VR users is missing out what Screen users have

I would most certainly suggest a transducer like the BK gamer as a start. IMO the ships feel very lifeless without some form of transducer. Are you UK based? I'll have a spare one in the next month or so, a forum user kindly donated his BKgamer to me, I'll be flying home to pick up my original one next month, would only seem fair to share the free one with another forum user.

Or.. a 1KW sub as part of a 7.1 home theatre system.

2 of them is even better...

Z...

I added the Buttkicker gamer to my setup a few weeks ago and it really adds a lot to the immersive effect. The cost is really reasonable too, at least in the US.

When you first get VR, you will feel like you are moving... Alas this effect wears off after a week or two.

I have had VR for well over a year now and will never go back to a 2d screen for simulations like Elite, Flight or Racing.

Why?

When playing Elite Dangerous on a screen, it feels like you are playing a game. The screen vibrations are there to try and immerse you.

In VR, you are in the ship, flying the ship and experiencing everything at its true 1:1 scale.

I know which of the two I prefer :)

Use transducers and you wont need virtual shaking... they just add, what you are asking for, but in a far more real and immersive way.

I seem to be in minority here, but I would like to see this as an option. Back in the dk1 days, Hawken mech "sim" had cockpit shaken when walking, explosions, projectile impacts etc. It was cool and made it feel dynamic and rough ride, really added immersion a lot.

Ok, I understand you guys. Playing in VR as great as it is, the total lack of any cockpit impact is disappointing.
VR is supposed to mimic a real pilot and it succeeds greatly. But I can not help but feeling a little "deatched" from the cockpit.

Some feedback would be good in my opinion. Maybe just a little bit to make you aware that heavy forces are in play.
Like slight cockpit shift when using afterburner or a slight nudge if hit by a cannon.

VR is supposed to make you feel immersed in your pilot seat and real pilots certainly get to feel vibrations and forces in aircraft.

If you not feel imersed in ED VR, i dont know what would. :) Try to supercharge your FSD in a neutron star some day perhaps. :)

I've been playing a bit of screen the past few days (tuning my HOTAS) and there is no way I'm missing out in VR.

I also play with screen when I need to stay aware of my surroundings. To be honest, nowdays I've been noticing the lack of "physical attachment" with the cockpit when returning back to VR. Ride feels so smooth and glued to seat. I love Elite in VR, best VR experience still, but why not let the shaking be an option? I also loved SRV back in the days before they smoothed it out.

Looking at videos from people who play on monitors I can clearly see the cockpit moving and shaking depending on acceleration, braking and impact forces in the game.

These are completely non-existant in VR.

Please add :)
Yes. This makes the VR experience pretty boring for me.
Boost = ship is perfectly still.
Hyperspace = ship is perfectly still.
BORING!

Now on to your point, the camera shake and movement used to be enabled for VR users in the early days of Elite. It was horrid. Any sort of forced camera movement in VR in a big 'no no' and can cause a lot of discomfort for people. This is why the camera shake and movement was forcably disabled in Elite for VR users many moons ago. Although I personally have no issue with its return (providing it's an option) I really see little point.
That was my understanding of why FD forcefully disabled the camera shake. I don't really get nauseous in VR so I very much want the option to turn the camera shake ON.

I agree. The OP seems to be getting a bit of a savaging here, but I'm certainly not averse to an OPTIONAL cockpit shake. Many other VR experiences have similar shake to good effect (eg Apollo 11).

I do agree that the camera translation that occurs with lateral thrusting would definitely be a no-no in VR.

Nor do I

spoken as someone who HASNT played in VR with all those features on ;)

(ie please DONT add those features, or indeed I asm fine if they do BUT if they do, put them under an options setting "stuff that really should not be on in VR until you know you have an iron belly" ;)

seriously tho, getting a buttkicker is probably the answer.

Project CARS 2 delivers perfectly on visual rumble and vibration VR features. Yes, some people said they get sick, so they turned it off, but for me, as i do not get nausea (since i got decent frame rate), it is really adding to the tension of the situation, when driving a race. I bet a few subtle effects here and there wouldn´t do any harm.

that's a very kind offer from a nice guy , you got the christmas spirit in you Driver [yesnod]

If cockpit shake was available as an option i would definitely try it.

Buttkicker - while i havnt ever tried one i did slap two dayton audio 30w transducers in the back of my gaming chair last week and the shakes are a very nice addition.

They are driven by the electronics from my old subwoofer, just cut the leads to the original element and wired in the transducers in series instead, works perfectly and with a little software bass boost they shake enough that i worry about disturbing the neighbors even tho my chair is on a floor protector on a foam mat.

Total cost is 16ish GBP per shaker, i had wires and the sub.

Im going to try put tingthe shakers in series with the original sub element soonish as i always used to run the sub at the lowest settings since it would be too much bass otherwise, i dont run the shakers at max either so there might be enough power for all thre.
