New COVAS voice pack on the store (so new voice packs are going to be store items then)

I suggest you all go for Eden -She thinks she's almost human and that Celeste is holding vital information on how Eden can become human.

She's got a great voice as well.

CS72.

Does anyone with the Celeste HCS pack know if some of the previous content has been removed so as to be included in the Covas thingie?

Just wondering if the HCS / F D arrangement means that the Covas offering of a "voicepack artist" detracts from the pre-existing HCS offering.

(P.S. Another vote for Eden as the best voicepack. )

I've never tried a voice pack before (HCS), and I'm curious now. Is it mainly relevant to voice attack commands, or is it worth getting even if I don't use a microphone? In other words, what do I get exactly with it?

Voice Attack + HCS voicepacks let you issue vocal orders to your computer : it can be command activation ("deploy weapons" will deploy hardpoints for instance) or random chat ("what is your name ?" will trigger an audio response, "My name is Celeste").

A voicepack without a microphone sounds kinda useless. You'll need a mic, Voice Attack and a Voice pack to use it properly.

You can also, using Voice Attack, edit the commands and chat to make extended command lines, or script a chat between your different HCS voice packs. I've been teaching myself how to edit and make the most of them, I made Archer and Orion have an argument after Archer said 'Punch It Chewie' to Orion as he gave the command for a jump just after an interdiction. Orion has a line moaning about not being a Wookie and there are lines that make fun of Star Trek that I used as a comeback, then had Celeste chipping in to chide them both...Astra is too aloof to get involved in such squabbles, hardly 'game essential' just added extras to fill my time and make me smile when I'm waiting to die from a broken canopy 20'000 light years from home. Once you open them up and have a look at all of the content its huge; there's a Galaxepedia, quotes from Stephen Hawking, you can ask about all the different trading items, get a detailed or less detailed description of each ship, there's background lore for each of the characters and just plain silly stuff. Obviously there's the commands they've created and the ones that you can create yourself, my defence protocol and attack protocol were both heavily scripted so that boosting, command acknowledgments, pip placement, hard points being retracted or enabled and jumping out of system are all undertaken in a second or two with the one of any number of voice commands I've chosen to use for that sequence.

It's just a shame I seem to have an issue getting the updated (3.0 ready) packs to work.

I've got Celeste from HCS and Celeste in game.

Currently I can't tell you how well they gel together in terms of potentially talking over one another, the commands they use or quite how similar they are vocally as I'm having issues importing the new Singularity pack into Voice Attack. However, having played today with Celeste as my ship's voice from Livery I think they may have adjusted the sound slightly to make it sound a little more computer-like. That's purely anecdotal evidence clearly but I'd be intrigued to hear them running alongside one another.

I did wonder if part of the agreement between HCS and FD was that there would be some level of change to keep a degree of originality....no idea.

Say what you want about micro transactions, but complete cockpit voiceover changes is not something standard, not sure I've ever seen something on that level in another game. for the work and cost associated I find $7 to be a paltry amount of money. They gave you Victor for free, if you want Celeste, pay for it.

Also voice packs from hcs aren't the same as these voice packs, if anything they work together no? One of the main reasons why I went with verity in hcs is because I wanted non voice and voice command responses to use the same person. If anything it makes me tempted to get Celeste from hcs + this, or am I missing something?

What voicepacks i would like:
- HAL9000 (obviously)
- Chewie/R2, those come with custom translation in the info/comms panel (R2 obviously has to be rude and will mock you from time to time)
- Morgan Freeman
- GladOs
and some more
It would be awesome if they would incorporate voice commands somehow into the game - real bummer cause I play on PS4 and it would add to immersion.
Also I really wish they would add "Jumping" after fsd countdown

But you can program the voice to respond to key presses only, without voice command, yes ?

Y'know I bought the new ship voice "Celeste" and its made me want the Celeste HCS voicepack to go with it now!

So its done HCS a favour and advertised the voice, I see this as win-win for HCS.

Now if you'll excuse me I seem to be having trouble stopping flying round stars just to hear "Fuels scooping complete!" ... [big grin]

Yes, I agree with you there. Makes me want the voice pack now. HCS will receive a boost in sales, I'm sure.

Where the hell is Celeste from?
I'm hearing more South African than French!

I'm eagerly awaiting the release of a South Wales female voice pack. That would make me very happy. :D

GLaDOS or HAL, hell yeah. The only worry is that they'd keep trying to kill you.

"God dammit Hal, turn the life support back on!"
"Sorry Dave, I can't do that."

There's only ONE thing I do NOT like about it being a cash store item: It reduces the likelyhood that we'll be able to roll our own voice packs...

And the voices they've done so far suck in my ears... Its like the "professional", soulless announcer crap you might hear at an Airport.

There should be at least one female voice, that's quiet and soft, like she just woke up in the morning and turned around to talk to you, just above a whisper.

Only as you're loosing shields and hull, should her announcements turn into low, hoarse wail :D

*soft whispering female voice* "Hey honey, we're penetrating normal space now. Hold on tight for supercruisin'"
"OHMYGOD! SHIELDS ARE DOWN! EJECTING MAIN COVAS MEMORY CORE! BYE, CMDR!"

NOT COOL FRONTIER

I will never buy one from you. You are deliberately trying to take business away from another company.
I wish I could say this is the first time you've done this, but it isn't.

NOT COOL FRONTIER.

I will be buying the voicepack(s) from Frontier directly, as the money will go to them and fund the on-going development costs of the game. I think that's pretty cool.

There's one game I know of that did it, more or less: Titanfall. There was originally only one AI voice for your Titans, but they started adding new ones some months after launch. Some were free and unlocked immediately, others you could unlock through the in-game black market (which used in-game currency earned from playing, no real-money microtransactions or even loot boxes). One thing I thought was cool was some of the voices were even in different languages; I think the devs recycled the default voices from other localizations of the game.

Here's some samples (Betty was the original, Lisa and Jeeves were the first two additions, and I think the rest were added with the black market update): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCAke-rmOkg

But for the record, I have no qualms about spending money on an extra voice or two for ED.
