trading, takes forever what am i doing wrong?

i keep reading about how everyone has haulers etc and making money too easily.
i am making cash in the Sindwinder but it takes ages. when you only make 2k each run. Any pointers please?

I was trading food from Eranin to I Bootis then Crop Harvesters back probably about 3k round trip profit.

Get the hauler at 20 something k then it's 4x the capacity, I carried that on till I got the cobra which is 36 cargo.

Trading starts slow and builds very quickly. 2k is not bad, as you build more credits, it will open up the ability to buy more expensive items that have higher profits, 2-5k is about right for a sidewinder. As it only takes 23k to get a hauler (make sure you have much more than that because if you don't have the credits to purchase merchandise the hauler is worthless), you just increase the amount you are moving.

Ignore all the "its too easy" nonsense.

It just takes time.

To get going i would suggest trading an easy route such as Aulin to Chango or Assellus to Dahan.

Use Slopeys BPC tool to determine the best commodity to trade.

Once you have ground out about 28,000 you can go to Aulin and buy a hauler.

The Hauler will cost you about 23000 and you need 5000 to stick some cargo in and get grinding again.

The money starts to roll in a bit with 16 tons and some capital to play with.

The initial grind from sidey to hauler is the most painful, after that its a case of "the more money you have the more money you make".

Before you know it you will cruising around in a Space Cow making 250,000+ ON A SINGLE RUN :D

Enjoy the view while you are grinding ;)

Go to Aulin and look at the trade map and im sure you will find something that is more profitable. Also dont forget to watch the bulletin board to see if there is a light cargo trip available, most of the time that gives you around 5k. Good luck!

don't just trade in side, take light cargo missions to nearby systems AND trade with 3 tons, but trading is profitable only from 36++ cargo space..

you can go to any anarchy system and aim to unknown signal source there might be gold (can be sold at black market for around 5000 each), so if you don't mind flying around and running away from pirates then you can make like 20-60k/hour just by doing that in basic side :)

In your Sidey you want to look out for the delivery missions (the single item ones), where you are paid to transport a cargo to a destination, as these usually net you a decent profit.

You might also want to consider taking on the Combat missions at Eranin in order to gain some starting cash. Always choose the Eranin side missions (to kill feds) and not the other way round (EDF Sidewinders are much tougher and better armed for the same reward). The best site is the distress signal near Eranin2, supercrruise towards eranin2 until you see the distress signal source appear then select that as your target. Once you arrive you need to choose the Eranin side (on the right hand control panel under functions). Then happy hunting, you'll need to return to Azeban City to cash in your bounties after completing the mission.

My basic Trade runs from start with SideWinder

From starting station (first take off from Eranin - Azeban City Station)

Buy Grain, take it to I-Bootis (Chango Docks) sell it.

Now proper trade run starts. (Chango Docks = I-Bootis)(Aulin Enterprise = Aulin)

1)
Buy Clothes from Chango Docks, sell them to Aulin Enterprise
Buy Pesticides from Aulin Enterprise, sell them to Chango Docks
[Repeat until able to afford full cargo of next step]
2)
Buy Computer Components from Chango Docks, sell them to Aulin Enterprise
Buy Agri-Medicals from Aulin Enterprise, sell them to Chango Docks
[Repeat untill able to afford full cargo of next step]
3)
Buy Fish from Chango Docks, sell to Aulin Enterprise
Buy Terrain Enrichment from Aulin Enterprise, sell them to Chango Docks
[Repeat until able to afford the Hauler ship]
NOTE: leave enough credits left over to purchase step 2 cargo]

This helped me get to 40,000 credits and hauler ship within a day (yes I know there may be better routes but this was right off the bat for my trading start yesterday)

Hope this helps you and anyone else.

Best way to make money in a sidey is light cargo jobs on the bulletin board. A lot of them pay around 3000 for moving 1 ton and at worst will only take 2 or 3 jumps. You may well find that you don't need to refuel to make the second or third jump but if you want to dock at every stop just fill the remaining cargo space with something that will turn a profit where you're going to dock.

Allthough a very nice tool, im playing without it. It might be slower, but from my personal point of view i'd say its more fun figuring it out yourself using excel or pen & paper. It turns out to be a different kind of game. Remember it aint a race!

Well played mate, my thoughts exactly! I spent a good couple of hours just travelling from station to station before actually buying anything just writing down what each stations had in supply and what they needed and just made a basic route up based on my findings and when it worked out I was very proud of my efforts haha (despite them being "meh" to most others)

this route brought me 11m ;)
i was just too lazy to search for anything better and wanted to get used to lykon6 and later to lykon9, both ships are very fun to fly.

now i am getting used to viper, after lykon9 it feels like a bullet ;)

Don't forget Slopeys tool has a "local mode" option, basically you can use it to record data for each place you visit. A good middle ground that saves you typing it all out

True, allthough i favor the online play mode. I could be wrong, and misinterprented 'local mode', but i thought that was for offline mode only.

No local mode works in MP. All it does is pull your data, the non local mode pulls everyones data, giving you up to date prices even if you have never been to a system. With local mode you just get price updates when you visit the system.

Woah that's awesome! I also would like millions so i could have the Type-9 :p

Whats the Viper like then? does it have a good amount of cargo space?

I did pretty much this when Beta started and barring a couple of self-inflicted resets (not paying attention in FAoff) I did very well.
Floating around in a Lakon-6 with 2.5 million in the bank now.
I can almost smell my Anaconda.
:D
