Since "Beyond" is now apparently Elite Dangerous 3.0 what exactly am I getting for my LEP?

Yeah! They can complain later - whenever that is - when and if they get *something* if that something turns out to be not very good. They certainly have no business complaining now, when they're not getting *anything*.

I think it's great. One could even say that an LEP I bought three years ago, hasn't even been triggered yet.

This is one of those threads to keep an eye on if a dev drops by. Other than that, the drama is a bit stale and meaningless.

Those lifetime passes were a mistake. They probably scared off a lot of early players. It scared me off.
Yeah, I saw youtube videos of this game and was really interested, so I went to buy it and saw that there was an option that cost $180. I freaked out, and closed the window. Maybe there was a basic option available for $60, I don't remember. Nobody ever wants the basic option though, and knowing that it was so expensive to get the full game, I simply gave up. It wasn't until I learned that it was available on xbox for $30 or so that I picked it up. Now I understand.

But selling these LEPs created a caste of people who just think they're better than everyone else and that their constant whining and hating on the developers is warranted. I don't want any of you to end up with something that players like myself can't have because I like the content just as much as you do. I wish fDev would just give you all a free pass on cosmetics and call it even, because I'm so tired of hearing about what a bad investment you made.

From what I've seen, most LEP owners aren't complaining. Generally the opposite, actually.

Either way, I certainly don't want free cosmetics as some sort of silly payment toward my LEP. That isn't what I paid for. I'm just awaiting the future expansion content I already paid for. Yes, you'll have to buy it if you want it, but that's up to you. Unlike us, you didn't already pay for it, so you don't have the same sort of vested interest, which is fine.

Off topic I know, but imagine how star citizen is going to play it when (if) they ever release the full game for £40 and there's all those people that have paid thousands of pounds. It's going to be chaos.

I do get why LEP owners are frustrated, we know they'll get new features for no extra cost, but there's not even a hint as to what those might be, or when to expect them. Even if FD said "we're planning two sets of additional paid content in the next 12 months" whilst still vague at least it would be something.

Why do people think a reasonable enquiry is "paranoia" or needs to "calm down"? I am merely asking because I expected the beta to be for 2.5 and so when I see 3.0 I am left wondering if things have changed.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind them making these updates free (I have other accounts you see). I am just wondering why my £120 in 2015 (in addition to my base purchase) has only covered me for one update in over 2.5 years of a supposedly 10 year plan. So I would be interested to know what this years "paid content" is supposed to consist of.

The response is likely a reaction caused by the topic coming up on more than a few occasions, with more than a few posters engaging in some astounding hyperbole and accusations of foul play despite FDev's numerous reassurances otherwise, including a clear statement that a new paid expansion is going to drop before the end of Beyond.

Having said that, I'm kinda surprised Beyond is "3.0," since I had (perhaps in error) assumed full version numbers would be for paid expansions.

Maybe you should remember that those of us who back the kickstarter and pledged support by preordering content, including the LEP, and spent silly money on meaningless cosmetic items are the reasons you go to play the game for $30 on your console.

You're welcome.

I don't see why this should become another reason for factions and fights. The existence of free content for LEP-holders is a win/win situation.

-- The LEP-holders get new free stuff.
-- Everyone else gets, you know, more stuff -- which you'll end up buying anyway (Yeah, you'll be 30 bucks poorer, maybe you won't buy that other game you wanted to try)

So for ex. if FDev are considering making gas giant mining a DLC...by all means, do that!

People who paid the £85 or above into the kick starter (of which I'm one), got the LEP automatically and to be honest, when they announced that beyond was free for all Horizons owners (thus all LEPS as well) there was much excitement but I knew the LEP would become an issue for some people and was a little concerned. However two things occurred ;-

  1. Zac announced that there will be paid for DLC coming which LEP owners will come for free.
  2. There are at least two new big updates to come. i.e. Atmospheric Landings and Elite Feet (Space Legs).

