Dove Enigma UA bombed, preventing completion of its voyage in time for the man it was named for.

This was NOT a legitimate in-character act of aggression. There's nothing legitimate about this.

This is an obvious case of harassment: a real person dying of cancer. A real person. There are no in-game excuses for this. No in-character reason for it. They did it to troll a dying man and the community; they did it for the giggles and for the real-life infamy, to hurt people on a personal level.

It doesn't matter that the mechanics exist in the game, what matters is the INTENT. They did it on purpose to harm human beings, not video game characters.

It's low. It's despicable. No excuses. The trolls must be banned, period.
This.

But what will FDEV do? Absolutely nothing, just as they don't care about charity stream sniping or other similar antics. [down]

And it happens to EVERY event. Maybe 2 seconds of forethought would have prevented this whole thing.

I was in Colonia but have suicidewindered back to the bubble. I've got a T6 (best I can afford to lose to pirates) kitted out for buckyballing and am ready to harvest some meta-alloys.

Wrong on so many levels.

You're making it personal. If you get an asset in game for whatever reason; you know that this stuff can and often does happen. Get off your high horse and rather than keyboard warrioring; get to work resolving it.

Let's be honest here, If this makes the nationals the managers at FD would be over the moon, free advertising .. even bad press is good for a game.

And yes UA bombing is not going away because of a fringe event. It is a part of the game, which is kind of the point here.

Yes it was distasteful, but if it was done within the fair context of the game (I.e - not an expliot) it's fair game no matter how you look at it .. Did GTA take out hiring prostitutes, and then killing them to get your money back? ... nope.

FDev isn't Rockstar Games. Its other big seller is a game about amusement parks. A bad boy image isn't going to do it any good at all.

And when you get right down to it, Elite Dangerous isn't a game - it's a business. And what's bad for business goes. Fair or not doesn't matter one whit.

They approve and encourage it, or they would have done something by now. I guess it's all about the money, screw decency, they've already sold their souls for a new car.

And that's the right answer. We can fix it ourselves. We don't need fdev's magic wand and ban hammer to fix it.

But Elite is Daaaangerous!

LOL These bad devs stole all money and bought a car! And a yacht! To all of their relatives! What is this world coming to?

It seems some people need an "community event" command by a dev to know what to do now.

like a good few attacks and kills in the game. How many complaints have their been about being attacked for no reason but the "Lulz"

From the article that has recently been posted, nothing about the expedition has really changed, it's still just a trip to Colonia, just without the help of a Megaship (which will be fixed in no time) .. no banning needed.

Why would this cause a "bad boy Image"? .. I feel for the situation, but it's being taken too far .. it'll be fixed by tomorrow .. This is the definition of a "Mountain made out of a mole hill"

As a reminder for people who still don't get it :

Hey,

I just wanted to step in and leave a quick post.

I understand that players are upset by the actions that have been taken. It's important to know that we are also upset and do not condone the actions of people trying to tarnish a fantastic and worthwhile community event. However, I would also say that calling out members of the community team as not being bothered is also very unfair.

Paige was the person that took the concept and worked with development to try and support a fantastic community initiative. She is equally as invested in the success of this voyage as the hundreds of Commanders taking part.

I understand that emotions can run high when actions are taken in such a way. But please do understand that this and the many other memorials that exist throughout the galaxy are a way of Frontier and the team celebrating and supporting the community to give them a permanent in game reminder of their loved ones. We are very pleased to be able to add these memorials in game as we feel this small service is of great value and comfort to those who have lost friends or family.

I think that by trying to shine a light on this issue, you are misunderstanding the level of thought and consideration that goes into making memorials like this possible and the care that the whole team have for our community.

On this specific issue, as many people have mentioned, if the shut down has happened because a player has used legitimate game mechanic then we would be looking (and supporting) Commanders using in-game mechanics to reverse this.

We are currently investigating to ensure that this was indeed done through legitimate in game means and not an exploit as well as other comments made from the Community. We will let you know once we have finished investigating the issue. In the meantime, could I ask that we remain considered in our responses and please refrain from directly targeting any member of staff for a game related decision.

Many thanks,

Zac

I've lived in Seattle for 39 years. That is not common slang here. You're just making things up.

Not only that but how many live streams need to be sniped or how many community events need to be tampered with before people think to defend their events? It's like leaving your car unlocked with the windows down and acting outraged when it's stolen. Of course it was ua bombed. Who wouldn't guess that would happen. IT ALWAYS DOES, so defend your crap. Bring some ma's along and attack cmdrs hauling ua's. But this will go on deaf ears. It's going to happen to the next event and there will be another thread calling for fdev to magically fix things and ban people.

Please explain to me how to defend against UA bombers who are flying in Solo.

Completely agree on all points.

Well, we'll see. At least one poster in this thread has already said they've been in touch with contacts in the media. If I were an FDev manager I'd be praying right now for a major earthquake somewhere populous.

BTW, anyone think UA bombing will still be something people can do this time next week?

Come on mate, I think it's as weak as anything that someone went to all that effort to troll a charity event.
But as others have said, it's on those involved in the trip (not FDev) to prevent this from happening.

What kind of game would we be left with otherwise?

Great job organising the event, not so great job organising protection for the event.

How can you organize protection from an invisible force hiding in Solo? Oh right you can't which is what we've been saying all along but no one listens.
