Bind Your Chat, Folks

I figured seeming as this thread is here I may as well ask:
Does elite allow the use of the on screen keyboard?

Some games don't work well with the on screen keyboard so I need to ask. Preferably try it in both windowed and fullscreen mode.

Just for chatting purposes.

Hey,

Now that there's a text/voice-chat in-game, go ahead and bind the key-command to bring up the menu, everybody!

I've been sending a text-greeting to almost every player I come across, and haven't gotten a single response. :( I'm kind of assuming that people are seeing the message and being like "Whoa, someone's talking to me! What do I do? What do I press? Where do I type?". Either that, or they're assuming I'm a pirate & skittering off.

For me, the key wasn't bound by default. I can't remember what it was called in the options, but it was pretty obvious. I bound it to 'K' for Tal(k), personally. It brings up a little menu next to the Comms-panel, and it's pretty intuitive: at least for the basic couple of functions that I've tried.

Come on, folks, let's hear some chatter out there.

i did respons :) if it was me. I have always the feeling in supercruise to say hello , the respons is slim yeah :p

I'm currently being confusered by the "mute mike" button. I've got it set to TOGGLE, but I seem to have no visible indication whether it's on or off.

I dont' want to start each conversation with, "Hi, can you hear me? <press> How about now? <press>Was that hello to this... <press> or this...?"

Has anyone noticed a UI indicator for mike active/mute?

Testing it last night with friends, only one of us could be heard by the others but he couldn't hear anyone else nor could anyone else. We'll stick to teamspeak as don't want to play with the great unwashed...

I'm contacting everyone too. A few people have responded but we never stayed together long as we were going to different places. My problem is I'm using a rift so it's hard to read the text in the comm panel but the voice hat works fine.

Unfortunate it's not push to talk it's push to mute. The mic is constantly open. Backwards I know, I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

Tried comms a couple of times night - had fun with a commander in SC to see whether we could do anything to each other (you can't) and eventually got voice comms going with another (both friends now, cheers guys! :) )

It works but it's very fiddly IMHO. Not sure what the solution would be as there's only so many buttons and modes you can define on standard controllers and HOTAS setups, and having lots more key binds would mean awkward switching to controller to keyboard.

Someone mentioned than push-to-talk might be better than push-to-mute.

Another thought I had was a standard 'reply' button (common in most MMOs) that would make text chatting considerably easier once you've hailed someone.

Keep at commanders.

newbie question, not to start a new thread for that:

How do you chat at all?!

Yesternight I opened the Comms Panel, could select a Cmdr around and typed Hello Commander. Was that ok so? Cause I never got response.... And as you're 'bout voice, I'd like too, but... how does that works out? Do you have to initiate the txt chat with the one you want to talk with? Is tehre a local speech channel? Any infos on how it works generaly?

tia :)

I too have tried hailing every one I meet. I send them messages, get no response?

Could comms even be working? Has anyone confirmed they work yet?

Still too busy figuring what's going on and knee deep in cables in the hold so they get to the button I want in the cockpit to answer radio chatter guys.

Just fun that everybody writes:

"I texted HELLO to every cmdr I saw, but never got response from..."

Now where are all the

"Heck, some said hello to me but had no clue how to answer... anyone?'

I forgot to assign keys for chat. Loaded up in multiplayer for the first time yesterday. Someone tried to send a message, but I couldn't respond.

By the time I'd assigned keys, they'd gone. Sorry cmdr Dixie ????. I'll say hi if I see you again.

Someone called me tonight while I was docking... I was too busy wondering what the &*(^% that sidewinder was doing in my windscreen to realise that bleeping noise was the ship's ring tone till after he went away. Oh well, next time I'll know.

It could have been me haha, I did a buzzpast someone I messaged who were docking but I didn't want to loiter much longer as I was getting loitering warnings :)

it definitely works, had a brief text chat with CMDR Ayo while supercruising. Tried to voice hail but the CMDR didnt know how to answer it...I've yet to be hailed so had no idea either..

If your commander's name is a slightly mis-spelled star wars hero, then yeah it was you. Didn't mean to ignore you. :)

I've had a chat with another pilot. He said "Hi' to me, I replied with "Greetings Commander."

He then flashed me (with his lights) and flew off...

I'm yet to experience voice.

I'm looking forward to meeting other like minded players to chat to, have as my wingmen while jumping round the conflict zones and hunting pirates.

oh remembering a first approach to a player which I might have scared the hell out...I was chatting (text/kbrd) and at the same time was setting up voiceattack, weapons.... suddenly:
"WEAPONS DEPLOYED".... OMG!!!!! "RETRACT WEAPONS! RETRACT WEAPONS" !!! Didn't worked out immediately, as that command wasn't configured yet :D :D :D The other on went away, a chance for me he didn't armed against :D
