Star Citizen Discussions v7

That's the one that got taken down on youtube earlier today.

ETA - dissapointingly light on saluting tbh..

Really, someone posts a video that at least show some of their networking technology working an they take it down. Sure there are bugs galore but that actually look like progress from previous reports about their network code previous.

CIG are doing themselves absolutely no favours here taking these videos down.

Not really, most stress tests have the players actually trying to play the game. They were asked not to do anything. Also they have not updated the "netcode" in 3.0 so there really no point to stress test old code.

Oh, I don't think it's deliberate: As you said - idiocy.
Maybe it's my NZ bias showing, but CR's militarism seems (to me) to reek of the US Pacific campaign in WWII, with Olisar playing the role of Pearl Harbour and the Vanduul acting as the Japanese. I'm not sure why, I'll have to think on it a while.

I more think SQN 42 will be the US Pacific campaign in Space, with the overarching story of SC is the UE being Rome and her fall, the Vanduul this time playing the Vandals, the Xian being the Sassanid in role, if Han China in Theme

I watched the video, and yeah.. 11 FPS isn’t worth bragging over. Still, this is Star Citizen we’re talking about. Supposedly it used to get like that if there were 10 others somewhere in the same instance, and now it’s only while they’re in the frame (and quite a few more than 10.) It’s gone from abysmal to just horrendously bad!

3.0 might not constitute what we’d call a game, but it’s absolutely positive progress. I’m looking forward to the next free play weekend.

No, it's completely worthless.

There are going to be million of complexity layers added on top of it (mainly everything related to AI) that will inevitably bog down the performance.

WTH? I thought I knew of all of this series of games. How did I miss this?

Yeah, there's technically 3 strike games: Wings of Glory, Pacific Strike and Strike Commander. But it does seem that Pacific Strike loves to fly under the radar and is quite rare from my experience of years of hunting down old games. It's actually pretty good btw.

They can't do another free-fly weekend until 3.0 is available to everyone, as it would draw attention to the reality, that 2.6 is the released Alpha version. Highly unlikely to be this year, I'd have thought. Perhaps that was what you were thinking!

So that evocati video, if the framerate drops to single digits when looking at 30 characters how do people think they will be able to have large battles in this game. The server has previously been the restriction with it's data flooding but this time it wasn't, it was the gpu.

There seems to be this opinion that having lots of people on a server is proof that server meshing will provide large battles but if your gpu starts choking at 20 characters/10 ships it doesn't matter what the server can handle.

They have very long way to go...and that test was without any action.
How this will work with FPS action and ships flying around and shooting at things?!

OTOH...this is a preAlpha build and such issues are to be expected.

A better question is why is CIG spenfing so much time and effort polishing a preAlpha build and making it "playable"? All that was promised was to let them play the Alpha...and we don't have that yet..
and the Beta...nor that either.

Performance issues at this stage isn't a major concern.

CIG spending millions polishing the game world and keeping it open for public play is an issue...squandering the money, rathet, given the likelihood such work will be thrown out.

Ahh - but they'll probably just mesh all the GPUs using the mycelial network.

I'm no dev - but that's what I'd do - deffo!

Even better question: why this game after 5-6 years of development and +160m in preorders are still in broken Pre-Alfa stage...

and that neverending "polishing" for CIG is not actual polishing of working things, but trying to fix totally broken stuff...they are just hiding under this nice marketing word..
