"This game is dead or it's going to die!!1"

It's a niche game - and it's quite good in that niche - as long as no one trys to make it mainstream it will be fine.
See EvE for the best example of this sort of thing succeeding (despite CCP) - see Star War Galaxies for a a text book example of how to mess it all up.

Yup Elite Dangerous is doomed!!
I give it about one more week untill the servers shut down.

I can't understand why people are still posting ED obituaries, it's like beating a dead horse that died two years ago.

Well I'm off again to fire up my Conda, still so many things I wanna do.

Jealous cig supporters. :p

A Reading from the Gospel of Steam, Book 9, Chapter 31, Verse 7:

"And Lo, the People Did Read from the Skewed and Incomplete Graphs, and some did rejoice, others lamented, and at least one was foolish enough to believe these to be both accurate and all-telling."

Mods, can we get a plain old "Thread Delete" here, please? These are weekly and worthless.

I don't see an end to this game any time soon, there is so much to be done and so much potential.
I think an award for best audio in a game should be handed to them.

But, but, you didn't include stats for those who aren't playing ED.

When ED came out in 2014, the world population was 7.1 billion. In 2017, it increased to 7.6 billion. None of these new humans are playing ED. No, not one.

So, we've lost 500 million potential ED players in the last 3 years.

Stats don't lie. (But I might).

99% of all stats are made up on the spot

Elite in one sentence: Great idea to make dreams come true, but it is a wave of disappointments caused by bizarre design decisions.

three game modes design (a way how it is done, i do not mind modes at all, but current implementation is worst as can be) and approved exploits like reloggo are main issue.
ZERO effort BEST profitable things are killing a pleasure of coming rich. Exploits like robigo with stacking missions, after that stacking skimmers and now stacking passengers missions through the relogo.
These things are damaging game. And one thing what required activity from a player - stacking massacres, where players was needed to be behind a screen and shoot NPC to earn money was nerfed...
Now player can stack passenger missions, then put a ship straight for 45 minutes (or 17 if using next killswitch exploit) then just dock and drop passengers. I am doing that and i am even not behind a screen. I am watching TV and my starship is stransporting a passengers....
SHAME

When i am looking at concepts and first newsletters i see a vision. Even how first ships and paintjobs was done - this is an art. For example Anaconda and visual damages.

After 'release' in 2015 a people lived a hope 'they will add something', game is new, it is long term project. Fine. I belived in that too.
Now i see every update and new part of game has been done by lowest effort.
- grindy RNG engineers. This is a TUNING of starships, everyone as a kid dreamed about that. A way how it was done is offending my dreams.
- Powerplay - one big mistake. I remember how Michael Brooks announced that. I was excited as 13th on first date. All PP gameplay is to sign to PP, wait 3 weeks, last day buy merits, get weapon, done.
- multicrew - FDev killed it before it started by making a decision about NOT using multicrew in Wing. And telepresence - a last nut to the grave.
- multiship - a drones instead of starships. One drone per ship. Big ships still are flying graves. They could be winged, two big ships with 4 players on each. Let imagine that space battles. A lot of small fighters from large ships as carriers. Not. Idea has been killed also before it born.
- Thargoid - no comment, opt in/out not engaging content. They are harmless to me. I am not feelint endanger by aliens species at all.

Every of above expansion sounds great by it name. But finally, an implementation by lowest effort is just sad.

What i still like?
I just like to fly in supercruise in my space ships over the icy rings of Jupiter, and i can do it with friends. I am loving that and i will always. There is no other game what can give me an access to such big (even empty, i like that emptyness, space is empty) world. I can fly and fly, and watch a wonders of galaxy. It will never bore me. Thats why i will never stop playing Elite.

Now, i have a hope i am wrong, and in that year FDev will develop and correct all above, or even part of things.

I think it's more the case the way ED was developed, they hit hurdles they simply couldn't overcome up to the present. For example, think about why they don't have multicrew with SRV. When you're in an SRV, it's like a different game mode outside the ship. Yes, the ship still can take damage, but it isn't the cockpit mode anymore. It looks like it would have taken a lot more development to have the cockpit/bridge mode exist for the crewmembers while the main pilot goes off in the SRV. Just not that simple. Even if a crew member went out in the SRV instead of the pilot, the interface screens would have to be changed similar to an SLF cockpit in multi-crew. Yes, more effort needs to be done, but imo, I think they put in a decent rather than a low effort in horizons. The worldspace of the whole galaxy is just too big at this point for open/mmo mode. It'll be interesting to see what they do with squadrons in Beyond to improve the mmo aspect, and anything else in 2018.

Question: what do you get when you compare those months for when the game has had increases in population and when the game was on sale?

When you can buy the game PLUS it's expansion for a mere £10 - it's no surprise that people will be willing to risk the price of 2 or 3 beverages of choice or a takeaway to try it - even just for the graphics and exploration.

"The game is alive and well HEE HEE!" - it's £10 for full content to date, and the next year is FREE
"The game has lots of people buying it still!!!" - it's £10 for full content to date, and the next year is FREE
"There's SO MANY new players joining ALL THE TIME - it's AMAZING!!!!" - it's £10 for full content to date, and the next year is FREE

it's £10 for full content to date, and the next year is FREE.

LESS than the cost of a cinema ticket.
LESS than the cost of 2 packets of cigarettes

However it's SUCH a shame that we can't show the other side of that coin - the one that shows how many people who have bought it, played it a bit, then put it down for something more engaging.

Such a shame, but INCREDIBLY convenient for the fanboys eh?

I'll be willing to bet that FDev has (or could access) the figures of how many accounts SOLD in total vs how many accounts ACTIVE in the last few months though.

Get THOSE figures then we'll talk.

Here's an exercise for all you "the game is growing" people - find the DDF, then go through a sample of say 100 posters and goto thier account pages and see the last time they were active.

I choose the DDF as they paid a LOT MORE than other backers for that priviledge and as such it can be assumed they had a higher than average desire to be involved in the games development and see the game succeed.

I know what you'll find before you even look - but don't take my word for it, look anyway.
