Star Citizen Discussions v7

Why does it say "NO BOB"?

I think it actually says NO-808 - it's just advising would be pirates that the 808 - which is an extremely rare item in the future - is not in fact on board. Thus saving them the trouble of pirating and being dissapointed!

Yeah, SC as of now is giving me the exact same vibes. NMS said trading, combat, whatnot..yet a month before release, there was not a single game loop video. And people were surprised that it was nothing like Sean Murray painted it. But just as they got a free pass and get new coverage how they get better, I'm betting the same will happen to SC. They invested so much into the shilling, they would play it even if it was excrement.

NMS story is different because HG actually owned their words. Also they released actually playable game - despite it's all shortcomings.

I just not seeing it happening with SC any time soon. They aren't even ready to do big E3 style demo for media on big screen.

They still got 2 loanes to pay off, the security is all the assets related to SC and SQ42, if they don't pay back the loanes on time it's hammer time.

I don't know if backers realize how much this could impact the whole game? CIG lives from day to day basically! It's like take one credit card to pay for the other one! It ain't working. The further this goes on the more they are getting it in the Asp!

People call skeptics haters and naysayers but fail to recognize the drastic differences between imagination/dreamweaving and actual development progress. I more then once have been swayed by fans who described the project status and its potential in its most glorious colors to me in the past but once I got into the material myself I wondered about all kinds of red flags which showed a different picture. Whenever I approached said individuals to ask em about these incidents it was always the same...either outright disregard to even the most glaring shortcomings on behalf of CiG, sugarcoating reality and in some cases of course hostility and blaming of me.

Its okay to "hope" for somethings success. I can understand a personal decision to stand behind something against all odds. Been there in the past. But its this willful and deliberate ignorance or disregard of painfully obvious shortcomings and problems that leaves me perplexed and confused at the mental state of my discussion counterpart. Not coming to an agreement is not really a problem in this case. For starters I am not invested so apart from a temporary sadness in case Star Citizen tanks I wont lose anything over it. I can only imagine how my behavior would change in case I would be in by 24.000 dollars like this fella who probably defended his actions over the years with "disposable income" and "I dont care" but suddenly turns around and is willing to shell out MORE money and go to battle in small claims court to get it all back.

Me personally I was at first confused and then offended by all the unwarranted hostility directed at me and others posting innocent and IMO perfectly acceptable questions which every game in development must and does face yet somehow Star Citizen is an exception and needs to be treated like a child so pointing out glaring differences becomes rude and trying to apply logic and established patterns fruitless.

Star Citizen does a lot of things differently then all the other game companies churning out games. It starts with the polishing which comes before even the most rudimentary alpha was up and running but there are actually lots and lots of things which raise questions and doubt. The ONLY defense a rogue like that has against ridicule and mistrust is its success rate. Regardless how funny or strange an approach seems at first, if it works it aint stupid and others will confirm you and start to pay attention, maybe even try to copy your approach.

Where are Star Citizens successes that justify all these ridiculous claims of an unquestionable success and already developed technologies that "other companies surely would pay millions for to possess"? These successes only exist in theory and in fan posts (or CiG statements). Trying to find physical proof always ends in the same result.....disappointment and a reality check. This has gone on for more then 5 years now and still people refuse to accept the possibility that Star Citizen is a high-risk venture. And the only thing that becomes stronger the more development time passes is the feeling of being shafted and given the runaround by CiG.

People joining the controversy NOW might have the impression that there are 2 equally extreme factions participating in this "trench war" but thats not true. In fact without an overly extreme reaction by one faction alone to begin with I doubt very much that all of this would ve blown out of proportion as it has. Would Derek Smart be on the warpath today if he wasnt kicked out and publicly humiliated at first? How many participants on the SA forum or even here wouldnt give a rats behind of Star Citizen if it wasnt for the treatment they received by the SC cult? How many people who started to look into the project because of an interest have long given up on a successful Star Citizen and return because of the drama it all generates? Even in media the surrounding "war" generates more interest and attention then the actual game. The opposing party has become noticeable bigger in recent months and the cultists and fanatics wonder openly why so many people "waste their time with something they have no real interest in" and simply fail to realize that its THEM who generates the interest and who made the other person what he/she is by now (vocal skeptic, opponent, hater etc). DS wouldnt be such a well known factor linked to SC if these people never harassed or stalked him, if CRoberts himself wouldnt have called him out or pointed to him in his extremely unprofessional outbursts. DS been made what he is today by the very people who oppose him. I could ve dropped the issue a long time ago, labeled Star Citizen a failure and scam and move on. That some folks continue to return to the topic and post here or other places probably is the responsibility of the people who first attacked and offended them personally then tried to argue with them and call them liars and haters when they tried to address valid concerns

No doubt its "personal" for many by now. Not necessarily with CiG but certainly with the shills, fanatics and cultists surrounding the project.

