Exploring Water Worlds - Dolphin, Orca, Beluga

"Aquatic space-faring races are the main users of this multi-purpose vessel, " - This does more than just suggest, this rather spells out that there are known aliens, other than Thargoids and their ilk out there. What are these "aquatic space-faring races"?

Old news. That's from the 1984 manual, which had every planet inhabited by aliens. This was initially explained away for Frontier Elite II, then retconned out of existence entirely

News Update: In 1984 I never heard of Elite, or Elite II - my first exposure was Elite: Dangerous circa Season 2.2. So all this "old news" is pretty New to me. Now I have seen both screen shots and video of people playing these games, and after looking at them, I can say, without a doubt, I wouldn't have wanted to play them back in 1984.

Dude, I wasn't trying to make it personal, just indicating that the information was out of date.

Bet you would have. Elite's wireframe graphics was groundbreaking stuff.

You can always download the original game for free from the store, PC and Mac versions are available I think. It might help you lighten up a bit. ;)

well im just saying the Scarab should loose a few letters and we should have a hanger to deploy a crab

make it so FD

You can't really use space travelling vessels as underwater vessels though due to the different sorts of pressure.

Space - vessels designed to keep the pressure inside.

Underwater - vessels designed to keep the pressure outside.

Fictional future ships are designed to do both ..... problem solved.

Every spaceship is able to submerge, resurfacing on the other hand...

Or the more likely approach would be that they have a crush depth depending on which ship it is.

I didn't take it personally, just saying, this is news to me, because I didn't play it, haven't played it, haven't looked into it, read about it - just saw some videos showing a bit of it and went "meh".

Back in 1984 I wasn't playing very many PC games. My PC usage was largely centered around the occasional BBS and a little bit of programming. Wasn't much of a gamer at all back then, and it wasn't until 1985 when the NES came out that I did much console gaming either.

I can, I know, it's free from the Frontier store, but it doesn't interest me - and I'm pretty light already. There's a lot of over-reacting here. Just said I didn't play it, or know that it existed.

Relax, we're all good here. I get it, some people have been all about everything Elite since 1984. I wasn't. I'm still not all "up to date" on things because it doesn't really change the experience for me to know ancient history that, as was pointed out, was later reconned into oblivion for whatever reason. Elite is still one of the best looking, fun fly-around-in-space games out there. It's got nearly everything I would ask for in a game of this sort, and a lot of room and capability for additional things I think would only further improve it.

Excelsior!

Every ship with a shield is able to survive an amount of depth. Shields are designed to withstand all kind of materia: Air, water, etc. Maybe, depends on the "mechanics" of the shield technology, a shield annihilate materia or just displaces/repels it. The latter would be better for submerging… otherwise the ocean gets empty and the atmosphere too…

Not so sure about that. We can scoop cans straight through a shield, limpets of all types ignore shields, plus we can fuel scoop with shields up. I wouldn't expect shields to be of any help at all against crushing pressure.

I.......

Well I did put the winking smiley there to show I was only teasing, apologies if you thought I was being "heavy".

No problem with that :
For the limpets, we modulate the secret shield frequencies, so that they can pass. And for the fuel scoop… hm, let me think… ah here it comes:
There will be a special shield configuration, that "drills" a hole into the shield, which lets pass a snorkel very tight through the shield for scooping fuel. For cans goes the same…
Quod erat demonstrandum!

Well there was a NES port, and it's said to be the best 8 bit version (I'd go with Elite-A personally, but that's an unofficial version, and in any case I've not played the NES one).

Well done. I didn't even see your hands waving.

I think the fuel scoop bleeds the energy from your shield as you close on the star and converts it to fuel.
Honestly if you think too hard then the weapons wouldn't work because they would be inside the shield.

Just think of it as being to advanced, in the physics realm , for our brains to comprehend.
