Dove Enigma UA bombed, preventing completion of its voyage in time for the man it was named for.

Exactly. This is what I just don't get about all this outrage and angst. It's not like the ship isn't there anymore.

In the immortal words of Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull.... Ahhh... To be thick... as a brick.

The simple act of undermining an event of this kind is enough. Arm Chair Quarterbacking the details just makes you look incredibly out of touch and Tone Deaf.

The recipient of this memorial has posted in no uncertain terms that they are VERY UPSET by what has happened. That should have been enough for everyone. Instead, we get all this pontificating and belittling of those who are legitimately outraged that anyone in our community would do something like this.

Telling everyone who is upset that it is just a game... Despite this leaping out of the game into the real world of actual people. The guest of honor, actually dying.

"Apart from all that Mrs. Lincoln... How did you like the play?"

That is how I read all the comments making light of this.

I won't judge anyone. Wonkers be wonkers.

However, as they already said, FDev should properly investigate - if the mess was indeed result of exploit (and without "stretching it to fit the exploit jacket") - in this case full god power ahead, to revert the damage done.

If, instead, it was indeed due to use of totally normal gameplay mechanics, FDev should honestly admit that was due to their oversight, honestly apologise and be more vigilant for future events.
And yes, they deserve criticism in this case. Pros should be more careful with such important events. But only constructive well-deserved criticism - hostility is not warranted, we all human and we make mistakes.

I can't say right now what the reasons for the black market being present are. However, I don't believe any person deserves criticism and hostility, especially not directly targeted to them. Memorials such as this are a way of celebrating the community and it's something that team do with the very best intentions. Having such significant hostility only damages the ability for us to run more future initiatives like this. While I respect the fact that there are high emotions regarding this. I would always ask people to be considerate and respectful at all times.
Amen and amen. They make a kind gesture, memorialize you in your favorite game - it's a free gift. Then it comes with all sorts of demands and an expectation of constant maintenance for all of time. They're just going to stop doing it. And people calling for scrutiny and review, like they're going to have a board meeting about this. There's been less kerfuffle over the loss of the billion-dollar Zuma project than this video game asset being rendered partially incapacitated, yet still operational.

You would have thought that, by now, Black Markets would have learned Unknown Artefacts cause major damage to the equipment around them and would either stop purchasing them outright, or in small quantities with an identical amount of Meta Alloys.

Failing that, how about the Thargoids getting nasty towards ships carrying UAs. Once they get in range of such a vessel, they can, after 10 seconds, interface with the systems on the vessel, taking FULL control of it, disabling all manual controls (including Self Destruct!). If the person does the menu exit the next time they log in their ship has been destroyed, and they are back at a Station. If, however, the person stays with the ship it will, after a period of time, return control (say, the Thargoids systems cannot maintain their control for very long), but this length of time would be increased either by the amount of UAs on board, or the amount of exposure the vessel has had to UAs (so if the person does a lot of UA bombing it could be hours before they regain control!).

:D :D

AFAIK it's uncommon for Megaships to have a BM. Especially Research Vehicles. The Gnosis doesn't have one. Why put one on a Memorial ship?

I agree that this was a screwup.

But in Frontier's defense, I got the impression from Zack's recent comments that they didn't see this coming. I don't think any decent, caring person would. But just like in real life, there are plenty of scum bags in the world who do things the rest of us would never even consider. Even in a video game.

Nobody complained to FD that the Megaship had a Black Market till now... There's been plenty of time.

That's not justification. I learned today that black markets enable UA bombing. Whoever configured the services for the megaship ideally should have considered it, it's not like this was added before UA bombing was a thing. I think people are getting really nuts up in here over some pixels, and of course nobody should get personal with FD, I'm not justifying that either. Just saying, reporting it should never have been necessary.

Meself and me daughter lost someone very close to us when she was barely old enough to have a clear memory of what she looked like to cancer. As though mother nature and her sense of humour thought itd be funny to make it a genetic cancer that affects women only...my daughter is so far only missing about 14% of her right lung so far. Shes 15.

She got my autism and her mums cancer...cool thing to grow up knowing ye probably wont reach old age.

However...onwards and upwards. Reading through this thread has been a good reminder to me why I stopped using this forum, but Ill bite my tongue on what I could say to some only to say ye understand nothing until ye live with it and watch it take everything and everyone ye care about. The watching part is the worst...ye know its bad when ye aint prayed since ye were 6 but ye pray to God to just take them in the end...in the end, death is a mercy.

I dunno who did this thing...but its a sign of a very toxic element of players...a few of whom Im starting to see here and there on these forums recently. This place got boring, no sense of humour just salt salt moan moan...bored wandered off so forgive me if I admit to not knowing anything about this entire venture until now.

Tis a shame on this community to know players like that are still here...such an act, using legitimate game tactics or not, still constitutes the most toxic form of griefing there is. Imho, that should be an instant lifetime ban in any game ^

To be honest, you haven't helped them there. Either the blame is for adding it in the first place, or for not anticipating what would happen sooner or later, even given the distance. Games are a case of 1s and 0s, it would have been so easy to just prevent it, completely.

I don't know what to think now... Except I won't be helping. Won't be hindering either.

Just not getting involved at all.

Dove lost me when he told someone to kill themselves.

Don't care if you have cancer. Nobody has the right to say such a thing to anyone.

He's taken it too far.

I can’t imagine what he’s going through right now.

In a BGS context, selling *anything* to a Black Market harms the station owner. UAs harm them more, of course, but I expect the criminals who run the black market are not nice people and know exactly what they're doing.

I understand that Thargoid ships already do get pretty angry with you if you carry UAs near them and don't surrender them when asked.

Wow. As someone who came to this game because of press regarding very positive emergent gameplay (The Void Rescue) this is really sad. And, more than a little disheartening to someone who actively avoids most multiplayer games due to the possibility (probability) of negative game experiences caused by other players. I can't even fathom the kind of person who would do something like this. I only wish I was further along in the game that I had a ship that could make the trip to Colonia and had space for enough MA to be helpful.

To those CMDRs headed out to assist, good luck and, right on!

I am biting my tongue here all time, tryin to give some advise on the trip only. But thanks for saying this.

I'm the kind of person that would rather let someone highlight just how prejudice and insecure they really are than suppress their right to voice it.. This is "a truth", and I'm extremely understanding of FDevs position here.

That said, it is absolutely an example of just how crappy people can be.
I can only imagine how sad the loser that did this is, and just how helpless and impotent they must feel in their real lives. I only hope this can offer them that ounce of lol, that is so clearly lacking from their sorry excuse of an existence.

Gee gee dude.

Nobody expected there to be one, so likely nobody thought to look.

Yeah, OK.

I wasn't justifying anything, merely making a point.

No one is considering all the benefits that having a Black Market entails, especially as it's a research ship and virtually all normal systems have made Thargoid tissue samples illegal goods. Plus of course bringing the Onionhead for the Expedition party :)
