How to Pronounce Lakon?

Take the "Mazda" example, Americans pronounce it with a short initial "a" while Brits pronounce it with a long "a," that's exactly the same as what I'm talking about with "Lakon."

Well must depend on the brits and on the Mericans cause I am Merican/Canadian and pronounce it the same way as my Brit wife!

I would say it probably depends on which area you are from cause lets face it people from the southern part of the USA have fair different accents than peeps from the northern part of the USA and same in Britain.

Well since this isn't going away: there's something called the Northern Cities Shift that changes the short [a] in words like that, bathroom, and fact to be raised and quite different from anywhere else. I've heard it used in e.g. dealership commercials for Mazda from MI and other places, but it seems uncommon to use that same (that, fact) [a] for Mazda at all. The vowel is the same as in pause here (Canada) pretty well always.
