Should have just kept it the same and increased payouts to the same level as burning stations, we all would have had a bunch of high profit long range trucking destinations.
Payouts aren't excessive at burning stations, you are looking at around 5 million per run in a 700 tonne capacity T9 or Cutter. What are repair stations paying? Something like 200,000 credits per trip.
That's not a terrible idea. I've been doing occasional long-haul runs from the bubble in my Cutter for 160,000 credits a trip. Happy enough to do it as a public service, but I wouldn't have minded at all if it had been made worth my while.
But neither this nor any alternative good idea happened because Frontier put zero effort into developing these station repair missions:
the absurd figures for amounts of commodities required were apparently simply drawn out from somewhere unsanitary, hence the need for the current "balancing pass";
players were given no mechanism for tracking overall progress other than showing up at the station and reading Galnet - and even that mechanism was inadequately implemented and had to be fixed to show more exact percentages;
no mechanism for tracking an individual player's contribution - I had to resort to totting up sums from my figures in EDDI.
Ship, spoiling, ha'porth of tar.
