The mandatory "Buff the Chieftain" / "Nerf the Chieftain" thread

For the love of... Please think of the children when choosing a title for your threads!

Last week we had 'Buff the Beluga', today it's 'Buff the Chieftain'... I'm trying to discretely read the forums with a cup of tea while socialising with me family.

It looks great. I'll reserve judgement on FSD size and range until the beta pass(es) are done. An SLF option would have been nice but as most of my combat is in small to medium, fighter-less, ships it's not a deal-breaker. The stock version looks to have similar manoeuvrability to my Engineered FAS, better hardpoints, and it looks like a cross between the Raza and an Aliens Cheyenne dropship. What's not to love? I imagine it'll eventually sport some interesting ship kits, too, maybe enclosing those open wing sections.

I've been saving the pennies for a Cutter, but I might just hang on for a bit and see what the Chieftain has to offer. I love my FAS, but I fancy a change of scenery and the FDL never did it for me. The Chieftain might be my next PVE brawler of choice.

Probably would be too formidable with an SLF, even though I would have liked another ship capable of carrying one.

It was almost 20ly on a A/D rated ship without any armour. Best you can hope is 30ly but if you add military and 3 x 4 hull reinforcements I bet you'll get 25ly at most. New engineered FSD will be 50 at max without secondaries.

Integrity was around 560 if I remember well and the shield was max class 5. Let's hope for at least 4 utilities. A similarly equipped Asp has 30ly jump out of the box.

I never write off a new ships's max jump range until I actually have the ship in front of me in outfitting and can see what does what. With a G5 engineered shield generator, you wouldn't need to add all that armor for one thing. The Chieftain may respond very favorably to a +56% overspec 5A FSD. The Python certainly does.

I was told it was impossible to get an Anaconda to hit 70Ly in any configuration, but I did. ;)

Not a build I would normally use, or have used since, but it wasn't impossible.

Unless you have a long term need for a 725t capacity hauler, save your money regarding the Cutter. It sucks as a combat ship compared to the much superior in every way Corvette. I own both, so I am speaking from experience.

I would take a T-10 into a CZ before I would bother with the highly overrated Combat Cutter.

With the maneuverability, seems like the might be Lakon's answer to a buffed Vulture. Hopefully with less power issues. Vulture needs more engineering than I'm willing to do in order to make it a workable ship for my needs.

Needs more internal slots that aren't military.

Doubt I can make much of a pirate ship out of it currently. Especially as they just introduced yet ANOTHER type of limpet controller.

Its hard to say without a proper test flight but on paper I don't see any reason to get one outside of the looks. Might be a fun alternative for some combat though but was hoping this would have SLF and larger internal slots. But I wait to judge till I have a flight, if the turn rates are as good as suggested it might be a fun ship to fly.

imo, looking geared to up to be a decent combat ship. pirates in the mid-range are all too often fed dropship types. so maybe good to mix things up with chieftan pirate npcs. With g5 dirty engr'd thrusters it could approach aspx with g5 thrusters. that said, how about buffing the FDL to have more or bigger compartment for cargo..

Hm, it's a Lakon Combat Ship. Since the T10 already has a C6 Power Distributor, the Chieftain should naturally be nerfed to a C4 Power Dist xD

Jokes aside, the Chieftain seemed to drift alot during the few high-speed maneuvers they did and showed very poor deceleration qualities (very similar to a Cutter or T10) for its forward Thrusters.
Looked like a solid competition to the Federal DriftShip(tm) aka FDS to me. Should be fun to fly.

Exactly, I would rather like to see this ship commonly used around like a mid-range car it is, rather than being a superrare sight like the (hopefuly only currently) T10 and for example, Corvette.

Speaking of buffing the FDL with a bit more cargo, flying around a mandatory cargo-less FDL for a while ended in making me write up all this, which I think it was a fine idea that got buried down there somewhat... Perhaps you might wanna check.

In my opinion the Chieftain is a pure combat ship and nothing else.
To low on cargo holds to be a decent mission runner, at least one slot short of it being an explorer.
You could gather materials with it but you can do that with a sidewinder even.

The Chieftain sounds cool, looks cool and probably fights like a champ but that's it imho.
I was hoping for a real Python adversary but the Chieftain is far from that.

Doesn't mean I won't get one but I'm put off a bit by yet again a pew pew addition to the game just like the pew pew Type 9 that is called the Type 10.

I so incredibly hope the Krait will be different but judging by it's probable slf bay that will be another combat ship down the line.
