Planetary Scan Missions - ARRRRRRRGH!!!!!

Completely broken.
If you get more than one mission for a system, it will send you to the same planet. You land there and scan the data point but there is no way to find the other unless you leave the system and come back.
In between you get multiple "Mission Critical Message" messages telling you which planet to got to. Even when landing in a different system. I really don't mind having to come back to a system to complete the mission but the multitude of "Mission Critical Message" For the same mission drives me absolutely bonkers.

All of this was on Yerava B4 had 3 missions there.

1. Drop into system "Mission Message" OK no prob.
2. Honk system "Mission Critical Message (Yerava B4)" Telling me what planet to go to. Fine
3. Fly to planet and drop out of super cruise "Mission Critical Message (Yerava B4)" Telling me again what planet i should go too. OK i Got It The First Time.
4. Deploy SRV (On the planet next to the outpost i'm going to scan) "Mission Critical Message (Yerava B4)" What The Hell? I'm On The G*%$ $#@* *&^%$#! Why TELL ME AGAIN?

5. Even after leaving the system, landing at a port or leaving a port i get "Mission Critical Message (Yerava B4)" until i complete the mission ( After going through 1,2, 3, and 4) or abandon it. [mad]

All of the mission updates may not bother you, but it bugs me to the point that i will no longer bother with them because they are so annoying.

The multiple incoming messages drives me nuts. Do you get the same thing? Do you ignore them or just delete them?

It's not a bug. It's a game play issue. I dislike all of the redundant messages.
I haven't checked the other threads to see if anyone has had similar issues.
I'm sure some players just ignore or don't care about incoming messages.
Maybe it's just me, But it is irritating to the point that id rather do something else.
(Meaning fly different missions or just explore) I love this game. :)

Yes, missions do have a bit of overload from mission critical messages at times.

TBH, once I am familiar with a mission type, I pretty much ignore them (other than to read them and clear the box out when I have a moment). I don't know if the idea is to add excitement or action to missions, as quite a few of them are pretty redundant.

You can filter them out now in the inbox, but that is not ideal, as once in a while you'll get a useful one, and then of course you wouldn't get it... :)

what bugs me is missions for the same base require me to hyperspace out and back in several times.
why on earth should I have to jump out and back in and redo what I just did!?!?!?

you do not have to leave the system. just leave the surface and go into supercruise. look at you nav panel to the left, when the surface scan target no longer shows up there, turn around and go back to the planet. the surface scan target will show up again but be for the next mission. I stack these all the time.

I make so much money from those missons it’s just great. Going back in forth from SC sounds to me that you don’t have a detailed scanner and an advanced scanner as well. I used to have to do that until I saw what i was doing wrong. Now I scan the system when i get then when get to the planet. I might have to fly around in circles for a tiny bit after dropping out of glide but thats it. And yea i just take a quick glance at the crit message and ignore repeat messages

Another workaround is staying on the planet and logging off back to the main menu and then relogging.

Generally the surface scan missions are fine (in my opinion). I don't think they're broken at all but have been tweaked with 2.4.

This:

2.4 The Return - Update 2.4.02 - Downtime scheduled

Hi everyone,

The Elite Dangerous galaxy servers will be down for PC for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The updates will go live to PS4 and Xbox One at a later date (I'll confirm the date ASAP) - the console versions of the game will not be affected by this downtime.

The change log will be posted below... ASAP. Thanks!

Fixes and Improvements
Missions

  • Fixed issue whereby mining missions could be turned in for profit without leaving station
  • Reverted the reward for the Dead Missions to 10 million after it erroneously changed back to 100 million
  • Prevented planetary scan sites from spawning in the same location
  • Rebalanced passenger missions to be much more in line with other mission types
  • Rebalanced distance from star reward elements
  • Increased chance of skimmers on planetary scan missions
  • Fixed an issue with rank mission and permit spawning
  • Fixed incorrect mission (incredibly high) credit rewards and expiry times
  • After reviewing overall player experiences since 2.4, we've adjusted the number of missions the servers attempt to send for each board or passenger lounge

I carry both. so are you saying that once you scan the data point and then get in your ship and fly around, that the instance will reset with a new target or reset the old target?

I just ignore all the messages, go scan everything without reading any of them, then go turn the missions in, then delete them all.

People in April: "Hey, Elite sucks! It doesn't communicate at all! How do I know what to do?! It's driving newbies away!

People in October: "Hey, Elite sucks! It's holding my hand on every step of a mission! It's annoying!

Sigh...

Ohhhhhhhhhh i think get what you’re talking about now. It says two data scans but at the same base. If that’s what you’re talking about it just scanning a different AP. Yea the first time I started flying around then just to pand again 15 secs later. Then I decided to scan another one the next time it happen a boooom there it is

This has been happening to me, too, as the OP. Used to be my main income and grind for promotion - I take on as many as I can at a time, but it is now completely broken, as the guys says. I'm losing more rep than I'm gaining. Time to take a break until the next patch. Extremely frustrating to have to visit the same planet several times (especially when that planet is 480,000LS away) and scan the same thing x times and never have the mission completed, whilst the scan data fills up at a rapid rate and deadlines get missed. I give up - I'll take the rep hit and fines and stop for a while.

The cocky posts are unnecessary - and irrelevant.

btw - going into orbit, having it reappear on the nav list and then landing and scanning it again does nothing to change the problem.

I've had the same thing as the OP a bunch of times, including the strings of redundant or even empty messages.

You get a new base if you do that but it's the same one as far as I can tell if you just go to SC.
I keep it selected on the nav panel.
Ironically to get the fix to work properly you need to relog.

Good news - been playing since my last post and completed 4 such missions and they have worked as they should. One of the planetary scans, at FK5 2550 9 D, I had scanned a total of 4 times yesterday, with no mission success - just did it a 5th time today, and it has finally worked properly.

This did seem to be connected with having multpile missions in the same system. FD fixed the old issue of having multpile missions completed by doing a single scan - but obviously there has been some kind of hiccup in that fix.

I have a few more planetary scans remaining on my task list - I'll report back on whether I am able to complete them without issue or not.

These missions are a lot better than they used to be. The only issue I have now is when you have more than one mission for the same system, and then one in another. Depending upon what order you took the missions in, the scan may not register to the correct mission. e.g. I took two scan missions in Cubeo, and one in Lambda Hydri. The Lambda Hydri one I took last, but as it was on my delivery route I actually completed that one first. However, it made my first Cubeo mission complete. The only thing to do in this situation is to log out then in again, and you'll get the search zone back for the planet you are on. In this example, I had to relog twice to be able to complete the missions, and all of them were completed in Lambda Hydri (which is obviously wrong).

If in the above example I do the Cubeo missions first of all, then it works as expected (Cubeo mission completed, and the other search zone already exists for me to simply fly over to).

I have stacked these missions to the same planet.
What I found was that there are multiple outposts spawning in the area. Some can be around 1km out from my first location, some a bit farther away.
As I come in to my first site I always hit the external cam to have a look around and see where they are.

Is this since 2.4 dropped? Since the update, any missions on the same planet usually require me to go into supercruise again to get to the next search zone. Prior to 2.4 they'd all spawn in the same place (and all be completed by scanning one of them anyway).
