I think it does. As some of you know, I only fly a Cobra Mk III. Yet I currently have around 55 million credits spare. With nothing to spend them on. :(

Guys, I want to spend money, but I've nothing to spend it on. Save perhaps PowerPlay where I could buy cargo?

What do you think on the topic of money sinks?

I don't see logic in awarding every man and their dog an over-inflated amount of credits for no reason, and then removing them for no reason.

How about instead of credit sinks we just stop giving players a several mill for carting a few cans of poop around for five minutes?

^ This. Now we have the situation that many players are sitting on unbalanced amounts of wealth, and the likelyhood is that anything new added to the game will necessarily need to find some kind of new currency (e.g. you pay for your engineering mods with materials, not credits).

What worries me about players with billions of credits, is its potential to completely undermine the C&P system.

Do you only have 1 Cobra? If so buy 2 more Cobras, then set one up for exploration, one up for fighting and one for trading? Less messing about swapping modules when changing your game mission.

It is a reasonable solution. Perhaps I need to stop being so stubborn.

But you know what? It's a good idea. I'll be purchasing more Cobra vessels today. My current hull will be the exploration vessel, as she is already listed for DW2. :)

There are some really nice paint jobs for the Cobra IIIs in the store, too ;)

Maybe we should be allowed to pay for them with credits :D

Buy a DBS.

I know you love them deep down.

Depends.

If the money sink is optional, like renting a hangar or something for better storage or outfitting, etc, then that's fine.

But I don't want something daft like Eve's insurance system.

Vanity player build bases with shiny cosmetic stuff.

That would work for me :)

For now I'll keep buying ASPs and Anacondas.

I'm not sure a "credit sink" is either a solution to a non-existent "problem". How many credits anyone has has nearly no effect on anyone else's ability to engage in any activity. Sure, they can afford their rebuy. Yes, I suppose they could mission stack and mode-flip their way through hundreds of millions in Donation missions to swing the balance of power in your favorite system. But neither of these actually effects anyone's ability to play the game.

But at the same time, it would be nice to have things we could spend money on, other than ships, modules and factions. I'd be rather keen on seeing some ridiculously lavish megaship casinos myself. And I suppose if it ever came right down to it, a CG "Raise Funds for the Orphans of Thargoid Attacks", where the host faction simply asks people to make Credit donations, and award some neat cosmetic items rather than more credits.

Definitely not. I have 200m credits liquid atm, and a bn in assets to show for 2.5 years of play, I have never 'ground' for credits. Therefore, I don't want to be hindered for other players choosing to grind away their free hours making credits and accomplishing nothing in the wider game. Let them have 'too much' money and wonder what to do with it, that isn't my fault and I couldn't afford it if they suddenyl doubled rebuys or something as a credit sink.

If you're interested in Federation or Empire rank - if nothing else the Federation rank for the Sol permit is worth having - you could unload spare cash into Federation-aligned factions' donation missions as you come across them. Or Empire factions if that's your preference.

It wouldn't be quick but I take it you're here for the long haul.

Small expenses such as docking fees work if it can handle the case where a player has no money left.

Many big-ticket items which players may like to spend theyr megacredits on would result in real costs in terms of implementation and running the game - facilities and property beyond your ships. Something that is "free" to support from the POV of FD would be more likely to be implemented.

Perhaps the ability to donate cash to Minor Factions in return for reputation? There are advantages to being allied to factions you work with - something which seems overlooked at times.

I think the whole "players have too many credits" argument along with "the grind" is quite interesting. Getting the balance between giving long term players something to do and making things accessible to more casual players is a very fine balancing act.

For those that say ED is too generous with its credits... Well, I have put over 400 hours into this game. For reference that is twice the hours of anything else in my Steam library and over 4 times what I spend in most games. So, for me, this constitutes a HUGE investment of time. In any other game I have played that amount of time would have me at the pinnacle of achievement. In ED, I am currently a couple of hours away from earning the rank to buy a Corvette but don't quite have the money to fit it out and fly with the 3 or 4 rebuys I like to fly with. I would also like a T10. And a Chieftain (when it comes out). Also been hankering for a FGS... Anyway, my point is, that after 400 hours I am still having to scrimp and save for the ship I want (albeit the 2nd most expensive ship in the game). I am having to choose between the Vette and other ships. After 400 hours of gameplay?! This would suggest, to me at least, that the balance is certainly not way off!

Buying more ships just means spending more time engineering, and finding the materials, etc. Not actual gameplay.

Keep only a very few ships, set them up as you like, then just play the game.

I don't know about "money sinks", somehow that sounds like draining money just for the sake of it.
What i certainly would like are new entertaining and interesting things to spend credits on, yes.
And no, raising fuel costs, maintenance costs and ship prices are not it, those would indeed be mere "money sinks".

We wouldn't have needed a credit sink if FD just rolled back people's accounts exploited things and took a tougher stance against it. Now people who haven't exploited are at a big disadvantage with the C&P changes.
