Star Citizen Discussions v7

Not to mention all the upcoming competition in the genre such as Dual Universe and more.

I think that's the elephant in the room alright. Not Dual Universe in particular, but competition in the genre. Some games are already out, others in development, new ones are sure to appear. And each additional delay erodes a little bit of novelty from SC as either gameplay ideas or graphical engine features get implemented somewhere else. Already, the screenshots are pretty but no longer as special as they might have been 3 years ago. What will it be like in 2/3 years when new graphics-focused games come out? I'm not sure how they'll get around that.

There are more than those missions, you have to pick up a box from the surface once or twice. By using "gameplay loops" I try to avoid people saying that half of celestial bodies that were supposed to be in 3.0 are no longer there for this release. So basically what you have said, but a little less accusatory (optional), and a bit more in-depth. For example, I don't know if any kind of bounty hunting is there or not. You could kill "wanted" people at least since the latter part of 2016, but if there's some cash to be gained after each kill, there's a bit of a gameplay loop there.

celestial bodies and the number thereof have nothing to do with gameplay loops, so I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at there.

They have precisely nothing in common, and that was my point. When I usually see the answers to question of what was cut from 3.0 compared to what was promised, people mention the reduced amount of celestial bodies, and this is a well known information.

And now for something completely unrelated to the above, CIG is only $5.5 million behind their last year funding, and there's a high chance of a SQ42 (cinematic demo) being shown, which should boost backer confidence. Looks like there will be an another record, unless you subscribe to the "funding tracker is faked" narrative.

I don't think it's gonna happen though. Biggest sale has happened already.

Do not forget refunds - probably not more than 10 % of this years funding, but anyway...

No more than 2%, IMO.

There are still two days left for this sale, and they have pulled in over one million in the first day of the "everything's available" part of it. If the trend continues, they will pull in additional 2 million by the end of it, and the holiday one should net at least $2 million.

They are "only" $5.5 million behind last year - after throwing everything plus the kitchen sink at their sales. They're getting less money for more effort while their development costs have risen.

As for S42, I'm sure we'll see something, but as I said before, the question is whether it will be actual gameplay, or yet another specially crafted specially created custom made demo level of the kind we've seen for the past several years and, while they look pretty, tell us nothing about the state of development or even show off the actual game. It's the kind of demo CR himself has a youtube video about that are used to "fool" publishers.

Even that's true, way they throw everything just to reach 2016 numbers...does not bode well. Also registered backers numbers are way down.

I can predict it will be similar demo to 2016 Citizencon.

Absolutely none of that has any relevance to the discussion, which was about what there is in the way of gameplay loops in 3.0, so I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make.

Aye the explosion thing "I know it is alpha..." the engines of the ship remain exactly where they were before the huge explosion, yet they are no longer seemingly connected to the hull? Surely they should've been spinning off into space?

Sure its alpha...a lot of work needed to implement all damage states, physics etc...imagine there are players on that ship..and they are adding new ships almost every month = a lot of money spend on ships NOT on fixing performance issues and bugs = Alpha forever ?!

Now please same with other commanders around :D You can see models switching, and wreck stays in place...but it sure is cool idea.

Yeah, screenshot is nice. That box carrying looks still funny to me though.

Another 4k video, le sigh. Although to be fair you can see where money went for this project.

Thanks Rolan.

It feels unreal and gamey, but I have to say, I wish ED would leave more visible cargo around from blowing up big traders :)

Also side note, this concept really shows how SC really don't care much about gameplay, as basically 'yeah, here's big ship, here's how you blow it up, ok, I guess you will sell this...game, what game? exploits? ganking? balance?"

Sure its alpha...a lot of work needed to implement all damage states, physics etc...imagine there are players on that ship..and they are adding new ships almost every month = a lot of money spend on ships NOT on fixing performance issues and bugs = Alpha forever ?!

It seems some backers wouldn't mind that. However, real world says no.
