Each CG less relevant than the last?

I've done a very large percentage of the CGs through the years but have skipped a greater percentage lately. I don't think I'll even touch the current two.

The basic concepts of CGs are downright boring. No matter what cr/hr they would promise, no thanks. Not interested. I do love ED, but if I would doing CGs I'm not sure if I'd still playing...

I agree totally. I get accussed of being negative but come on fdev. Get a decent dev with some creativity and make these interesting. Plenty of ideas on forums you can choose

I think I've moaned about CGs twice in the time I've been on these forums and, TBH, I stand by what I've said about them.

Thing is, every time I've moaned about them, shortly afterwards a CG (or a series of them) appears which really captures the attention, is well-attended, useful, and makes me feel like it's ED at it's very best.
The recent CGs at Kamadhenu being an example of this at work.

I think it's a cyclical thing.
Sometimes CGs are dull, repetitive, abstract or feel pointless but then, inevitably, one will come along that hits that sweet-spot and they're definitely worth participating in.

I wanted to farm forum karma and all FD gave me is CGs. :D

To the last 2 posters: So true. But as long as enough people are doing these CGs they will stay that way and nothing will change. Would be really cool if we, the community, could actually "lose" in a sense of a noticeable (at least) disadvantage. But this I have yet to see and so this whole CG nonsense will stay totally irrelevant to me. Fortunately, the game offers enough other interesting things to do.

I don't really buy that argument about the Aegis CGs. There's no way Frontier will ever let us "lose" against the Thargoids just because we failed a certain CG, so interesting this thought may be...

Aegis CGs where about distribution of mods not their existence in general.

I haven't really been involved in CGs before. I did the last Aegis one (I was one of the very few who bothered) So I am happy to join in with these especially as I can sign up for both. I haven't really done bounty hunting before so this seems like a good time to give it a go.

The other reason I wanted to be in the area was the description as it does kind of suggest something else will happen there. With it being Halloween it seems like the perfect time to move the Thargoid narrative along. If nothing happens it will a bit like trolling on FDEVs behalf. The only thing that makes me think I may be wrong is the AEGIS expansion and station building back down near Maia makes it seem like that is where the next big thing is happening.

Another good reason for me is to have a little break from mining ore for Selene.

Last one I've did was Emperors' Dawn one - then I've realised that actual effect of CGs on the world is underwhelming to say the least, its boring, and does not earn that much, so never again (at least until they drastically revamp it).

Only ones I remember which was kind of useful - one because of which you still enjoy these ship discounts in LYR systems.
Also one when they allowed everyone to buy any Imperial ship regardless of rank - got my Clipper that time. These were the days.

Now get off my lawn

A CG that allows one to bypass rank grind? Sign me up *immediately*! Don't even worry about paying me money, just let me at it!

Anyone that knows me, knows what I think of FDev etc, but in this case, the blame is not on FDev.

CGs are requested in most cases and in any case are an easier way to make credits. CGs are NOT just for the Cutters out there. There are many, many players, for whom, an extra few million on top of what they earn killing or hauling is a welcome bonus.

Anyone at top 3 level, knows of many easier ways to make credits, so... Use them. The CGs are not a primary credit earner, and never were.

So you would advise a new player, hauling let's say 100 tonnes, that they should be spending their weekend in 35,000ls of supercruise doing that for 30,000 credits a run? But the end of CG bonus you might say..... Which won't be large because the people with larger ships aren't going to make many (if any) trips meaning this CG will end on a low tier, although one thing is still for sure - no matter how small the bonus it will be worth more than their trade profits. So pointless, on every level, even the most basic and joyless level, credits.

And I wasn't including the Bounty Hunter CG in this because, while it's pretty basic, formulaic stuff, at least it works on the monetary level, bounties are the same everywhere but here the bonus will be a relevant amount, as opposed to being a lure for newer players to waste their time. I'm not expecting miracles here man but to my mind putting stuff in your game that is worse to do, on every measurable metric, than normal gameplay is harmful to your game in the long term.

Based on current trend for CGs - the next one will be:
Donate credits to a help all the poor traders that have been operating at very low profit margins for the last couple of months.

It's been a while since I made any serious credits doing a CG!

Just one run will give enough payback for a new player. In fact, I am planning on doing just that a bit later - though I'll only be able to carry four tons in my Sidewinder (new account started earlier this week). The point of the run is that it'll earn the minimum bonus for taking part, which as a new player is actually quite substantial (certainly worth the half an hour it will take to do - including travel time from my current location).

... we have had 4 weeks of "Thargoid CGs" in which the only viable playstyle was completely un-Thargoid related...

Factually incorrect.

All of the community goals had requirements to deliver various Thargoid materials.
In addition they also allowed commodities which were much easier to obtain.
This was to allow for commanders to contribute who were not able to fight a Thargoid.

In a parallel universe there is a thread complaining about a goal with Thargoid only materials being "Too hard" ;) :p

If you read the description carefully on this week's CG it could be interpreted to suggest that it maybe going to be interrupted by Thargoids.....perhaps the invasion is about to begin.
"The party is over here"

I hope so! After all it is halloween and a few monsters would liven up the party.

Does anyone one remember the picture of a starport on fire?

Wasn't that the same type of starport that this weeks CG is at.....

The "gaming" part in this game becomes more boring by the day. I might just do exploration from now on and forget about the rest. Even app games like galaxy on fire had more narrative than this..... Frontier Fanboys will come out and say "Go on... leave then..." deep down... they feel the same..

Yeah I'm gonna do this as soon as they fix the planet colours/shaders/whatever it is.

Gotta commend the mods tho for really trying to counter the understandable gripes. Almost feel sorry for them :)
