What's more important to you: Space legs or atmospheric landing?

Atmospheric planets.

However, once landed I would want to get out and go for a pee, but given the choice atmospheric landings all the time.

For me athmospheric planets is a must. I want them to be in the game as soon as possible.

Space legs for me is optional. Don't really need it, would be nice to have, but only if the rest of the game is solid.

Atmospheric planets coming next would make sense and is likely going to be the case.

But, it's gotta be space legs for me. Braben said they want to do them right and make sure there's actually stuff for us to do etc. So I look forward to their implementation because it's going to add so much more variety and depth to the game.

Atmospherics. Just let me find a Mars simulacrum and do some Mark Watney impressions once I face plant my DBX.

And then find some HMCs orbiting a blue star. No, orbiting an L type that closely orbits a B.

Atmospheric first, this is a flight sim, not a shooter.

Well, there's much more that EVAs could be, rather than a shooter.
However, i agree that considering some updates they did, the temptation to go just for the shooter part would be strong.

Space legs feels like the next natural step because they've already added a great character creator while planetary tech is still going to need an entire year of development as shown at FX17.

Having space legs doesn't just instantly make the game a "shooter."

Instead we are going to get "Show me your wares please." :D

Gameplay is the most important thing to me. I don't just want pretty worlds or lava planets, I want new ways to interact with the environment. Space legs sounds great but walking around my ship to change my outfit and feed my space loach isn't gonna cut the mustard.

Atmospheric landings would need a science update bringing things to do whilst looking at the pretty erosion and water, whereas space legs needs so much put in to make it work.

So atmosphere first, with gameplay.

Oh that's tricky.
I think I would go with atmospheric landing though too..

Thing is, I think to do that well might be more challenging than space legs. At least with space legs you can come up with a few tasks and bits and bobs to do and have these operate in a relatively restrained way in (and around?) your ship, on stations and _maybe_ on planet surfaces.. Good atmospheric landing by itself probably isn't a huge challenge, you want some interesting in atmosphere flying stuff (tricky but fine) and some pretty graphics (time consuming, resource intensive but fine) but then having lots of interesting things on those planets to do and see is going to be time consuming I think. Unless people are happy with atmospheric planets that are also relatively baron, I reckon we could have that relatively cheaply. As soon as we talk atmosphere we end up at terrestrials and then we get in to the whole 'how do you do cities (or other settlements)?' and 'what about all those trees and animals and stuff?'. That is time consuming and challenging.

Depends.

Basic dead atmospheric planets don't really need legs to be fun.

But planets with life, would be a bit dull, if all you could do was run them over in the SRV. Lol

The way I see it, I reckon, we'll get lifeless atmospheric planets first, then probably legs, then maybe ELWs.

That's also the order I'd prefer it in.

Sorry, the finger wasn't aligned... now it's better.

Atmospheric landing.

This would introduce millions of new planets to land on and scout (I wonder how would it work on water worlds, hover mode? pontoon?). Space legs would be just new way of exploring already available bodies. Plus ships interior and stations.

In my book:
atmospheric landing > space legs.

I would prefer space legs with 3 functions attached to it :
- Collect stuff
- activate
- drop stuff.
First person could make it easier to develop, and they don't have to turn it immediately into an fps.

I'm a less sure about atmospheric planets adding content... after all, if I'm not mistaking they're still working on the building blocks to make planets look better.

Well said.
