That's the context (which you of course are wilfully ignoring) that makes this use of "legitimate" game mechanic despicable.
<sigh>, why do I even bother trying to explain this to you, you don't have any empathy in you, so you won't understand anyway.

You think it's despicable. It's part of the game and a legitimate way to contest an event.

Get over it.

Mate... I'll say it again.

Because of this. People are actively seeking him out... him... the cancer victim... and are trolling him... personally... directly... not in game... in real life... because of this event.

Because of this; he's drawing attention to his plight. People are donating money to charity for him.

This discussion is not about him; it's about the actions of olayers against an in game asset. If people are harassing him personally; that is an entirely separate matter

That guy is the cancer of this game and I hope he gets what is coming to him. Karma is a .

I'll probably see this entire post removed again and get banned now for saying a bad word, while complete psychopaths get free reign and are protected by FDev and their mods.

Excuse me?

Griefing is another word for harassment. What's been done could be potentially classed as that. There is a fine line. IMHO cases like this should be looked at on case by case basis.

Also IMHO - this one does class as harassment, considering the circumstances and FDEV should take an action against this.

They didn't (yet?) which is a shame.

Regardless, I think that throwing mud at each other serves nothing. That's why I offered a T9 full of MA's we've had stashed in our home system. That's why some of my guys are already on their way to Colonia hauling over 400 MA's in total, along with many other Commanders that are helping out to prevent this shameful act of what in my opinion is indeed griefing, and a griefing of the lowest kind.

I despise the people responsible for it.

While i am not completly agree with you, you are the guy who acualy doing something instead of whining. So, my respect goes to you. Get the stuff done, and get over it.

How can it be a separate matter when people are only reaching out to harass him specifically bec---

you know what... no... you get no more of my energy.

Yeah, don’t waste time talking to a wall. Dove has been vocal about how sad he is about the UA bombing, and that’s what matters in the end.

I’m booting up my rig now, so hopefully I’ll be leaving for Maia within the hour. I’m hoping to get on the road tonight and be there by tomorrow night. I’ll haul as many MAs as I can get.

What needs to happen is FDev need to shut this down. Immediately. Show their playerbase they have zero tolerance for harassment of cancer victims. There's no other option.

I get you are coming from a good place, and I respect that. But where does it end .. Cancer is not the only life threating disease, why not move to make sure that anyone with serious mental health issues can play with impunity? .. what if someone has something more serious than cancer? .. do we change the game to fit whatever illness people have?

Look I am sympathetic, I really am .. I have been there done that, lost people to all sorts .. this event is taking things too far and I am sorry but this is a game ... If you (and others) really want to do something, forget fixing the computer game ship and send some money to a cancer charity and really help .. your computer game stand makes no difference to anyone.

So using legitimate game mechanics is griefing now?

Yeah, I'd consider a lot of in game stuff harassment and griefing, killing a new player in a new ship is like running up and kicking over a childs sand castle. Pretty pathetic imo, but that doesn't mean it should be removed from the game, or "fixed" by the devs.

From the desk of my lovely better half, Mrs Goose4291

“I’m really sorry that this man had cancer. I can’t imagine what kind of hell he has had to suffer and what life holds for him. However. Here we go. I’m now going to be regarded as somewhat contentious. He is playing an online game with hundreds of thousands of players and he is still an active participant. Here’s the controversial part: why should his illness matter? If he hadn’t told you, you wouldn’t know. It doesn’t impact his game. It might impact his commitment to the game on a long term but at the same time why should people treat him differently?
What about the special provisions put in place by frontier you say? Well they did that (and very understanding of them too) and have made it clear that any issues can be dealt with via in game mechanics.
As I said before, I’m sorry this man has cancer and I really wish him all the best. But it’s still a multiplayer online game where people can do what they like within the game’s context.

I donate to PCF every year, and have on this event as well... I've already pushed this out to the media with some small traction.

All FDev had to do was restore the station and remove the black market.

There's "slippery slope" arguments, then there are people actively trying to harm someone dying from cancer under the banner of "emergent gameplay mechanics." FDev needs to show they are human and fix this. They can even file it under a "violation of ToS due to targeted harassment" if they want.

While I do not think it the case, could this be a PP ploy to get the big groups to use their reserve only to get smacked from behind?

Props to you and your group for your part in the solution.
