirl.
Now if I start up I just sit there staring at the landing pad.
Just burnt out I suppose gonna give star trek online a go through lack of choice on xbox.

Kinda pointless to try with unengineered ships.
Not at all; I do loads in my Vulture before I ever engineered it - and I really wouldn't consider myself a great pilot. I'd say they verged on the easy side, if anything. Just check the rank and don't pick ones that are higher than your current rank (unless you are confident).

Also, back on topic, I've had loads of follow-on missions since 2.4 plus lots of random contacts offering missions (most of which haven't been great, to be fair).

Immediately after 2.4 dropped, planetary scan missions were great fun. I even started a thread about it (as did Marc, I think :) ). I always only take the high paying missions (over 3m), so they should be high ranking and I'd expect some excitement. The vast majority are simple "scan public beacon" trips, though, which while I don't mind them, they don't fill me with excitement...

Even a cargo run should be chaos, fail on scan, etc.

Cargo runs from anarchy factions, certainly. I spent ages getting allied with an anarchy faction in my home port just to get the more exciting delivery runs. I'm still waiting. :D
