When are new SRVs coming?

OOOH! OOOH! An SRV thread! I want a manned skimmer to reduce planetside VR nausea. Faster but harder to stop and maneuver( no breaks, so watch those cliff edges...) with just 1 ton cargo or even heck, skip the cargo altogether( still with ability to collect mats).

This. Other surface vehicles would be nice but for many VR players this is a necessity if we're to play on planet surfaces in VR.

So it has been a year since the launch of Horizons. We have many different ship launched fighters, where are the new SRVs?

I would like two see a couple of them. One big and heavy with a large cargo capacity. These would be useful for surface POI's and gathering the containers, as well as Thargoid sites!

Would also like to see maybe a faster one with MUCH improved handling. Something that would work well for some bucky ball racing! And also may be a preferable pick for running around settlements getting to those data points before the timer runs out.

Maybe one that is not as fast but has a much larger boost, so you can fly it farther. Or get more altitude in high G worlds.

Or just put modules in them and lets us customize (engineer) boost rate, capacitor, speed, cargo racks, etc....

2 years, actually.

You are using “when” as if it’s a given.

When Are new SRVs coming?

Given that we have to buy the SRV instead of it just coming with the hangar, it is heavily implied that the intent is to have multiple choices to put into the hangar.

Well, it would be in other titles...

When Horizons first came out, I'm almost positive I saw some concept art for a bunch of other SRV designs. Based on that I fully expected that we would have seen more than the single model we have by 2018.

It would be nice if they would respond to questions about this, rather than always blowing them off with a non-answer.

In a great surprise to nobody, i would like to redistribute goods currently in the wrong hands. Imagine being chased back to your ship by four jolly jacks. What fun!

I have been asking this since 2.1.

Also handling doesn't need to be improved. We just need more planets that are >=1G for better traction.

SRV's have "bad handling" because of the low gravity on the vast majority of the worlds we can land on.

I would like to see a cannon-based srv and participate in tank battles by doing missions with it (and maybe slap on some armour and some type of wheels with a lot of traction (lets call them tracks for now)). :D

[yesnod] This ought to be a no brainer. The largest, most lucrative f2p game on the planet features tanks. Tanks in space, with aerial support from spaceships the size of modern day missile cruisers ticks a whole lot of boxes for a whole lot of people. Stealthy and outrageously loud paintjobs would fly out of the store...

I'd be happier with one with a coring drill to take samples.

The potential for additional things for our srvs to do is enormous. If FD continue with their feedback sections and get interested in srvs again, we could see a tremendous number of new things to do dirt side.

More than different SRVs, I'd like to see some more options for things to do with the one we have.

I'd like the srvs to be able to do more of the things we already enjoy doing- pew pew against equivalent opposition, cool visuals and rewards for surveying to reward explorers, valuable stuff to mine in difficult to reach areas requiring a srv, possibly very small settlements without spaceports needing srvs to bring in trade goods. It shouldn't be too difficult to link some of those options together- the surveyor/explorer finding a rich seam of unobtanium in a place only accessible to a srv, protected by ne'er do wells in tanks/combat kitted srvs, with a nearby settlement that could really use what the bad guys have claimed for themselves after PCs start mining ops.
I'd like some customisation options and I'd like some different vehicle types- I'm not talking engineer levels, just a few modules and the big truck/fast buggy/tank proxy to stick them in.

At the mo' I only have a couple of hours in srvs. They're fun to drive, difficult to shoot from (at least with my key bindings) and don't carry much. The surface missions I've tried didn't really engage me, but the things I see at ground level and the potential for hooning around in a buggy way faster than my driving skills can safely keep up with makes me glad I've got the option in game. I think there's a lot of potential for the vehicles, without changing too much of the core game. If there are any easy wins dirtside that FD can work on I think they ought to consider doing it. Once we get our pretty visuals back- repeal the biege!- I'm likely to be driving a lot more. It'd be nice to have some gameplay options while I'm bouncing around...

You did not just ask for this did you?

A new and bigger SRV would be fun, make one with turrets which can be manned by NPC mercenaries which is hireble.

Well they were clearly promised to come over the course of horizons on more than one occasion by David Braben himself

what we were sold were multiple variants with different roles starting with SRVs similar to the ones we have and than over the course of a season different ones were supposed to come

So unless they are going to release new SRV types with the release of 3.0 we can put it on the ever expanding "yet another lie" list somewhere among the orrery map, settlements getting ever bigger during the course of horizons up to the size of cities, new planet types including those with active volcanism and ice volcanism (don`t even start on the little low poly campfires man), multicrew roles like an engineer and new very large trading ships

Source needed for "promised to come over the course of Horizons."

I too want more SRVs, but there is one problem to consider (that hopefully they have taken into account)

Size.

Whatever they create, it has to scale down to a size that will fit in the current SRV holding bay, just like how the Scarab collapses on itself. But the bigger it is, the less it can collapse down effectively.

Maybe someone can check the models and determine how much extra room the SRV bay has beyond the Scarab collapsed cube?
