Thargoid Interactions

I'd love to find something for a cobra 4 to do v Thargoids, but even more I'd love to find a way to enter a USS and not alert the Thargoids (or any npc's for that matter) that I'm there - don't think that's possible, feels like it's "hard coded". ie as soon as you enter an instance whatever is spawned "reacts" to you and "knows" about you right away.

Don't understand why you care: you enter, they come over and attempt a scan (easy to avoid completion by boosting past), then they go off and do their thing - unless you are too close.

Reason I care is, that by nature I'm a sneaky beggar, I fear it's hard coded in the game but it would be nice to be able to stealth up to and around stuff.
As for the Cobra 4 -around 328m/s unengineered - which is ok - just underwhelming when compared to Mk3. I'll see what it's really capable of soon as I finally decided to do the requisite mining for Selene in one - so will prob engineer the nuts of it after I'm done (nice weapon placement I have to say).

We've been luring basilisks to a RES site to see what happens and it seems the thargoid and the NPC ships don't react to each other. We were flying in circles around the security ships so they get hit by the thargoid fire and even when getting direct hits they never turned hostile to the basilisk. Also the thargoid ignored all the NPC ships.

When taking them near a station they just wake out once you reach certain distance.

OK, so I got thinking about the whole "Attracting Thargoids with Meta-Alloys" thing, and not sure if anyone tried it, but I did just then and sure enough it worked...

You can also "summon" a thargoid by dumping a bunch of Thargoid Sensors (in this case, I dumped eight of them).

This leads me to think that you can attract Thargoids by dumping quantities of anything Thargoids would be interested in. In this case, I'd assume they would arrive for:
- Thargoid Links
- Thargoid Probes
- Thargoid Sensors
- Meta-Alloys
- Escape Pods
- Anything else Thargoids would normally scoop.

As a counterpoint, I dumped 15t of assorted Thargoid Technology Samples, Resin and Bio-matter, which Thargoids don't scoop (but do turn hostile for), and nothing arrived.

I've found in a threat 6 NHSS, if you scoop a Thargoid sensor, & even if you immediately dump it, a basilisk would turn up if their wasn't one. Doesn't work in threat 5 though.
If you dump enough MAs you can summon a 2nd Thargoid.

If you dump enough MAs you can summon a 2nd Thargoid.

That's what I'm saying. Dump enough TS's (and likely probes or links) and you can summon a 2nd Thargoid in the same way.

Am testing now with Escape Pods. And nope, escape pods don't work (I dumped 9 just then, thargoid scooped them up, and then went on it's way)

Something I did yesterday: Go to ammonia worlds (AW) close to Merope and enter NHSS2. Honk the TP and get shut down. Jump out of the system. Got 2 hyperdictions that way yesterday - out of 8 NHSS2 - so it doesn't guarantee a Hyperdiction, but it might increase the chances. Hyperdictions were when leaving Pleiades Sector IR-W d1-55 and Pleiades Sector LC-U b3-2, which have reasonable NHSS2 spawn rates when orbiting the AW.

Wilder speculation: I've also seen more hyperdictions when I've been DSS scanning systems, maybe it's just being close to the AW (rather than the TP interaction) that triggers the hyperdiction : Thargoids see you taking an interest in their world, they interdict to see if you stole anything (I didn't).

You didn't pick up the TPs? I know picking them up increases the chance of being hyperdicted, although for myself that was only the case in one (batch of) hyperdictions.

Mmm, stealing stuff?? More like:
Thargoid Thelma to Thargoid Louise
”beware of humans bearing mycoid, destroy on sight!” :D

I was testing the 'not picking them up' scenario mainly (especially as my ship had 0 cargo capacity). Later I tried a different ship and did pick up the TP one time - no CRCR : no Hyperdiction.

Edit: Not really putting this forward to we can trade anecdotes, more so others will be encourages to add more data. With LCU's plugin it's pretty easy to compare NHSS2 etc against Hyperdictions, so feel free to show where in the hyperdiction logs you had a run of hyperdictions by carrying TP :)

Ah ok, so not picking them up, interesting that you did get 2 hyperdictions then, always hard to know what causes them, that might well be another trigger then. I've scanned them & triggered an EMP a few times, so far, AFAIK, it didn't trigger a hyperdiction.
I don't see why anecdotes & data trading aren't possible :p

My string of hyperdictions were in 2.3, so long before the log was about unfortunately. But yeah I picked up a UA (as it was) from a threat 4 anomaly detected, and I was hyperdicted 4 damn times in a row!
Just a jump or 2 after picking the UA up! I wondered if it was bugged (I remember hearing others thought so on these occasions), so (IIRC) I logged out on the 3rd 1, got hyperdicted again so I dropped the UA, & finally I could jump without getting hyperdicted! lol. I think that was my 1st hyperdiction too (JFYI, I have videos of 3 out of 4 of them, & of finding the UA, not uploaded them though). Happened when trying to jump from HIP 17704 to Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-5, about 25 mins after I picked up the UA (TSen) from Arietis Sector YO-A B-3, if anyone's interested.

Is this a famous 4th petal marking?
Could not find it on other petals, I will pay more attention next time.

I just got my second encounter with one of them (the first time there was a pirate with a FGS in the same instance, who immediatly opened fire, so I had to get out of there). Here's footage of it:

As you can see its swarm indeed consists of 96 Thargons, it has six hearts and its color is an eye-catching red, but obviously it does not behave any different than the variants we already know. It just seemed to be a little more nervous about me being present. It turned on the red lights even before I came nearer than the usual 500m, however it calmed down again quickly when I retreated to about 550-600m. Also like with the other variants, it is completely safe to get close when it begins to retrieve its swarm before it jumps away.

Well, the new Medusa also calls for help if you drops more than 5 Meta-alloys. And also dont like if you fly around with deployed hardpoints, even if not a single weapon on board, only scanners... Almost rip me. Just thought I share the experience.

Hmm, odd, did you get within 500m of them?
I've flown around with hardpoints deployed (including non-Thargoid weapons) & haven't had them turn hostile. Although I did twice when I boosted past them & was beyond 500m, although I haven't been able to repeat that, also odd!

Methinks I understand what happened, after re watched the video. We know that if they picking up something and that get destroyed, they immediately going aggressive. The player ejected cargo has timed destruction. In the video on 1:53 you can see the Medusa picking up a Meta-alloy, that is visible on my radar. When that disappear, immediately switched to red the Cyclops holo and range meter, also the Medusa release the Kraken. I think that canister got timed out in front of him. I was sleepy and not payed much attention.
