I got censored!

I wanted to name my Cutter "Impulse Buy", but that got filtered. I'm stumped which part of that is offensive. Maybe insufficiently imperial? It's now the "Impulse Bask" which is apparently acceptable.

I couldn't tell you, but it's not the word "buy". I saw a Federal Corvette named "WHY DID I BUY THIS" at a station a while back.

On the subject of censorship, I wanted my forum name to be the same as my CMDR name, but the word r.a.b.b.i.t didn't make it through the filter. Hence Cruel_R. But it's ok to have the forum handle Ho Chi Minge, apparently.

Not that it's been bugging me FOR 3 YEARS.

I couldn't use this handle ("Manticore") which I've been using for decades in gaming because there is some NPC faction with the name (or some such). I wanted it to be my Cmdr name but it's restricted/protected (whatever) so I reverted to my alternate gaming handle "Pingmonster".

As for ships: I think FD should add "Shippy McShipface" to the filter blacklists..........

If you open a ticket and tell support they will uncensor the name for you. Happened to me as well. My exploring ship is named "Vagabond" which ended up "***abond". At least I was able to see why, but well... Vagabond _is_ a word. :D

My first thought was that it might be "buy", as a pre-emptive strike against in-game advertising for gold farmers, but Lucifera's post says that ain't so. I then looked up "ebu" on Urban Dictionary and kind of wish I hadn't. I don't know if that's why it's being blocked, but I can see no other possible reason unless it's a bug in the filter.

I'd love to get a look at the actual filter that FD are applying. It must read like the index to Roger's Profanisaurus.

Yeh my exploration ship the 'Magellanus,' named after the famous explorer, got censored because the last four letters. Hey FDEV you should probably censor the name of one of our planets in the Sol System, Uranus, because it is offensive too! Just silly.

you mean Magellan right?

or Fernão de Magalhães

PEGI 7. Just remember. PEGI 7. Oh and ESRB of 'Teen'. Frontier will do their best to accommodate; but PEGI 7 is essentially no bad words (but just beating the crap out of people is fine). I have no idea why Elite wasn't set to PEGI 13; as that would have been considerably more sane, as this allows mild profanity and slightly broader concept of violence.

Anyhoo. PEGI 7. Ya'll have to use them good words the lord has said to use, only. I have no idea how it's maintained the rating it has. PEGI 7 is really low for something like this.

because drugs and slaves and language is so pegi 7
*herpderpl*

When I put together a smuggling ship, I wanted to name it so it wouldn't stand out, and really would seem harmless.

So I went with "Totally Unsuspicious", which would have worked marvelously effective and unsuspicious I'm sure, but it got censored and the "T****** ***********S" really stands out and I get picked by the police all the time. :(

Took me a few moments to figure out the problem with that one, too.

FD really need to get their act together on this, and either edit the filter dictionary to be more sensible or program in some context. If the in-game filter was let loose on this forum -- or indeed any forum -- half of the words would disappear. On-demand whitelisting can't be their long-term strategy, surely? I'm tempted to start naming my ships to deliberately trip the filter, then flood Support with complaints. But that would be unfair on the Support guys who almost certainly don't set policy.

I've worked support jobs, so I can sympathize with not wanting to artificially inflate their workload, but surely they have performance metrics and analysis of the issues they get; that might actually be a legitimate way to push the issue to higher attention, assuming enough people get in on it to generate a big enough blip.

Are we sure it's not because of the pixel length of the name instead of censoring?

Can't say for sure but "UV-41M" is acceptable whereas "SV-41M" is apparently verboten.... even though the only differences are the "S" and the "M", which remain visible.

Anyway, the "V-41" part of the Ident will, presumably, be the same size in both cases.

Um, it's obvious. The Outer Planets Alliance is a known terrorist organization that is dangerous to the inner planets.

My Python, the "Dangus Explorer" was censored because danguSEXplorer, which is so dumb. Just put an optional naughty word filter option on if it's going to be this sensitive!

SV-41M is clearly leet speek for the aim bot SV_AIM.
Trying to promote hacking, ingame. I would have expected better from you, Stealthie. :D

I saw one ship censored i messaged him asking what it was, even he was suprised it was filtered. If remember right it was just his wifes name who had passed

Makes me wonder if my ship names are censored