Now when you look at it both Atmospheric Landings and Elite Feet are massive modules for the game. I don't see them being free updates like Beyond, so if they charge £40 for each (which was the original price for Horizons), then LEP owners are going to be on parity. (I.e Elite:Dangerous LEP - £120 = Horizons £40 + Atmos £40 + Space legs £40). Now it could be that the both these modules are what Zac alluded to but I doubt it due to the fact they're only reworking the airless planets in Beyond. So the way I look at it; LEP owners will be getting whatever Premium DLC that is coming, in addition to the other two modules, thus saving over the people who buy the modules.

Let's get Beyond chapter 1 out of the way first though

I'm not sure what you mean by parity, but I'm looking at 3 more paid expansions/seasons to "break even" in terms of cost per expansion from the 240 USD I've paid for the game so far, not including cosmetics. I wasn't a backer or anything like that. I got the game on Steam in early 2015 and the LEP later that year. I'm not sweating it though, as there aren't actually any guaranties about the number of paid expansions and the like. I'm just biding my time and looking forward to future content.

...

Edit:

Elite: Dangerous + Horizons was £40/$60 (USD) when Horizons came out. Horizons by itself as an expansion was 45 USD. So, maybe that's where some of the confusion is coming from.

What Phoenix said ^

I cant believe folks are getting on horses again about this, like Veruca Salt. Yes i too have a LTP and im happy. Even if nothing else comes (which is incredibly unlikely) i've more than had my monies worth.

Since "Beyond" is now apparently Elite Dangerous 3.0 what exactly am I getting for my LEP?

Now I don't know if this has been raised before but I remember them saying there would be stages of "updates" free of charge but that there would be new paid content post 2.4 so I was surprised to note that this beta is for v3.0 of Elite Dangerous. Therefore I am wondering exactly what we LEP purchasers are going to receive this "season / whatever" in return for our not inconsiderable (in my case anyway) outlay?

You are getting a cheese platter.

There will be paid for updates, FD says that almost on regular basis. Zac just confirmed that paid for DLC will come this year (or news about it, it is a bit mysteruous).

Beyond is free because a) *speculation* FD obviously wants move everybody to Horizons platform, which not only includes planets, Thargoids, etc., but also makes DirectX11.3 a mandatory requirement for graphics. That will unlock FD for doing much more with game visually b) they feel they owe us fleshing out base game as they work with next paid for dlc in parallel. In fact, that's how ED first season was treated in parallel with Horizons development.

I was wondering when this LEP paranoia would popup again...

Calm down, the world is not ending tomorrow.

It's a reasonable question. Four years in and only one return of the investment that's not close to the cost of the LEP.

I didn't pay for LEP. But I understand it.

Problem is, I get the general feeling that a general consensus is the game needed more love for what we have. And that's what we're getting. Which takes a lot of development resource.

It would hardly be right for FD to charge for that.

However, I'm pretty sure paid content is still being developed in parallel. But perhaps at a much slower rate than some would like.

Having said that, I'm kinda surprised Beyond is "3.0," since I had (perhaps in error) assumed full version numbers would be for paid expansions.

As I said, that was what prompted my question.

N.B - To those wanting to malign me: Please remember it was a question, not a complaint.

Sorry I was working from memory but I was under the impression that the LEP was £120 and that was on top of the original game of £40 so anything more than three Beyond priced expansions (£40 each) and LEPs would be saving money. The real winners are the guys who KickStarted at £85. They just need one more Horizons size upgrade to be better off than the someone who's bought all the seasons individually.

Heck, considering I upgraded to the DDF (£300) not long before they shut it down (still wishing I'd stayed at Alpha), I'll never get the same level of 'material value' as even the LEP people will get. However, I don't regret paying to Alpha level because of the experiences I've had in game since the aforementioned alpha have been so positive, it feels like I've got my value even at DDF level. But that's a personal thing, I'm only 1600 hours or so in.

:D
