"This game is dead or it's going to die!!1"

wonder how long this thread will go on for - has the other recent one on the same topic run out of steam?

edit: just checked. appears to be going strong with 80+ pages of comments so far.

Folks, Elite for me has been on the go since 1984 across a wide range of different platforms. It didn't die for me in the last 33 years and I've seen nothing to indicate it wont be around for another 33 years. Even ,in the event of a worst case scenario, when FD wasn't releasing any new Elite game between Elite III and ED, the "fans found a way" to keep it alive, take from that what you will. To me at least, its more likely I won't be around in the next 33 years than the game! [where is it]

But, but, you didn't include stats for those who aren't playing ED.

When ED came out in 2014, the world population was 7.1 billion. In 2017, it increased to 7.6 billion. None of these new humans are playing ED. No, not one.

So, we've lost 500 million potential ED players in the last 3 years.

Stats don't lie. (But I might).

The only thing depressing there is that humans are mindlessly reproducing at such a rate... :(

I have 2 accounts, my son 1, none are on Steam, so how many more of us are there that don't use Steam? Stats, the politicians friend, as you can make them say what ever the hell you like and they still don't mean anything

In my eyes very much alive. you play the game the way you want, it's open with no end or linear path.

I hate games with linear paths forcing you down a route. If you don't collect x then y door will not open. If you get to y to early then you are stuffed.

Elite is great with a great community. Some people not happy because they not spoon fed etc

I love it, and think this year its going to get even better

like Engineers you mean

The only thread type to trump the "The game is dying" category is the "Up yours naysayers *insert random statistics*" category.

Response threads are inevitable. There are people (both posters and counter-posters) who aren't aware that "X is dying" threads are a staple of internet forums. People who like to yell at the sky for years until they're proved right by the mere passage of time are a popular feature in all human groups; it must be an effort vs validation equation. Their flipside are the people who must defend that which is either indefensible or just doesn't require defense. Internet groups about video games are particularly susceptible.

This topic (among a few others around here) is a carousel made of dead and abused animals. I'm just here for the cotton candy. I suggest to anyone not interested in watching people use the same numbers to justify polarized viewpoints for another 80 pages to rocketsnail on this topic and leave it to hardcore riders.

Is RocketSnail one of the new ships? Or is it the Cobra 4? :)

More importantly... Where is the cotton candy (though we call it candyfloss here :) )?

Those statistics clearly state a drop of 600 by peak player numbers compared to the beginning of the year. Following this trend Elite Dangerous will be dead in the water twenty years down the road.

We should be worried and panic over this immediate catastrophe.

Isn't sarcasm grand ......
