How to complete the Guardians Ruins mission, and find others to help get the final 7 codex.

Do you have to have the Ram Tar mission to do this? As I'm at SKAUDAI AM-B D14-138 where planet AB 7 A has three Guardian sites and as I'm travelling back to the bubble I thought I'd stop by and collect some data. However when I collect the artifacts they are all called the same "ANCIENT RELIC" and I don't get one of the 5 items to performing the scanning for the data gained from the pillars.

If I don't need the mission, what am I missing?

I've never done this mission as I've been out exploring and now headed home wards.

You need the mission :(

I'm heading back out there soon as I need to check some combos - had to come back tp Meene to get the mission as I am dumb (I knew I was going out to find ruins :) )

See I'm no expert, I can collect the artifacts and scan the Obelisks but I don't get any of the Results. So you where correct.

Yup - you get the data scans (which have no current use/value), but you cannot get the obelisk scans (worth 1MM each).

If you like to drive an SRV, it's probably still worth doing once. It does get to be a bit grindy, like so much of this game. The silver lining is that if you stop having fun, you can call it quits and cash in. There no huge bonus to entice you to continue, if you aren't having fun anymore.

Here's a tip: Try to explore the ruins in daylight; they are much harder to navigate at night.

The lore is actually pretty good too if you can go the distance and collect them all, although it's all available on a ton of web sites now anyway (see front page no doubt for Factablous' links). What use this lore may have in forthcoming updates is an open question though (I like to think there is more to it than just 'set-dressing' the Elite universe)...

I have a question regarding this mission:
I'm nearly done with the scans, and my ship's data storage is at max capacity/full. Do I need the obelisk data scans in order to get the full payout, or can i discard them in order to scan the remaining ones?

Discard, they are not needed for the mission.

Thanks a million :D Now, follow up question: Are they useful for anything good at all?

They were used for a couple of CG months ago, and they might be useful in creating upcoming thargoid encounters. But it's not like we don't know where to get more :)

Hey all
iam abit new in here but to do this What shops Will you say is Best to use

This is a very old thread - better use the 'Alien Ruins FAQ' linked in my sig (or Dognosh's guide that linked in there), or use the Canonn guide that is more up-to-date https://canonn.science/codex/ram-tahs-mission/ and talks about what you want in your ship.

As for shops - there are no shops on the route - take your own biscuits :)

Wow!
Having just finished the scans, all in open, hats off to everyone at Canonn, and everyone else that's found all these places, worked out the combos & made the maps.
Amazing stuff.
Reading all the messages has been really interesting, and... sad!
I've done my best to look for any other un-scanned landables, including travelling in economical mode quite a bit, but not found anything.
Maybe on the way back.
What's the range for seeing 'ancient ruins' ? 10Ls? or would it show with the LR detailed scan?
Now for the scary bit of trying to get back & dock in open (cos I always play open)
Just in time too, I'm almost out of biscuits. ;)
Cheers Cmdrs, & FDev. thankyou.

1000 ls, though you can see them from further by just pointing the ship without targeting. Thanks for the kind words :)

So, I guess there's no way to know if landables have been checked, as you can never know if an explorer was actually looking for ruins, or just a passing explorer, but I imagine the whole Synuefe / COL 173 areas have been fairly well explored by Guardian hunters, so scanning any 1st discovery landables that have been left behind seems to be sensible.
There was talk in one of the data messages about them living in domes, which presumably the round remnents in the ruins were the base of?

Is the "Puzzle" Still brute force?

Depends what you mean by 'still', 'puzzle' and 'brute force'

'still' - depends if you took part in the beta
'brute force' - patterns are recognised in the locations of combinations, but the combinations are known, so you don't have to brute force (though some have been recently, kudos to them)
