censorship on / off

Censorship is evil.

Please add an on/off switch to activate censorship filter.
If you must, default to "on" but provide the ability to turn it off.

Reasons: 1. it is not effective 2. censored words are easily spoofed 3. the filter contains numerous words unknown to Americans and other regions 4. did I mention censorship is evil? 5. We have huge numbers of potentially suggestive system names 6. some censored words are common usage regionally without offense

I certainly endorse this.. When I disable a swear/censorship filter, I do so with the full knowledge of just how expletive homo sapiens can be.

Hell, I learned swear from the best of them too! (Hi Mom!) And she could cuss enough to make a sailor blush in embarrassment.

Agreed. You know when you can't name a ship after its own name, that the naughty word filter is broken.

Try naming your Federal Assault ship a Federal Assault ship.

Umm, why? Is seeing 'sweary' words really that important to you?

Nah, as an adult, I am hard enough to accept a few naughty words, even find it amusing at times. I'd like to opt in too see "Huge *insert whatever word here*" as a ship name as apposed to "Huge #######". I'm big and ugly enough to deal with it. Let me opt in. You can continue to see hash tags, that's fine, and you're also happy. Win win, no?

Is < please don't evade the swear filter > such a bad word that it must be censored? Really.

Hi edgepixel,

at the risk of stating the obvious.... there is a difference between the GAME and the FORUM.

The forum has rules which do need to be heeded and evasion of the swear filter that is used is one of those things that the rules don't allow.

The game is entirely separate from the forums.

What amazes me is how people cannot express themselves without swearing. Are some people here construction site workers? :p

It amazes me that people can't accept that it's just part of day to day life, and that adults can accept it and move on.

Regardless, rules are rules, whatever, an "opt out" option would still be nice. Seeing as slavery, drug use and murder are all (to name but a few) prevalent themes.

Kinda reminds me of the US... It's ok to drive a car at 16, to shoot a gun at 16 in some states.

It's also OK to go overseas and kill people at 18, and is even encouraged by those that run the country.

But geez, heaven help you if you dare to drink a beer before you're 21...

+1 from me

Adding an option to disable it should be easy enough.
I don't mind it being on by default, as long as I can turn it off.

I'm not 5, and I'm not easily offended.

I play Arma III, and most people just draw male 'parts' on the map when they're bored. No one cares, except the mods. Lol
And they swear constantly.

All you need is that rating message that says "ESRB Notice: Game Experience May Change During Online Play" during the opening screen.
