Revive CQC - It's up to us players!

CQC is too easy. Remove gimballed weapons completely or introduce jitter like in the main game, make non hitscan weapons way more powerful, remove powerups or make them less powerful, make silent running actually silent and hide ship from radar and make it untargetable.

Then I might play it.

Imagine Blizzard put WoW Arena/PvP queue's outside the game and on the main menu? How many people would really bother with it? "Please stop playing our game whilst you wait to play Arena/PvP."

CQC wouldn't have a problem if it was accessible and allowed queuing from within the game; so until Frontier do that.. it'll likely remain dead. Which is a pity because it's actually a lot of fun.

Edit: Added "WoW' to content for clarity sake.

It goes a bit further than that, unfortunately. People don't just want CQC to be an option from within the game, they want to be able to import ship builds "as is" from the game, too. (Which, conversely is why they continue to use Open instead for this purpose instead) They really don't want "balanced" PvP, but a place to compete.

I'd agree that it would make the game (especially Open) better overall- but I doubt seriously it would improve the quality of Open's just because PvP'ers have an Arena to frequent. They'll continue to insist that Open was intended to be their "arena", after all. (log into Open, you consent to PvP, etc.)

hey, just been waiting and still are for a dm game to get startet. There are people joining and leaving the lobby, but we are never at least 4 peoples to get the round startet.

Beside friday nights, it seems impossible to find a match. I'm in central europe and you should think that there are at least
3 more players?

It irealy is shame leaving this fun game mode in such a rudimentary state... for nearly two years now...

What happened to the cqc tourney?
What was about a race mode?

Yeah patience... You are kidding me right? Gonna play Redout, until there are some improvments to the queing system and those emtpy promises you told us long ago.

...I just realized that CQC being mostly dead is just a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Or it could be that the long waiting times are because people simply don't want to play it, and they'd much rather play something else - be it Elite or another game entirely - or get the ironing done. An easy and quick fix would be to set loose MoM's Minions, and have selectable numbers/qualities of AI's available to make up the numbers.

I also think CQC would benefit from being integrated into the main game in some manner. E.g. have CQC games where Commanders can use their 'in-game' ships (engineering and all), and have a fight with any other same-minded Commander - no insurance/repair/rearm costs. Or perhaps have monies earned in CQC flow back into the main game, and make CQC rank mean something in the main game - or just flipping delete CSC Rank from the ED status panel - if it's not relevant why have it? Honestly sometimes FDev come across as being the dumbest sort of smart people.

The CQC idea (the original one : a full-fledged Simulator) wasn't bad.

And the potential of a true Simulator (of course incl. all types of Combat scenarios) and an attached League System would be huge.
But following the sad trend of minimalistic implementation we had in these days, it fell extremely short. It became a fully little Arcade Shooter straight from the 90's.
On top, its meaningless Arcade Rank entered the three Pilots Federation Ranks in the main Game - where it never belonged. Separate game, zero risk, pure fun using even different Mechanics that differ from the normal ELITE world.

Technically, one could still use the time in Beyond to massively flesh it out and thus revive it.

Requirements :
- remove Rank from right Panel, its a Simulator only
- supplement the existing Arcade mode with a true Simulator mode that's using standard Ships and Mechanics. No "PowerUps" or other Mario Cart-type arcade references.
- give official (League-qualified) Combat scenarios for 1v1/2v2/4v4/8v8 and XvX to Co-Op or PvP over objectives, allowing unranked or Rank Matches
- allow Players to create and store custom Scenarios to serve any Scenario they seek to create
- give full optional Simulator Telemetry for Ship and/or Equipment testing (create any Engineer built and benchmark any Details of it that you like)
- a few times per year, hold official League Matches (Small/Medium/Big and Custom/Free-for-all classes) and advertise them ahead; resulting footage can be used to advertise ELITE further

I guess that might warrant a renaming, whereas CQC technically can still reside inside the broader "Simulator" (try to figure out a cool name for it).

I like alot of this, the problem for me with CQC is the three scenarios are a bit limited. I would like to see scenarios where all the cmdrs are in the same spec ships so skill/luck are the deciding factors. Also perhaps a scenario where, cmdrs can use their own ships from the main game. I like the 1v1, 2v2 etc.. wing options aswell, it is truly shocking that FDev haven't done this from start. 1v1 there would always be a game on.

A galactic league and major tournaments /competition needs to be organized so the who concept becomes relevant and ties it into the main game.

Last three times i have logged on to CQC no other players where there, this needs to change.

Its fine as it is.. dead. I never understood why the rank appears on the right panel, since it is a different game.

CQC and Multicrew are the best parts of the game. No travel times or engineer grind. Yes, I support integrating that in the open-world MMO side game.

When you reach their higher ranks of CQC, the skilled players you get matched with know how to evade gimbals in several ways that make aiming in CQC much tougher than fixed weapons in the main game. Non hitscan weapons are plenty strong, as the high score is often a player who uses kinetics. As for full radar stealth, the LOS requirement for target lock makes this quite easy to achieve.

Ha sat in a DM queue right now and thought I'd browse the forum while I wait, this was top of the list. Xbox does get matches on Tuesday sometimes after 2100 UTC but other than that it's dead. Some player groups run CQC nights and if more groups did this then I think OP is right that we could revive CQC ourselves.

Yes, I'm all for an integration of CQC into the main universe, but make the rank completely independent. Something no one has mentioned before is a scenario like this: If someone decides to play in self-induced ironman mode he's effectively 'wiping' his commander frequently (on each death) even more so if he does this in Open. I'm not the best example here, my current ironman build is still alive, but you get the point. Currently this would also wipe my CQC score, something the ironman player most likely wouldn't want.

Like integrated racing into the main game (which some of us were discussing last week) I think it would be cool to integrate CQC into the main game.

1) Put a marker in the Gal map of which systems have CQC arenas and how many are currently playing in each

2) Put the arenas near stations, but inside a zone people can't drop into or fly through

3) Require contestants to dock with the station to signup and join a match if room is available.

4) Give the option to telepresence to a remote station if local arena is full or empty

5) Allow matches of two or more to start with join in progress. It's ok if small matches aren't ranked, just PLEASE don't make people wait in the lobby for 4 or more players!

6) Keep a list of top players for the galaxy, per rejoin, and per station

I would play CQC a lot more if they worked on the powerups. So many matches just turn into "guard the damage powerup, and that just isn't fun for me. Really, if they just removed that powerup entirely, I'd enjoy the game mode a lot more.
