Star Citizen Discussions v7

Conclusion - graphics guys have done their best work, it looks impressive, LOD work and streaming levels and stuff is done good. BUT key word here is "looks". However Item 2.0 is just pointless, nice radial menu with glass look would have worked perfectly. Camera swoops are vomit inducing. There's little humour or creativity, it all looks like taken from thousands of sci-fi influences and thrown together. Huge obsession with mocap. Huge, unnecessary obsession.

I know now if it comes out, I most likely won't play it. It does not look fun to me. Devs have put some impressive work, but some core decisions there are dumb, It is just an interactive movie at this point. If there's any gameplay? Why there's no even mention of gameplay?

...They've put a big pre alpha band on the top of the video and used the words "earlystage" many times... So I guess anybody expecting it in this decade is delusional...

If it's taken 5 years to achieve the heady heights of unstable, almost unplayable early alpha, then I guess we only have 15 or so years to wait.

For premium beta.

Hmm. I'll likely be dead by then, so consider me no longer interested.

I can't rep you, Lobby Lud, of the Westminster Gazette, so vrep it is +1

Yes. Proof if needed that Elite-Feet should be very low on the priority list. As in very very low.

It's a solo presentation of a WC like game. I'm sure FD will come with something interesting...
Look at the flight model... Doesn't have to be as bad...

There was a tech segment in the Citizencon thing a few months back that showed that they were dynamically adjusting the sequences to direct the eyes towards the player and perhaps adjust the head turn if they thought it was at a point where the npc would try to look at the player or just keep talking while doing something else.

It's a thing I noticed in my fleeting, buggy moments in the PTU - if you go into the 3rd person over the shoulder camera and walk past an NPC, the NPC will look you (the over the shoulder camera) in the eye, not your avatar some two or three feet ahead of you. Just another of those silly little details which breach the fourth wall.

In fact I believe FD can bring redemption to space legs. But yes, they aren't priority for very good reason. They are very hard to crack.

Hahahaha, ooops :)

No, no, you don't understand, Sumbsumption was supposed to be as lifelike as possible. It... I mean, guys... I think it went sentient. I think we're doomed.

So, i seemed to have watched "Wing Commander: The Motion Picture" in that stream . . .

and i'm okay with that.

I doubt the average gamer will be though.

If CIG are going for 90% walking around and flying through cool space stuff for 20 hours with 10% janky space/fps combat, then I think I will keep my 22euros in this game. I was thinking of going for a refund, but this did the trick. Gruff Mark Hamill is a bonus.

Hats off to the gfx guys. Super cool stuff

Sorry sleutelbos, but is this what they showed?

That really doesn't look great to me - it's stuttering every four or five seconds, and just check out the character animations and textures when they're not the main focus i.e. not dead centre to the player cam. And the hands (at 4.59 if you want an example)... admittedly I don't understand game development but still.

Doesn't look horrible, I'm ok with the graphics, however still need a lot of polishing, I'd buy it when released and see some reviews not done by the usual shill suspects.
What I probably never will do unless ED totally screw it up, is buying SC the MMO.

SQ42 could be a ok game to play, however i'm not hyped for it in any way or form....

It was everything you could expect from a Wing commander (spiritual) sequel IMO...

Apart from any kind of significant space combat which has always been kind of a selling point for me in space combat games.

It's definitely got the late-life Wing Commander's interminable cut scenes that you force yourself to sit through in case you miss the one line of relevant information, whilst every fibre of your being screams at you to click 'skip' so yeah, there's that.

Yeah same opinion. I got a refund last year and I'm quite sure I won't buy the mmo again.

But 40$ for Sq42, why not, it could be a ok game and I like the cast...

Well CR was not really involved in WC2 so exept WC 1 (for obvious reasons) WC games have always been about big cinematics with Mark Hamill and giant Cats... I don't think it would be that cultish without it... Space sequences have always been short and not that fun IMO... If it was not for the scenery cast and presentation, I think WC would have been just a basic space shooter...

Whooh, rarely have I been more excited for a lieutenant-corridor-walking-sim.... more than a little Half-Life-esque, aka 'Don't you have somewhere else to be Gordon?'

But... ...sorry but I fell asleep early on... ...did anything actually happen?

...and as for 'pre alpha wip (work in progress) gameplay'... after 5 years.................... really......................................................................?

Well, has any of you played the metal gear solid series? In those games the intro usually consist of one hour long of cutscenes and like 10 minutes of mostly walking gameplay.

The only difference is that Kojima's cutscenes are usually mind bogglingly interesting while croberts' cutscenes are sleep inducingly generic.

Only true for n°5.

Wait? You think 'being talked down by old veteran, but eventually earn his respect, get a manhug and a promotion' is generic?!
