About the New Ship Voice...

The other thing they added and just briefly skimmed over is the ability to RENAME your ship's Call Sign so that the traffic controllers will call you by something other than the first three letters of your account name.

I thought that was a rather big deal, but no one is talking about that on here so far. :S

It's something we've all wanted since ship names/registries were added, but it's a really minor "nice to have" feature that isn't really worth throwing a party over. We have bigger fish to fry right now, though it was something I noticed and appreciated.

I too am very much excited for this. Whether it reads out the first 3 characters or the entire ship ID, it's going to be awesome to be able to customize this.

I'm wondering if the controllers might be converted to the same engine as GalNet Audio, so that they can actually speak words instead of the pre-prepared Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta etc.

Wonder how many people went out on a Limb in BETA and said the UI would be a configurable option :p.

There would be more voices coming they said, and yeah I think you will buy them in the store if they are smart.

Galaudio is just a bad text to speech option, no fault of FD, all ttv just suck.

Yeah... they didn't specifically say you had to buy a name plate for your ship name to be visible either...

In fact, they didnt even specifically say name plates would be paid for at first.

They fixed that after the stink it caused but, well...

We'll have to see tomorrow, but I'm hoping Victor is included for free and then supplemental ones are sold in the store.

Obviously having all supplemental voices be free would be awesome, but I don't mind having them in the store to further support FD via those cosmetic items.

I don't think MAKE is the right word. I expect they may sell some of these since that other company has done a lot of celebrity voices for their own product.

But like anything else in the store, no one is twisting your arm to buy them. :)

Personally, I am quite happy with Verity and will likely continue to use her in my ships. I plan to use Victor for my SRVs. :) And that is plenty for me. Don't feel the need for any more than that.

The others would be tied into the stores sales and linked to the HCS Voiceattack packs.

That sounds (sorry about the pun) like a fair appraisal. Personally I have always been happy with the Verity voice; a well rounded, modulated and pitched British public schiool accent.

Even if voice packs were a "thing" there is no way I would ever have a voice with an American accent.
