Um... Exodus?

I've been piddling about in the bubble since 2.4 dropped, not seen a single Thargoid within 300ly of Sol. In fact, I've only seen two Thargoids ever, both in the same instance. One time I went to Maia to do some engineering and decided completely randomly to visit one of the POIs, I think it was a megaship, dropped in and there they were, two Thargies hosing a megaship with some kind of green stuff that didn't seem to be doing much in the way of damage, just turning it green in patches. One of them came and scanned me. I was in a completely unarmed DBX, so I just watched. It then went back to what it was doing, as did I.

That's it for me and Thargoids so far, it's not that I don't want to interact with them, it's just I've got other priorities right now (I wanted to finish my buckyball courier, that's done now, and still, I don't feel an itch to go to Maia and 'help'). Because I have no motivation to do so. If I outfit a ship for Thargoids, it's useless for anything else, for one thing.

So I get a notification from ED Companion on Android that the CGs are finished and new ones have started and despite being titled in German for some reason, I was able to ascertain that the title was 'The Exodus to Colonia'. This has just added to my confusion...

1) Why would anyone leave the bubble? There are no Thargoids in the bubble and they haven't done anything particularly upsetting or scary anywhere that they ARE either.
2) Humans don't tend to run away, they tend to idiotically stand and fight until dead, but that aside... Colonia? Where I can't even buy a 5A FSD, where there are like 50 players, where they are 20kylies from anything useful...

I just don't get it. I'm not upset at FD, I'm not ranting or complaining. I'm just wondering in what context this makes sense. Help me out?

I just figured out what the problem is with the story in 2.4, in a nutshell. Nobody (in the game) seems to care.

I feel like the Thargoid story is only happening on Galnet and not in the game.

In WoW (I'm sorry to use it so often as an example, but it delivers MMO story in the same way that Elite needs to, and does it superbly), when something MAJOR happens in game, everywhere you go, everyone is talking about it, every NPC has a comment, new signs and newspapers appear, realted quests, everyone has a story; "Thargoids ate my baby, won't someone take vengeance!!?". The story is shoved in your face by characters that seem to have an agenda on the outcome.

I go around the bubble doing my usual things, and NOBODY, I MEAN NOBODY I meet has anything to say about Thargoids.

That's it! That's the whole issue! I'm not scared of them cos they haven't affected me OR ANYONE I CARE ABOUT. That's what you need to do Frontier, motivate us to hate them (if that's what you want us to do). Cos right now, they are over there in Maia, and I can even get my engineering done without even seeing one. There's no perceived danger, no investment.

I believe you have nailed it with the issue. They talk about exodus of people leaving the bubble to colonia, but I don't seem to see that in-game. Infact nobody (NPCs, factions etc) seem to care at all that the thargoids seem to be on their doorstep.

This is one of the biggest issues at the moment. Even Galnet is sparse on information.

There is aconvoy to colonia each year to deliver supplies. Has absolutely nothing to do with running away from thargoids.

And yeah, if you don't attack them, they will not attack you. Weird, huh?! The story is onlythere if you go looking for it, the galaxy is too big to have such an influence from the thargoid story line.

Yeah - Thargoids can be ignored. 'story' is via Galnet (powers saying 'nothing to worry about') and CG ("goin' to Colonia").

Hyperdiction by Thargoids happens almost to 100 Ly of Sol, but very, very rare (might be a bug). And they don't attack unless you have their goodies.

Or you can go to the Pleiades where .... they don't attack unless you have their goodies.

Only thing I can think is we're still in the 'thargoids search for something' phase of 'thargoids search for something, find it and freak out and try to kill everyone' - but it's been 2+ months now, and the 'story' is actually slowing down.

I've decided to head into deep space mapping systems as the story just isn't there - such a shame. If they want to do things this slow they should not build it up beforehand, not surprising everyone is so meh about things.

Edit: And there's a new Aegis space station called Exodus Point in the Pleiades - excited yet?

Exactly, so why an exodus? Not sure why you refer to the transport convoys, the cg clearly states people are running away from thargoids. I know how the game works, and I think folks complaining about CGs being the content are peeing into the wind, this is a design choice, but this is the first time I feel a cg makes almost no sense in the context of what has occurred so far.

