General / Off-Topic Netflix' Lost In Space Reboot....

Is due out April 13th, on Netflix, obviously!

Teaser doesn't show much, just the main cast, and some mods to the original 60s show. (That I've never watched)

But I'm excited, none the less!

Will be interesting to see if it's more entertaining than the 90s movie with Matt LeBlanc. I enjoyed that movie, despite its glaring plot holes. Lol

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
The idea of the show always seemed cool to me, although I must confess I have not watched any of the original and the movie from the 90s was bad.

Still I am looking forward to this one. :D

There's a good chance it will be good... but only if it doesn't follow the original show too closely. The original Lost in Space was not exactly a very good show.

The reason why I'm optimistic is because I remember the great job they made of revamping Battlestar Gallactica, when the original of that also suffered from not exactly being a very good show.

If you can find the time, check out just the first episode of the original. It was quite good, but the writing and characters greatly changed over the next few episodes.

For many years my self and pals have toasted each one in turn of the characters of Lost in Space. Many many blurry years! It's the best way to get well oiled!

To Zac!

Interesting. The original show was actually meant to be hard scifi instead of the campy family friendly thing it became. Will be interesting to see how they go.

*sigh* ... TV execs - "We need new ideas for a tv show" ... "Doesn't anyone have anything?" ... "Ok, what's not been done in a while?" ... "There hasn't been a Lost In Space film for a while, and the TV show was in the sixties" ... "GREAT IDEA!" ... "Uh, I have an original idea for a show" ... "Too late, we're going with a Lost In Space reboot"

If it's not a sequel and not a reboot, they can't think of anything.

Very curious how this will end up, I did watch some of the original TV show and pretty bad yet charming LeBlanc movie. I like the idea, hope they will make something entertaining.

Another re-booted, re-imagined, CGI enhanced remake of an old TV show. My god, I love sci-fi for it's vast scope and imagination, even the first season of the original Lost in Space but this is just going over ground already covered.
There are hundreds of thousands of great sci-fi stories out there that could be made into TV or movies. Let's try one of those for a change.

Says some one on a forum for a 'reboot'/ sequel/remake to a 80s game.

I take it you're referring to Elite Dangerous and not taking into consideration that I came to this forum before Elite Dangerous was a thing, and also have no idea whether I came to this forum for Frontier First Encounters, Frontier Elite II, the DD3D remakes, the original Elite game, Rollercoaster Tycoon III, The Outsider, Lostwinds or even the Wallace and Gromit games.

I agree partly. Yeah, it's true that Hollywood loves a good reboot because it minimizes risk. That said not all reboots are bad. Heck even lots of 'original' works are just rehashes of older works of entertainment. Also, Netflix has a history of taking chances on new things and some of their originals are actually inspired. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt for now and see how they handle this. As someone else said, the new Battlestar Galactica was a reboot that may have actually surpassed the original work in quality.

TL;DR - Let's just see what happens. :)

I found the original 60's series stupid fun, so will probably watch this as well. But I do suggest, if nobody has seen it, to watch Forbidden Planet. In my view, one of the best sci-fi films ever made and released in 1956. The special effects where superb for the time.

Let’s keep scraping the barrel until there’s nothing left.

Up next, Captain Scarlet - the gritty ultra real reimagining starring the wooden puppets Ryan Gosling and Keanu Reeves. They could shoe horn in a terrifying cgi Marilyn Monroe to really dump on the past.
