I'm more concerned if their firing discharge will match the color schemes I have chosen for my ships.
IRL a guass cannon is basically a more versatile but harder to actually create railgun. So I don't think it's going to be a frag variant.
.a railgun accelerates a conductive slug betwen two rails. the current flow throught the rails, shortcutted by the projectile, creates orthognal magnetic fields that repel each other.
non-conductive slugs can be accelerated by using sabot mechanics.
Gauss cannons, or "coil guns" are using alternating magnetic fields, generated infront and behind the projectile to accelerate said projectile (which has to be somehow magnetic for this)
the coil gun principle allows for the acceleration of a wider varriety of projectiles, since they just have to be magnetized.
i am still baffled how the current railguns in Elite work, with 3 rails. (and how the plasma slug works in that, still containing kinetic damage)
in therory, the PA's are coilguns
man, still a week to wait for the release!!!
I wonder what, from the tech brokers, and in the Aegis Back-catalogue, will be in Size 1
Can we Guardian Tech and Aegis Tech up a Sidewinder (and Federal Eagle Mk.II)
Check out this beauty! It's been many months since we saw the concept art for this and now the time has come. T-7 days.

Can't wait to try these out! In the video the Plasma Charger is turreted so I hope there will be a fixed version too.
And the Gauss Cannon? This sounds good..
Check it out in Beyond: Chapter one trailer
Shiny new guns. What more does one need to get excited?
all of the AX weapons have a enzyme that (I can only think to have been) derived from the mycoid virus, due to the amount of space required to hold the enzyme the weapon has less overall mass then conventional weppons, thus less penertration valueWorthless if they are more ‘gamey’, “only works against aliens because, you know, massive damage can work against aliens but not harm human ships at all yeah that makes sense” weapons.
Oh No!
Not another grind-fest to have the bestest weps. ;-)
.
You refer to the technical side, while Darty looked at the gameplay side and compared to to how gauss rifles work in Mechwarrior Online. So basically you both are right.
.
To better cover what Darty hinted at: the Mechwarrior Online gauss rifle just like EDs railgun has a chargeup time. But in ED you have to hold the trigger to charge it, then it fires when fully charged up. In MWO the first triggerpull starts charging the capacitators and you can let go of the trigger again. When the capacitors are fully charged, triggering the weapon again fires it. If you don't do that within a few seconds, the capacitors loose the charge and you have to start the chargeup again.
.
This indeed is a bit more versatile to use than EDs railgun, while a tiny bit of requiring extra code to handle the charged time and the second trigger pull.

Gauss Cannon?
Hehe, feels like good old MechWarrior II.
Huge gun, insane power draw, very slow firing rate - but darn fast projectile, very long Range and did seriously big holes
All that's still needed is a Neutron Blaster and an Ion Cannon then xD
At the rate we're going, we might as well add Death Rays, Black Hole Generators, and Stellar Converters too....![]()
