Panther Clipper - What Are You Expecting?

In Braben and Fdevs defence.

Coming does not include a notion of when, just that it is.

Totally disagree. Performance in delivery of content is so consistently sub-standard that this attitude does not even qualify as an excuse as to why.

Nor does the excuse of "it looks really good" so that's where the time in development goes.

Time to call cowslip I'm afraid.

Frontiers timescales to delivery are monumentally slow and no longer justifiable.

They need to stop drip feeding ships and get them in game, no excuses.

They need to stop abusing the core base by using Open as a mechanism to slow down development, of the actual game, that actual players, actually want. Also, simply ignore all the "Carebear vs Git Gud" total nonsense that it creates. It's why everything needs to be "balanced" instead of quite frankly my own fleet of ships and my own journey through the game being none of anyone else's damn business.

And they need to hire some more people to develop the content that should already be available, as obviously they don't have enough.

Where's all the revenue going? As it doesn't show in game.

As for my realistic expectations?

I bought the game nearly four years ago, to fly the Cobra, Anaconda, Python, Boa and Panther. I've had the first two for three years now....and was very much "meh'd" when the Cutter and Corvette turned up, when they had just as good if not better designs already. And then somewhat outraged when some genius took the decision to lock some of the ships behind a grind wall that can only be described as total rank.

By the time I see the inside of a Panther, I'll be too old to be able to fly the damn thing. And if I'm not crippled by arthritis by then, have to put up with it being a lifeless, paper thin hull with no shields or guns as some muppet wants to tantrum over the amount of money I'm making in Solo.

Why not go the whole hog and make complete non-sense by insisting I have to be a King AND and Admiral to fly one?

/rant

That is all

I'd like it if it had a few hardpoints that were turret only, not even on the forward firing arc, and a few slots that only took missiles.

" ... do you hear that sir?"

"Hear what"?

"I dunno, some vague tapping noise"

"Oh for the love of ..."

*Angrily hails a corvette to knock that sodding PA fire off or he'll make him repaint the outer hull manually*

What am I expecting regarding the Panther Clipper?

I'm expecting to NOT see it anytime soon!!!!

Seriously, I doubt we'll be seeing this ship for many years yet. It's most likely going to be something between a large ship and a megaship, like a VERY large ship that can't fit through the slot or dock at platforms. That means it will need shuttlecraft of some kind, which is a new mechanic, which won't be coming in 2018 most likely with the focus on core mechanics. Maybe even small and medium ships will be able to dock inside the Panther Clipper, acting as said shuttlecraft. It's possible that the upcoming fleet carriers will be prototyping this very mechanic, giving players control of "very large" ships which smaller ships can dock inside of, and they aren't coming until Q4 2018. Either way, I don't think the Panther is coming anytime soon.

A 1,200+ ton cargo hauler?

A SLF Carrier with multiple launch capability?

It's supposed to be a huge cargo carrier, or the Type 9 Heavy's big brother, but what are you expecting for FSD, cargo capacity, utility slots, hard points, etc.

PS. There's the Puma Clipper as well. Should that be brought back?

I expect a ship that lives to its fame of the past - a ship that ignores all the other ships, however hard they try to shoot at it. The Chuck Norris of all the ships there is. If it shoots at you, you're dead. Or more than dead - you don't get rebuy, your save is wiped. It eats Farraguts for breakfast and shytes chains of Majestics.

It will be too fast, too slow, too sluggish to turn, not be big enough, too big, not enough cargo capacity, stupidly huge cargo capacity, be both better and worse than the T9, the Ananconda and the Cutter, allow people to earn a 'conda in an afternoon, be worthless for making credits compared to [insert pretty much anything you can imagine] and obviously it will kill the game.

Just like every other new thing in the two years I've played according to the forum. :D

Don't forget it should be able to one-hit kill an Ocellus by ramming.

It will be also responsible for demise of FD and world in general.

Expectations for Panther:
Largest cargo capacity by far
4 engines that rotate down when landing gear deployed.
As long as a beluga and at least as wide as a T9, with a broadly rectangular cross-section.
Rounded nose as per ZPG design language.
At least one class 4 weapon mount, as it is said to be able to carry a huge PA, but maybe this will justify class 4 mining lasers and other "weapon-like utilities."
Remaining weapons in turret-friendly or even turret-focused locations.
SLF bay.

Puma Clipper
Design somewhere between Adder and Panther. Round nose, heavy set frame, lifting body wings.
At least the bulk of it's firepower in turrets on at least top center of body. I'd suggest similar caliber and placement to FAS, but less distributor support and agility mean less of a fighter.
Roughly Python sized, slightly more cargo-centric alternative to Python in ability and role.

Type 7
Can it please land on medium pads already!?!?!?! Ditto Type 6 on smalls. Look at them, they are made to fit snug on those bays!

It has to be fairly useless when it arrives, we can't go further down the arms race where the only way to beat a PC is a wing of the big 3.
The problem with that comes 'wah my huge expensive ship got destroyed by an npc eagle, i paid a fortune for it so it should be invincible'. That then leads to the sad state of affairs we have now with the big 3, engineered to the max are all but invincible.

1000+ cargo
a good number of class 1 and/or 2 weapons
probably no more than 20ly jump range ladened
external docking
