Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit

Didn't FDev say they were looking into this, around a year ago? We haven't heard any more on it from them.

At least you lot on PC are able to manually adjust this. You should try playing this on console with no add-ons, no API, no way of altering stuff like this. We HAVE to play the game as FDev intended, as there is no other alternative.

But if I eat my Greens, am I doing a disservice to the environment?

It's not just me then. Good, I don't feel so selfish now.

greens make no sense its like carrots are veg but they're "greens" its all curvy yellows to me,

(Bananas of course, oval yellows are lemons just for clarity, let start a petition)

Orange was deliberately chosen to be easy to read without straining your eyes after long periods of use. Personally I like it, because it's easy to read and doesn't strain my eyes. Other HUD configurations I've experimented with either weren't easy to read or strained my eyes. So I stick to orange.

The devs have posted a few times about the HUD rendering. Going from memory, the UI and other elements are already composited into the "final" image before the transformation matrix - defined in the XML file on PC - has a chance to effect it. Which is why in the past you would have weird smurf NPC avatars and black shield rings. To mitigate that the game now applies the transform's inverse matrix to everything else so that when the whole scene gets transformed the result isn't mangled. However as anyone who wasn't asleep during matrix theory class will appreciate, it's still possible to produce funky results.

I became fed up with the Orange eventually.
I recently changed mine (Courtesy of CMDR Sleutelbos) to a blue-y scheme along with increasing the FOV.

For exploration in particular I find this very much more relaxing on the eye and to be honest, whilst enemies might no longer show up in vivid red, they are a noticeably different colour and quite discernible.
I don't have any issues of blurriness either as alluded to in previous posts.

Matrix Red: 0.3,0.45,1
Matrix Green: 0.37,1,1
Matrix Blue: 1,0.3,0

FOV set to 75.

I'm personally hoping that HUD color changing is on FD's "to do" list of QOL improvements this year.

Can I play without it? Sure, but it would be nice to be able to change them in-game rather than manually editing a file outside of it.

I was joking about the Green Party when I said #eat my greens'. That's my problem; I assume people know what I mean.

If it would be any other colour people would complain about that one instead.

Not if they have a choice. I didn't mean replace the orange HUD with another permanent colour. I meant have a choice of colours that the user can choose without changing the RBG values in a config file and screwing up all the other colours in the process. If you like the orange then that's okay for you isn't it? What about people that don't like it? If it was a colour you don't like, wouldn't you like the choice to change it?

I feel uncomfortable with orange (I'm autistic, I react strangely to certain colours), and after much messing around, eventually settled on an All England Club-esque mix of purples and greens. All works well (for me), apart from the fact that everyone's face is now green.

But then, I'm in space. Maybe everyone should be green.

Absolutely. Even if they had 3/4 'stable' HUD colour configurations and then people could still fiddle with the graphics override if they so wished!

As somebody with dyslexia I like orange. It’s a good combination on what is mainly black to help reading.

Now the blue and red pad numbers are a different issue. If not for the golf ball I wouldn’t see them.

This rather reflects why I wish there was a proper option in game to use different colour schemes (hell, even if you had to pay for it, it'd be better than nothing). It's not just about whether or not orange looks pretty. It's an accessibility issue. It would be nice to be able to set up colours that best suit your own eyes and brain.

I wouldn't deny the fact that many don't like the orange or simply want to change it to be different but I like it.

Not only that but since I got VR and accidentally changed the HUD colours using DR Kai ED Profiler app I'll add that other settings were actually painful!

I'm "OK" with Orange. It's fine, as far as it goes. But I was really disappointed that the HUD colour did not change when I upgraded to a different manufacturer - just as car displays often have differing designs/colour-schemes depending on the manufacturer.

An Orange is not called an Orange because it is orange in colour. The colour orange is so called because it is the colour of an Orange.

Therefore a Lemon would not be called a yellow.

That is all.

I find the official HUD colour jarring, and I don't mean in a marmalade way.

I've tried setting HUD colours in the files, and whilst it felt better to begin with, the compromise with friend/foe colours and station portraits looking even more like playstation 1 graphics made me more annoyed.

Do people change the HUD colours just for a change, or do they find the Orange really grating (pun definitely intended, even though I just realised it) like I do?

Was there someone at FD who really likes orange, and thought it was such a nice colour that they should code it into the game in such a way that eliminates choice?

I know it's a juicy subject and you may want to quash my opinion.
I don't like the orange at all. I have a cool blue HUD. Wouldn't it be nice it was a built-in function to set the colors in settings?

I Can not stand the Orange must have a Green H.U.D.

<MatrixRed> 0.31, 0, 0 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> -2, 2, 0 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0, 0, 1 </MatrixBlue>

What gets me about the portraits is that the engineers look ok where as all CMDRs look bad no matter what colors you set the H.U.D. too
