Alien archaeology and other mysteries: Breaking News, Theories and Tinfoil Hattery

Particularly if it is not quite ready to be found yet...

I'm thinking Raxxla will be an atmospheric planet, so they won't let it be found until, if we ever get the ability to land on atmospheric planets. It's possible they will lose interest in this game and move on to something new and shiny before then.

I have a feeling that Raxxla is the planet that you see when you start up elite horizons. It would be a classic case of hiding it in plain sight. Also a bit of warped humor in hiding the most sought after hidden place on a screen that the majority of people have to see to play the game.

I do like this hypothesis! it would be so typical of FD. So is the station the alien artefact??
has anyone started to do a background star search? :)
Must take a screenshot when I next get onto the PC.....

edit: but seriously, has anyone identified the system & station in the ED startup screen?

I had a whacky theory about disguising myself as a Thargoid ship (at least enough to fool whatever the Thargoids use for sensors). Regrettably the following combinations did not work:

4 hearts
2-4 cyclops tissue samples

4 hearts
4 cyclops tissue samples
1 thargoid resin
1 thargoid biological components
1 thargoid technology components

We don't know how their sensors work or what they detect, which could explain why they scoop escape pods as they get confused about what they are. My guess was that if you have the right stuff in your cargo they might get confused about whether you're a human ship or a Thargoid ship. No change in behaviour though from the normal "you have Thargoid stuff in your hold...drop it or else".

When I can be bothered I might pick up a 5th heart, some baselisk tissue samples and then see if I can pull rank on a Cyclops.

Love this idea!

I read elsewhere that reducing your heat signature can make them ignore you, not sure if true, but how about combining that with holding Thargoid items?

I tried popping heat sinks from just before the thargoid started scanning me, so I was below 8% heat for the whole scan and through the whole reaction. No change.

I can confirm some details, When you first enter a non human signal source you will be scanned even if you go silent running at the start.

After the Thargoid ship has moved away you can switch to silent running and if you stay about 1km away from the Tharagoid ship even if it turns aggressive it wont attack you as presumably it can not see you at that distance.

The main issue is time when collecting samples as the research limpet takes a while to remove a sample. Bringing some probes, sensors, meta alloys or escape pods can slow them down, if you bring more than 5 a second Thargoid ship will jump in so watch out there.

When you say "turns aggressive" - do you mean 'is actively attacking' you, firing shots at you, or do you mean shown red lights and popped thargons?

Just think it's important to clarify that because I've had dozens of occasions where (for whatever reason) the Thargoid has gone all red Hulk, but just backing off is enough to prevent attack. The "red" stance is just a warning.

But if you mean the former - that after it starts attacking, going into silent running will stop it attacking, that's really interesting to know. It suggests they use a similar heat-bases targeting system to us.

Also very cool to get confirmation that the JJ-386 ship is almost certainly Jamesson :)

So - I guess we're looking for Beige worlds somewhere near the bubble-edge of the Pleiades, or any planet between (assuming he tried to get back...)

lol :D

I would like to point out that there's a Barnacle forrest is almost exactly in the middle between 12 Trianguli and HIP 17403. I am currently searching the area around the barnacle forrest to find systems with ammonia worlds. Jamesson must have had a clue where to find them and ammonia worlds are such a clue. However the scout is pretty far away... maybe we have to look even closer to the Pleiades nebula itself. Anyway... we now know its Jamesson, its a Cobra and he actually pulled the trigger.

I don't think the Barnacles were there during the war to be honest, but definitely worth a look :)

I think it's worth looking for the closest base to the bubble and assuming that's where he probably launched the attack, especially since we already know that the bases closest to the bubble are the most damaged (inactive ones).

Oh yeah! And I watched some of that bit too! lol

So tl;dr we knocked out their hyperdrives *and* killed millions of them.

No wonder they're angry :)

But are they angry? Do they even get angry? Or do they just think in terms of "useful to us", "dangerous to us", "insignificant to us"? We can't assign human emotions to them, can we?

It probably doesn't matter what they feel, or if they feel, though. If they consider us a problem, they will no doubt deal with it as they see fit. :)

The whole story is very fascinating. Now if there was only more we could do with Thargoids than shoot them...
