Frontier always say they want to take their time and make sure everything is done right whenever they're asked about future updates, but everything they've released so far hasn't been done right, it just seems like an excuse to put off the more difficult and expensive tasks.
I think they'd 'like' to do it right but just don;t know how. Every release to date has been a bug-ridden, shoddy affair. And for that I'd hold the project management team/person solely responsible. Whatever the coders produce, it's the project managers job to ensure it's fit for delivery. It is obvious at this stage, that the quality control level in Fdev is virtually non-existant. They [it seems] prefer to rush content out the door and let the players use it and then spend an age trying to fix it. Which in turn, reveals more bugs, which they then try to fix, which in turn... You get the idea.
The amount of silly bugs I see, also displays a complete lack of testing by the coders themselves. How-ever it may be, that thy are being rushed, by a schedule which is (over) ambitious.
Also, the lack of a coherent roadmap is detrimental to the product and the longevity, viability and sustainability of the franchise/product/game.
Comments such as 'If you don't use it we won't develop it' in relation to MultiCrew, was a huge insight into how FDev work. They had an idea, rushed it out and then claimed it was for the players to support. How-ever, the MutiCrew addition is barely usable, buggy and needs a lot more work before it can become a reliable feature.
In addition; comment on the bug submissions such as 'let us know if it's working in version xx.xx' just goes further to highlight how know-one knows what is actually going on, what is being fixed, if it's being fixed, and what the result may or may not be.
Fdev, in my mind need to take a step back and decide firstly, what E.D. actually is. Right now, it's neither Game Nor a Simulator. Then they need to decide what that entity is going to have. Constantly adding buggy features helps neither themselves nor the players.
A huge question FDev need to ask themselves; If SC was to release tomorrow, how many players would they lose? And what would it mean for their fiscal forecasts. I'm of the beleive that if a comparable Space game was to release in the short-term future, FDev's E.D. future would die. And die fast.
There are only so many ways to drag a game out, and to date, FDev have stretched that to near breaking point.