So....the people who had the strongest belief and WANTED the project to succeed are in part responsible for its downfall and the current unhealthy controversy surrounding it. It would be funny if it wasnt sad. And of course they only carry a small part of it because they never scammed others and drove the project into a wall like Chris Roberts did (and still does).

Even here I see some of these things happening. Recently people have managed to keep up a good conversation pace about the game itself but in the past it always was the same pattern. A lot of inactivity and docile posting behavior which suddenly turns frenzied whenever certain individuals show up to spread lies, propaganda and outright troll the rest. After a shortliving climax or moderator actions things returned to normal only to flare again when the next individual showed up. Its because Star Citizen and its continuous no-show is extremely boring by now. Watching ATVs and other videos about it might be entertaining and fueling to some but are overall considered "sleep-support" by many and watching this small part of fanatics go overboard is really entertaining. No doubt there are a considerable number of trolls in the skeptics camp by now who get their daily dose by "triggering" or "poking" the cultists. The fact that it doesnt need an elaborate construct or effort to do so only increases the number of trolls while Muckas counter attempt here fell flat on its face instead :D

I wonder if these people will recognize one day that their trench war and outright "hate" of others is self-fabricated and wouldnt ve happened this way if they only would ve reacted differently in the beginning. Involved parties are so unforgiving and unmovable by now that only a definite result will "settle the score". Which is the success or failure of Star Citizen. Nothing else will do. And while CiG had really good and solid chances at the beginning of this venture it managed to turn its chances of success into the mud. Many consider success a "miracle" by now and investigating all the turns and stops of CiG over the years only uncovers an ugly truth. That CRoberts probably never had a roadmap to begin with, that he never really knew exactly what the game was supposed to be nor did he ever had the knowledge or skill-set to manage a company without supervision or program code himself. These absent qualities dont necessarily mean that Star Citizen was a failure from the start. But it means that CR would have had to rely on other people who possessed these qualities. People with actual knowledge of todays technologies, gameplay proficiency and understanding of available tools. He had access to these people, he just opted to outright ignore their advice or capabilities and instead micromanaged this train off the rails himself.

Take any kid and leave it unattended, observe what will happen and most of the time you ll end up with a total mess YOU have to clear. Some select few might behave and come up with an extraordinary example of their genius but nobody could claim that Chris Roberts didnt get that chance. He did and still does tho outside the veils of protection provided by his cultists and fanatics CR has turned into a comedy show which is often funny and sometimes sad. His outright ignorance or disregard of existing problems in official statements trying to transport a picture of peace and success color him in a shady light because the overall census is that "he cannot possibly be this stupid" so either he is.....or he does it deliberately.

Considering his life or what I know of him (managed millions of dollars in the past, is married and has 2 kids, is older then me, got "life lessons" in this very field) its eaaaally tough for me to grant him innocence or naivety in all this. He navigated the pittraps and problems of life longer then I did and he managed to be at the top at some times. I know I m extrapolating/assuming but I always have learned from past mistakes to a degree that even tho I wasnt protected from making them again I was at least able to recognize my own fault in it. I refuse to believe that CR simply "doesnt see it" which leaves me with only one reason I consider likely by now especially as so many begin to call him out only for him to keep defending success and a good progress in the face of a sea of red flags.

So for me its a scam.

To be fair, people always spend some money they won't be too happy to inform their spouses about. I guess our desires and secrests are on display there. Who knows, I spent quite a lot of money on ED and my other half didn't know it. I felt bad about it for considerable time. Lies aren't way when you are in relationship. Still it is all human and understandable.

This is also reason why I am sometimes very angry at CIG. Because they certainly exploit lot of people who don't have all facts to make decision for a purchase - but certainly have weakness for having dreams in their life. It is exploitation of worst kind.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I do not blame the poor suckers who did that... everybody does pull crazy stunts. Heck, I've done stuff I'm still ashamed of, ten years later, having made amends and all.

It's as you put so succinctly: sometimes you get suckered into doing something, because you yearn for something . . . and exploiting that is not nice. 850 for a JPEG? Not the same thing as, say, 850 for a high-end graphics card, as that you can sell for (almost) fair value...

A few months ago I saw a video of a dude that was talking about the plans of THE COMPANY regarding exploration and colonization. I don't know how credible that dude is, who he actually is, what his sources are or in what relation he is to THE COMPANY, but he was explaining it, in much detail actually. I don't even know the video link anymore, but it is definitely out there somewhere (look between 2013 and 2016 on youtube).

