Approx 200k cr (50hrs) gone in almost an instant

Crashed my viper twice. First with all hardpoints upgraded with cargo, second with just cargo. Getting the viper to slow down at 1k mph in space takes what seems to feel like a thousand years. Godamn it

Consider this, you're a massive object traveling (if not) at the speed of light. To cancel out your speed the solution is simple, reduce throttle and "curve" your trajectory.

In other words pull up, turn, then make a 360 around your destination (like vultures hunting) before leveling off and making the final approach. If you're going too fast do this a couple of times until you've bled enough speed. Try not to increase speed until you're very close, about 1200km or so.

Good luck.

I believe ive mastered the art of docking and speed control. What i havent mastered is self-control. So indeed, patience is a virtue.

it happens to us all, i got in my shiny new cobra after a day and a half of play only to get it stuck on the toast rack of the first station i tried to dock in, a hold full of cargo and only about 100 credits left so i was right back to square 2 (only moving on from square 1 as i had learned a valuable lesson)

When in supercruise this is how I avoid that...

1: Once you're closer than 150LY don't use 100% throttle.. reduce it to about 90%
2: LISTEN TO YOUR ENGINE! If it suddenly starts winding up higher and you didn't throttle up, throttle back immediately! Keep it at zero till your speed starts to drop, then set it to about 60% and see what happens.
3: If that doesn't start to drop the speed within a few seconds do a loop. 360 degrees... that'll slow you down. Set throttle to about 60% and carry on.
4: You need to get progressively slower as you get closer to y our destination... that's why there's a graph on the left side of your cockpit. Get the two sliders into the blue areas and press J and you'll drop out 20km from your target.

Seriously guys... if they wanted you to do supercruise at 100% throttle all the time they wouldn't have given you a throttle with more than 0% and 100% settings. Learn to use it.

Good tips but I don't think he crashed while in SC, more like at a station. Can one even crash at all while in SC?

I bought into the Beta yesterday.
I have started to get the hang of this, feels like supercruise is always trying to sabotage me.

The trading game feels so deliberate and slow paced (not that I didn't expect it), I think I might try the pirates life.

Don't think so. If you get to close to a planet or star it'll "emergency drop" into normal space... and I've neve even seen a station from within cruise. At significant fractions of light speed you'd blink and miss something so small.

.

just a quick correction, SC distances are measured in Ls (light seconds) and Km for the final 30,000km and not LY (Light Year)

I think the funnyest SC experience i've had so far is being interdicted half a second before i could hit the exit button (within 1000km) it dropped me out at 15-20 km from the station with no attackers in sight and no 'stand and deliver' com message - i'm guessing the NPC's got scared and ran away :D

That happened to me once too but the pirates where there and chased me a bit. Well they showed up on my scanner as usual and dropped some smack talk on the coms. I never hung around long enough to see how they were dealt with, I just beelined for pad 04 :)

I wont diminish the tragedy of the event, however, there needs to be some manner of 'back' for this that you can at least recover something.. last save, yesterday, what ever.

if I blow a 2 million ship that i spent 3 weeks on and can't get back to at least the 2 week point, I wont run the game again.

I have enough frustration in my life, this was supposed to be the entertainment.

Isn't insurance already in?

Yes insurance is in.

The most important lesson you can learn in ED (after patience) is don't fly what you can't insure. :)

Well I was doing some exploring and found 10 canisters of Gold. I picked them up, got back to the dock and damn well got scanned whilst on docking approach and got blown out of space. Lost my Hauler and about 41000 credits in gold.

Lucky I had enough credits to get my Hauler back.

I still reckon that finds should be legal gain.:S

Can you can take them to a different faction system or anarchy where they wouldn't be flagged as "dodgy".