I truly am excited about my combat capable buckyball courier, yep. It's flipping fantastic ;)

Exodus is #FakeNews

Nobody gives a damn, nobody is going anywhere. If anything people are returning to the Bubble because Thargoids are fun, not scary.

If Thargoids were actively plucking CMDRs out of Hyperspace in the bubble right now, I'm sure there would be a few threads about that, actually i would take the day off and make ton's of popcorn :)

Actually now that i think about that, It's exactly what should happen, it would create a LOT OF EMERGENT GAMEPLAY, Especially if getting away was made a bit harder.

Come on Thargoids humanity is daring YOU!!!!!!

That would be good, but what's missing is any evidence that anyone is scared. Everyone is going about their business as usual, no thargoid tales in the bubble, nobody s children have been abducted, nobody is paying for a sightseeing tour to 'see' a Thargoid (this is particularly conspicuous in its absence).

They do. But there's been probably about 20 reports total of that happening - I had it once a few weeks ago. And they just scan you and run away. Kinda like when they first introduced the Thargoid cutscene hyperdictions and then most found it impossible to even get hyperdicted - content hidden behind a RNG wall. (Or could be a bug, can never tell with FD)

Lots of Saud Kruger ships in NHSS actually - so someone is running (unsuccessful) tours

Its the invasion that never happened...why would anyone care about them when they dont appear to serve any other purpose other than to appease the pew pew players? And thats based on having to leave the game entirely just to find out relevant information about them which is just...laughable really considering Ive never done that in any game over a 3 decade period of time...not gonna start now either and strangely enough, the game is still playable without doing that...just without aliens.

I havent seen or looked at galnet in months...mostly just superfluous rubbish news of things that have already happened and bear no relevance to me whatsoever. Will it improve. Why yes it will allegedly...a year from now at least...whoopee break out the bunting lets have a year long party to celebrate, my cup floweth over and all that...

By all means, gimme a reason to care...thats whats missing...a reason. Im not gonna use my imagination...been a long time since I had to imagine my own reason to do something and in the time Ive been here, have found the game not deep enough to enjoy role play which I have enjoyed in the past. Again, most the relevant information cannot be gained from inside the game which brings us right back to a familiar problem.

It is what it is and frontier are the only ones who can do something about it...in the meantime, its just business as usual nothing to see here unless ye search through youtube and watch others play the game ^

I think it's a bone they're throwing to Colonia players to shoe-horn the sub-Battlestar plotline they'd been suggesting since the early days.

Apparently "NPCs" in the bubble are worried about Thargoids in the Pleiades. Apparently some "NPCs" want to flee, because they fear an invasion.

That's what the CG tells us - or tries to tell us.

Official sources are downplaying the threat. Normal citizens fear the Thargoids and want to get away from the bubble before it's to late. Majority doesn't care and think nothing bad will happen.
Business as usual.

I just had this mental image of undocking from jacques to see you and the old red aces waiting outside and seeing in the chatbox...'Hey verm long time no see...ye know what happens now right? Die cylon scum'

Ah the good old days ^

Was a teenager in the Middle East during both Gulf Wars, can remember the UK embassy giving us gas masks & full body suits against chemical attacks. Nobody cared, we carried on drinking and partying, think one or two Scuds landed off the coast of Bahrain... Kinda reminds me of the thargoid conflict.

Why would anyone in the bubble be scared? It’s not impacting on them yet. There’s no real records of the previous conflict, and very few people would remember any of it. All they’re seeing are occasional news reports of something happening much further away than most of them would ever travel. Some vague, contradictory and largely meaningless propoganda statements from the powers that be. Some will even think the whole thing is being made up by the powers that be as an attempt to distract people from their own shenanigans.

There’s nothing that they’re aware of to make them scared.

I just don't like the distance to Colonia, but more particularly, the scale of the galaxy being ever trivialized. In my opinion, Colonia should be for the people that actually want to go there, not some second bubble to hide from the Thargoids in, as if that were a thing in the first place.

I had a rather colorful thread about it some time ago, the exodus to Colonia having been on the lips of some since the Thargoids were first introduced in the game. Wrong incentive (if there even was one), in my opinion. If I want to go to Colonia, it's because I want to go to Colonia.

Here's the thread I mentioned. Just take it with a grain of two of salt or sugar as you might prefer – some of the comments on the video by ObsidianAnt that I reference set me off a bit. → https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...and-the-Thargoids-quot-–-Video-by-ObsidianAnt
