What do you like? Fxed or gimballed?

Gimballed, and on the Python and Anaconda, turrets.

There's a good video by Vindicator Jones explaining why - broadly, what you loose on per-shot hit-power, you make up for with hits per second. But then I'm not from the Top Gun flight school, so ymmv.

I said this about turrets a whole ago. I have an FDL with 4 of them. My soul is of course, damned.

I use both.

I'm a Big Fan of Advanced Plasma Accelerators which of course only come as Fixed. Beam Lasers, I prefer Gimballed because the tracking computer can keep the beams on the target for a lot longer than I could if they were fixed.

That frees me up to focus on my Plasma shots, while the Beams stay focused and hitting on the target in and out of my fixed reticle. (Beams on 1 and Plasma on 2)

On my Vette, I use a combination of Dual 4A Gimballed Beams, and an Overcharged Advanced Plasma with Rapid Fire/Plasma Slug experimental effects. The Slug mod allows me to refill the Plasma with the Vette's fuel, and thus you never run out of Plasma ammo. :)

The rest of that ship are various MC Turrets. The whole package works great for me.

I LIKE fixed.
I have to USE gimbaled.

I am simply not that good at keeping track with the opposing ship. Gimbaled weapons are not the weapon of choice but they are the weapon of necessity for me.

What ship are you using in combat most of the time? Larger ships provide a more stable and less twitchy platform for aiming with fixed weapons. If you have trouble getting up or staying up on your target, you can always try Engineering the fixed weapons for longer range.

Takes some practice but it is possible to be very effective with fixed weapons on a ship like an Anaconda, Corvette, and even a less stable platform for aiming like a Python.

I've been away for a loooong while.
Currently doing CG at LP 128-32. Boynty hunting. And I'm no fighter.
Using my cobra mk III , and some gimballed multicannons. Then I tried to fit fixed burst lasers... or was it pulse...
That was fun as hell! My aim isn't that bad what it used to. I use VR and X-55 Rhino. I was surprised how good my aim was.
I actually have no favourite weapon. I just like to switch between. But now that I can hit things.... :D ..ooh Rail...

A combination of both. Fixed for absolute control and some gimbals for when I’m off target. Seems to work.

It depends on:
ship - more manoeuvrable more likely fixed
weapon type - can't get the hang of fixed that require leading, so fixed on rails and sometimes lasers
what I'm doing - defensive : gimballed or turrets - offensive : more likely fixed if not leading.

I've tried fixed lasers at the CG in the Califonia nebula, and it was a lot of fun. I've bought an eagle down there and equipped it with them.

But I've noticed that even the fixed ones get a little 'help' by the ship's computer (?), as the crosshair went from alone the last milimeters.

Or am I wrong?

There is a small amount of gimbal on a fixed weapon, teeny comparatively, but it's there.

I normally like to use a Cobra MK III for bounty hunting (fast little ) but I still come back to my Asp Explorer often since it has more weapons on it. I like being able to switch between beams, guns, or both, along with missiles. The Asp is also the second most agile ship I have after the Cobra. Both of them can snap-roll in a heartbeat.

I do have an Anaconda (The Anubis) set up with two gimbaled beams on the sides and guns everywhere else. The reactor is overpowered so I can fire the beams for up to 22 seconds with 4 pips to weapons if needed. Still prefer to have the weapons track the target since I can never get the ship to turn fast enough.

BTW, I'm getting better at FA-OFF turns and rolls but still need practice with it.

Fixed and Gimballed for small and medium ships.
Gimballed and Turrets for large ships.

As a rule, I try to stick at least one "insta-kill" fixed weapon on every ship but I'm lazy and, unless I'm in a life and death fight (or just practicing my aim), I don't really bother with them.

I fly primarily fixed, but I'll use gimbals when the convergence is bad. Like for the Type 10, I run fixed on the central hardpoints, and gimbals on the wide hardpoints on the "wings."

I kind of hate the Clipper because of the hardpoint placement.

I hate the Clipper for combat period!

HP placement is too widely spaced to be effective, resulting in HORRIBLE weapons convergence.

Too bad because the ship is gorgeous. I keep one around just because I love the way it looks. :)

I like a bit of both. Depending on the ship and the weapon.

From the outset I purposefully put fixed guns on my Sidewinder and then Viper cos I knew the practice would come in handy later down the line. The Vulture I much preferred gimballed however as I could stay in tight behind the enemy ship much more easily. After that all my big ships had gimballed weapons. Nowadays my mediums - FAS/FDL - use a mixture. Mostly fixed.

Depends on what I'm shooting. For some things there are no options. Rails and Plasma are fixed. I happen to like rails and plasma, so I guess this means I like Fixed weapons... except...

Beams and cannons/multi cannons and other lasers are available in Gimble and even Turret Mounted versions, and on large ships these are a blessing. On small, fast ships, these can also be a benefit if you'd rather engage in precision flying and let the computer do the shooting. I like this too, so I also like Gimbled and Turret mounted weapons as well.

The Right Tool for the Right Job.

When it comes to a Clipper, it's all about Frags, followed by Missiles and Mines, this goes for almost anything with bad convergence imo, and even for the bigger ships. People don't wanna go fixed on a Cutter but with Frags Missiles and Mines, you can be devastating.
