Griffin constrictor and Asp Explorer all similarly good ships i would say objecitvely.

Because they unite good acceleration, good armor (one more one less) and good hyperspace range(one more one less again).
The cobra mk3 fits into that row of ships too. But its is the one with worst acceleration, but on the other hand it has the largest cargo space of all of these ships! So you can buy many shield units and at the same time be a good taxidriver (in anisotropics mod really lucrative!).So its useful if you wanna be versatile..

What im not so sure about yet is the question, if the mk3 is so large that it is easily and often hit! And if it just seems so to me or if the mk3 really evades enemy laser fire worse than other ships with better acceleration... but i think its really that way. thats an advantage of the faster ships..

Once I have enough money (^^) I could forego the mk3...
In normal FFE. As good weapons (quickly destructing weapons) are important in anisos mod and they take much space(or is it the same with original FFE), i think i have to stick with my mk3.

Well i remember playing elite2 and i believe FFE too always buying a 20 MW laser as basic equipment and shields(and so on) and always went great with it flying an aspor constrictor. Or was it the tiger trader ???

But Asp Constictor and Griffin have alltogether less space than a mk3 and i find a 10MW laser is important in anisos mod! But it takes much much space, 100 tons, and you can accomodate it best in the mk3, it has 180(or more?) Tons of space or so? And the others i believe around 130 or so...

Well, i had to tell, i was just starting to play that game over again ^^
and just now i was at the stage wondering which of the ships fits me best!

So if i told somethin everybody knew anyway, well. I shpuld say sorry . but.
Dont we all know everything anyway?^^

PS:
One of my friends while i was at uni in cambridge had a job designing the ships for frontier.
Aggy Finn.

I was so jealous of his job....

if thats true, i feel either you or that friend of yours is some kind of idol.. Im not so nerdy actually, but the imagination that i knew soneone personally who worked on frontier would freak me out..
considering how enthusiastic i was for frontier as a youngster...

And briefly to that panther Clipper. I agree to the general, though i must add that it can be indeed used as a warship. I remember me equipping it with dozens of shield units and a hull autorepair system and then trying to shoot the enemies. But they mainly crashed into the ship and didnt really threaten it ! It is a safe way of rising in rankings. If its fun is the other question...

PPS: Sorry, i mistook griffin carrier for harris fighter

Never mind that bucket of bolts; the Griffin is the ship, people!

As I'm not a FFE player I've had to look up the Griffin on-line, but I've found the Griffin and Panther are of similar size, have the same main and retro-thruster power, same number of missile pylons and gun mountings, (but that the Griffin's lower-turret doesn't work properly...?), yet the Griffin's Hyperspace ranges are less than the Panther, and it costs around 700,000 credits more than the Panther. So how is it better? Is it more "nimble"?

Thank god for that! I was starting to get lonely :)

Don't get me wrong, I flew the Panther for many years and an excellent investment it was too. The sole reason I prefer the Griffin is because it looks better. Not the best reason I know, but there you go

No I have to agree with that - aesthetics are a pretty big plus in my books.

I like the Panther because of its rotating thrusters/engines, going to external view and raising the landing gear is great.

So there!:D

Which is partly why I choose the Constrictor over the Asp. Looks better in my opinion...and a better name too.

(Though in reality it should be given the name of a deadly snake which is small to medium in size...constrictors are massive, aren't they? What would've been better is, I dunno, Mamba, (was there a ship called a Mamba in one of the games?), or Copperhead or Rattler or something like that.)

There certainly was a Mamba: Commonly used by pirates in the first Elite along with the Krait which was one of my fave small ships.

Very little mention of the Turners/Argents Quest, the ship which gives us the class 4 military drive with the 94lr range

Now thats a pretty ship.

BOA constrictors are pretty big as snakes go, yes.
But simply "constrictor" refers to a class of snake which kills its prey by suffocation. There are many types of snake which are "constrictors", both large and small.
It's a bit vague, as Elite ships go.

By the way, does anyone here fly Falcon (or similar craft like Osprey)? I consider small fighters too small to be practical, but they are fun to fly at low altitude and high speed. Additionally, Falcon looks quite cool.