Anyways, the way he described it, once a new planet if found from a jump point, it will start generating missions, first scouting, recon, prospecting, then transports of workers, terraforming equipment, later parts for factories, more workers & colonists, basic supplies like food and water, since they would not be self-sufficient to start. The numbers of missions would be massive, to the point that it would be difficult for any one group to colonize a planet alone. It would be a massive undertaking, for every single habitable planet found. So you need a big coordinated attempt with 200+ players to make it work. There might be other groups attempting to colonize too, so there will be political negotiations sometimes turning into peace, coalitions, war or even the destruction of the whole planet, impacting the colonization process and the economy of the galaxy (if you watch the news during a colonization conflict you might be able to make extra profits, by selling medical equipment or ammunition to that planet for example; or you will be able to use the chaos and dog-eat-dog-vibe that unfolds hours before a planet will get destroyed to enslave players or save them for inhumane amounts of cash [you can still enslave them when they are on board so you would make double profit]). You will actually need trained workers for the terraforming equipment that might be needed, it will be possible to alter the composition of the atmosphere and soil if you know how to do it (so this is another potential career for players, terraforming engineers). They are also plan on making players able to create planets, so the gameworld will be expandable, although this will very likely be quite a resource-hungry process.

You know I think I remember that video. It was back when CiG actually had competent people on board who came up with innovative and promising ideas. Lots of those managed to jump off by now tho so its no wonder recent announcements and "news" have been lacking in ingenuity. That interview stood out because of its detailed descriptions contrary to the "everything will be totally great" and "yes" CRoberts announcements. Of course its now years later and not even pieces of actual progress hints at these capabilities or making this visions realization any more likely. 3.0s capabilities are a mystery carefully hidden behind a NDA and tho some people claim they know exactly what it is they cannot prove it at the risk of legal retaliation by CiG. So the public remains clueless and undecided till at least the end of the year and considering CiGs track record when it comes to date probably even longer. Doesnt sound like a runaround and carrot-on-a-stick at all :D

chuckle....seriously? :)

I have a question - why CIG and SC keeps appearing on glosy journals while basically screwing their backers over without any question about project?

While FD and ED gets question at every corner and even well meant updates get snarky articles on Eurogamer?

It is me or I just don't get some big picture here?

Maybe other companies dont pay for a good review but try to make a quality product that will get one for free?

Something that made me smile

She corrected her initial claims in the description by now but the video really drove home the conditioning Star Citizen backers endured over the years and expressed what makes em tick and how they see the world. So paying 1000$ of RL money for pixels is fine because its exactly the same as every other game. Only here its a "real life pay-wall" whereas other games like ED have an "ingame-paywall" meaning that you have to spend ingame currency to buy new stuff so both games use the same tactic when it comes to ingame ships.....NOT. Dont mention that games had this "earn, spend, improve" pattern since they were invented SC backers somehow manage to make the mental "leap" to justify the shameless exploitation on behalf of CiG.

In this example its hilarious to see how people who crucified and condemned a different game because it was competition turn around and praise its graphics and how its "fun". I m not sure if D'Angelo deliberately ignores the obvious and tries to put a positive touch on a different game trying to keep her viewer base because she realizes SC is dead and she needs a new focus like WTFSaurus. I fail to see how "Star Citizen backers" are special enough to warrant a video like this. I mean for a "naysayer" and "hater" like myself it sounds like she outs this particular group of people admitting that they are indeed "special". Either way, its refreshing to see ED gets the attention and praise it deserves :) SC defenders and flagholders suddenly make a 180 and "ooooh" and "aaaah" over other games knowing it comes across like treason so they try to link it heavily to Star Citizen and the only thing thats missing is them coming right out and stating "but yeah folks, Star Citizen doesnt exist at the moment so why dont we play another good game instead?" and turn it as you want.....ED delivers and bar accepting its current limitations it does actually progress whereas Star Citizen is stuck in development hell.

At root, the problem, at least as I see it, is that the crowd-funding was too successful too quickly. The huge amounts of cash gushing into the project opened up huge new vistas of potential development, and CR, with his "visionary" vision, just couldn't resist chucking as many concepts into the mixer as he could think them up.

There must be times in the wee small hours when he wakes up and thinks "How in hell am I ever going to make good on all the stuff I said would be in the game?". And then another sackload of cash falls out of the money tree and he just thinks "Sod it".

That's actually the mentality of a relapsing addict you've just described. Worrying times.
