Request To Add Cockpit Overhead Light On/Off Switch (EXTREMELY DISTRACTING FOR VR)

+1

I wonder if this has something to do with the imperial chair being so BRIGHT! The godrays/rings on vive are quite distracting from it.

Better yet, give us a dimmer so we can set the amount of light we want :) color too.

Check the beta 3.0 patch notes.
Pretty sure I saw something about changing the VR to make the overhead lights less distracting.
I see that. Has anyone seen this in beta yet? The beta is over right? Did anyone get a chance to see what they mean by, "adjusted pilot illumination?????" I was really hoping to have a light "switch" so I could go back to having my dark cockpit like we had prior to 2.3. Not sure what Adjusted means.

I didn't try the beta but my guess is that they just moved/dimmed the light source, rather than making it switchable. I figure it would be an easier change.

I found the change subtle at best, almost unnoticeable in most situations.

This is still hugely annoying.

SHUT THE G LIGHTS OFF ALREADY.

Well that's very disappointing. I'll get a screenshot of it when 3.0 is released and place it on this thread with a comparison to the current lighting to show how subtle of a change it is. Hopefully they'll hear us and give us a toggle switch. That's all we're asking for. They added the light in 2.3, why is it hard to add a switch to turn it on and off? I wouldn't think that would be difficult. Again, I'm not a game developer, so maybe I'm wrong.

The overhead light is one thing, the main thing that is peeving me off, is all the little LED's and particularily the lights on the controlls etc.
I have somewhat adopted the technique to look high, just so I won't be able to see the virtual controllers.

I am not a developer either, but I think that set up internal switches .. it's like a new step in the design I suppose.. turning off the lights, opens the doors, it's more for later when the possibility of walking will be on the way.

I guess .. I do not have VR but I can understand the urgent need if it spoils the VR.

The problem I have is that the "Pilot Illumination" light didn't exist in 2.2. They added it in 2.3. Also, the fact that they "Adjusted it" according to the 3.0 beta patch release notes, this proves the light is modifiable. So, why not make a hotkey that when pressed, changes that light brightness value to =0 and when pressed again, =100 or whatever it's at now?

Anyone from Dev able to answer the question on whether or not we can have a hotkey that will turn the "Pilot Illumination" light that was introduced in 2.3, off/on? Is this something that would be possible?

it's not only in VR that the lights are annoying and distracting, In 2D and VR the Vulture's two canopy lights steal the focus of the Comms and Info displays, why should I have to ignore looking at a panel or area of the cockpit because of poor cockpit lighting design, and then there's the distraction of the lights during combat.

The Asp Explorer also has distracting lights, what a poor design of cockpit lighting by Lakon, it seems that the Lakon engineers have NEVER traveled the stars NEVER looked around at the beauty of the system and wondered, "WHY IS THE COCKPIT LIGHTING SO DISTRACTING, WHY CAN'T I VIEW AND ADMIRE THE STARS FROM A DARK COCKPIT". darn deskbound engineers who never go out to admire the view :)

I want to clarify this topic since it seems a few people have mentioned other cockpit lighting. This topic/change request, is for the "Pilot Illumination" lighting specifically. I personally don't mind the red "warning lights" on the canopy. This is a request to allow us players to turn the pilot illumination off. This lighting was turned on in 2.3 in order to see your new suit. Up until 2.3, everyone had the old black suit. Then they added holome in 2.3, and added pilot illumination lighting in the cockpit. In VR, this is very bright and distracting. See below a screenshot of 2.2, and 2.3 version of cockpit lighting.
