Are you guys happy with the current game and how the game has developed?

I'm still playing and having fun. So yes I'm happy.

There will always be things that I think can be improved etc but thats the same for all games. But for the money I've spend I feel I definitely have had my worth of it for sure.

I wish I could afford to spend more on ED. Got ED+horizons+few small items in shop. Also if there was some bundle of lot of skins for all the ships with some weapon or thrusters packs. Or just some nice starter bundle so you can customize a little bit of everything on your ship i'd buy it. I'm too lazy to buy all that crap but bundle for customizations of everything would be nice.

Throw few skins for every ship + maybe one kit or two here and there and make it a bundle. Done deal!

Just wondering what people think about the game at the moment.
I paid 150$ (The the two 75$ betas)plus a few skins to support the devs and I honestly feel that they haven't lived up to anything close that could of been. So no, Im not. Not trying to start a flame war, just wondering what you guys think.

i've got the bang for my money and i think it's a very good game. however 'how the game has developed' has had quite a few shadows and i think it could right now be way better without some dubious decisions and ineficacies, specially this last year. it irks me to see how people rally to 'support frontier' (e.g. buying trinkets) while one could cry at the amount of squandered time and resources. but there is little value in doing so now, and in the end it's still a great game. it's a one-time process and problems are to be expected. also, it seems frontier has now plan to address that. not that it's the first time this happens and imo it hasn't panned out all to well until now, but i'd like to be ... skeptically optimistic.

While I am not new to the Elite universe, I am new to ED. I found FEII on an abandonware site, and played that for a bit. I have known about ED for years, but did not have the rig to handle it at first. But after playing FEII for a bit, went for ED as it was the latest in the series with considerably better graphics and so forth.

I bought via Steam after checking their refund policy (I have a few games on Steam, but wasn't really playing them), but in the first week (weekend, actually) of playing I far exceeded the 2 hours, and haven't looked back!

I think that I am too new in the game to say what could be improved on, there will always be something, but overall am happy with ED. I like the open-endedness of it, the flexibility of roles I can play (or just sit and stare at a sun if I want (but not too close!)). Some people need structure (which you can have in ED if that's your thing), or not, which you also get out of this game.

Got the base game, thinking of adding on Horizons soon, but also wondering I should rather not wait for Beyond? Whatever, even without the expansions, the game can be played and enjoyed (mho).

I usually rate games by "hours having fun playing the game/€" - how much time I've spend playing the game and enjoying it and how much did I pay for that time. Fun-hours/€ if you want.

Using this metric Elite Dangerous is the absolutely best game I've ever played - or the cheapest.

Other than that: I enjoy playing the game - after playing this game for almost 3 years.
Do I think the game could be better? Yes.
Do I think the game should get better? Yes.
Do I think this game is the best possible game based on the developers, development time, money available for development? I don't know. Maybe? Maybe not?

Basically this.

Question 1: Am I happy with the current game
Answer: Yes and no. Some aspects are superb, some aspects need working on (which they will be doing).

Question 2: Am I happy with the way the game has been developed.
Answer: Again, yes and no. Some of it I am very happy with, while other aspects, not so much such as Powerplay and Multicrew.

But this can be said about every game ever made. So not a major problem for me. As long as the beyond series of updates are good, then I will be even happier.

I am read everyone opinion. And i think now i can summarize all of this into one post.

Q: Are we like Elite?

A:
Yes, we freeking love it.

Q: Are we like current development process?

A:
No, we have a lot to be concerned about, still there is some hope.

Q: Are we enjoy the core gameplay?

A:
Yes, that is a main reason why we play it so far.

Q: What we think about last updates?

A: They could be a hell of a much better than what we get. A lot of things to be concerned about.

Q: Are we happy with a game as it is?

A:
We have love/hate relationship with Elite at this moment.

Q: Was Elite worth it's money?

A:
YES. A LOT. Probably one of the very worthwhile game (for players like us) on a market. For it's money.

Q: Are we happy with a game design?

A:
No, we have a lot to be concerned about.

That is pretty much it. The whole thread in one post. What you think?

Still.. i tend to belive that one of the most big problems of Elite at this moment is a community that don't need much to be happy. Even the "bone" that FD throwing to us whenever they want (mysterious things) can be enough to be happy..

Welcome aboard, commander! Starting with the base game is a great way to get acquainted with the game. You can always add the Horizons update later. Horizons will open up much more in the way of gameplay, but there's plenty to be discovered in the base game.

Here's to a long and fruitful gaming experience that I'm sure you're in for. :)

I'm still here, I'm still playing it, so it can't be that bad, now can it?

Horizons already adds a lot. However, I suspect there will be a 50% sale during the holidays again, so if you're in no rush you could save $15 that way. :)

I like it. When I launch the game, I find myself in the pilots seat of an awesome space ship able to fly through a simulated Galaxy.

Everything after that is extra.

I am with you. Not to mention that I have my choice of several awesome space ships, with fancy paint jobs and decals. Life is good...in space.

Am I happy with the game? - Success! I've played ED more than virtually any other game!

Do I think the game's moved in the right direction? - Failure! I feal too much of the past two years effort have gone into shallow forgettable mechanics and gameplay.

Result? - I'm currently not playing. I hope the past two years was a detour rather than an example for the longer term and, next year, finally the game will truly move forwards and I'll find something to entice me back.

Word of concern... So even at the end of next year, four years on, it would look as if still a huge amount of the game will be shallow placeholder gameplay (eg: piracy, bounty hunting, PvP etc etc). This worries me!

Some, but not exactly. Here's what I think and what I think those who are happy with ED think:

Q: Are we like Elite? -agreed.

"

Q: Are we like current development process?

A:
Yes, they've done the best they can up to this point. The credits show over a hundred staff working on the game. The only real slowdown was probably getting the PS4 version working. PC has their own staff. Fdev have been working with honest and realistic expectations within the ambitious scope and framework. The tech and development for the stretch goals of ED may not be available for another few years or more. Unaffected by misleading expectations of SC's kool-aid and yearly gamescon oz-curtained demo shows, we are patient and understanding of FDev's development process and happy with their dedication. When Sandro said "time and resources" that's exactly what it means.

Q: Are we enjoy the core gameplay? - agreed.

"

Q: What we think about last updates?

A: They were good additions. MC was a good framework for future spacelegs and interior ship&station gameplay. Not much complaints about SLF's which means the addition was excellent. The thargoid bases and alien artifacts found have been well made and the new thargoids are creepy and alien in the overall thematic design. Engineers help in many aspects of ships hardly confined to only PvP. Excellent particulars of horizons are rarely praised in the forum in new "critique" threads.

Q: Are we happy with a game as it is?

A:
Happy with it. With the scale involved, we are lucky to be able to play a game on the cutting edge of mmo/solo hybrid across a realistic shared persistent galaxy while another project/ponzi/whatever sells dreams in .jpg ships. By the time the other real competition (X4?, Dual Universe?) get to a working beta, two to three more years will have likely passed and ED will be that much further ahead.

Q: Was Elite worth it's money? - agreed.

"

Q: Are we happy with the game design?

A:
Yes, great detail with the horizon bases. With the patches since 2.1 there was more improved on the background details. They continue to fiddle with it and work on it trying to give the players a best looking and workable updated galaxy. We know it'll take years to further evolve the game as we're only year 3 out of a ten year plan. The other project/ponzi started in 2011 and have blown through $200 million and are still trying to pass off scripted demos and ads on one buggy planet and moons and try to convince with kool-aid and expensive looking ship trailer ads that's it's somehow currently on par or far superior to ED, a laughable delusion.
