Comparison of NPC Crew Skill Level and their Gender... Male Bias perhaps?

Ironic, since the sexism you convey in trying to shut down this thread demonstrates real life politics in this video game [sic].

Its particularly ironic when you consider how sci-fi has traditionally been one of the genres to discuss contemporary issues in a 'acceptable' manner. Old sci-fi was very progressive in many ways. It is even doubly ironic when you consider that the OP says that contemporary issues with sexism may be part of the game, and asks if that is true it should be removed.

Ignoring contemporary issues in sci-fi is not the same as removing them from it.

"When there's more than one person debating, it becomes politics. When they are of different genders, it all is sexist."

Reducing such debates and their points of view to gender standpoints happens on the right, left, and inbetween. But avoiding doing so, and having nuanced and open conversations is more the norm.

Outside gamer world.

The hostility of posts like this justify the need for gaming research into the diversity and ethics of online gamer communities.

Too many buzzwords to be taken seriously. "Diversity and ethics in a community"? Did you copy that from a Momentum party pamphlet?

High time this joke thread was closed.

Ah no, none of that crap's needed. That's like researching whether stones are evil or not.

It's pretty nonsensical how some think that creation of any type of art - videogame or otherwise - can somehow occur in a vacuum, and not be influenced by the culture of those who created it.

A comment like "Get your politics / gender critique / social issues out of my [art form]!" really just shows the lack of understanding of what's actually being discussed here, and a lack of understanding of how art is made.

It's like yelling "Get your chlorine molecules out of my table salt!". It's just utter nonsense.

In a way it's endearing (the OP). What is projected is what is deemed attractive.

And there we go, proof that the OP is doing nothing but trying to deliberatly cause tension and hostility.

Yeah, scary ideas are scary. Lets lock them up, for freedom's sake! Quick, lets report and censor. Maybe we'll even get a sticker that says:"Proud to be an obedient citizen." One can dream, no? :)

To quote myself from elsewhere; I think what you're seeing here is the result of there being a whole lot of men and boys out there who grew up on media and a culture that promised them a nice and comfortable patriarchy.

That's been starting to change, and so the world they find themselves in is always a little bit less worshipful of them then they were led to believe it would be, and that's making a lot of angry men and angry boys, who feel cheated out of "their future".

That, I think, is part of why there's so much anger around these issues. Gaming is one of the strongest stands of patriarchy in popular media (not that I think FD is a good example of a patriarchal game dev, however), one of the strongest stands of that "promised future", and so people get really angry when that's "attacked" as well.

I think that's part of why close scrutinization of media is important. Media has a huge role in teaching kids what to expect of adulthood. The better we can do in setting just expectations there, the less backlash I think we'll see against justice, and instead the more backlash we'll see against injustice.

Not true. I was just amused that this has blown out of all proportion!

That was clearly your intention by the responses you have made to me, and the way you carefully worded your original post.

And as other people in the thread, as expected, took up the sexism mantle, I think you know very well what SJW means and why it applies to you.

Maybe you'd like to do a report on how many women work at Frontier Development, and why we never see any in their livestreams.

I've lost count how many times I've wanted to rep you today but haven't been able to! Have 10 Virtual Reps to make up for it!

OP actually acknowledged criticism of her post, and even added my statistical rebuttal to the data. So much for an 'agenda'.

+1, or a few.

I liked this thread better when it was about statistics :(

I'm crap at math. I can tell you, logically, what should be able to be known, but I am really bad at telling you how to technically get there. So I adore it as well when it's all about cool statistics and the why's of it all. :D
