The latest Guardian Base gameplay - Another rather "short term outcome"?

Isn't the new Guardian Base gameplay somewhat like the original Guardian Base gameplay, and the the Thargoid Base gameplay, and Generation ship gameplay etc etc. ie: Where it's basically gameplay potentially just giving a few hours of experience, before then being ticked as basically done and quite probably/possibly never done again?

I am worried how so much development effort is (repeatedly) put into what appears to be such short term outcomes :( A temporary novelty, rather than a perminent mechanic to levage over and over and build up upon?

eg: Who's done Generation ship gameplay recently? Who's visited a Thargoid base recently? In a few months who will be going to the new Guardian Bases (other than possibly through necessity to collect X).

The idea of a basic procedural system, with curated content on top is good - and there is nothing wrong with a temporary novelty, to keep things interesting.

No, the real problem here is that these things are coming along once every 6 months or so. I'm not expecting a content drop the size of 3.0 every week, but some new, interactive content to drive the whole galactic story forward about once 6 weeks would be a good starting point.

Seemed like reskinned content to me.

I'm not sure what to make of it. Really it feels like shifting focus from one area to another

Maybe it's more. Slow build up to something epic.
I hope?

Yeah, that's what's I've been telling myself for over a year now. I was hoping we'd have some devastating Thargoid incursion, and frantic weeks trying to hold them off, until, just at the last minute, a heroic effort would lead to just enough guardian tech to give us a *slight* edge, and the balance would slowly tip.

What did we get: 5 months of not so scarey Thargoids blowing up 20 odd Aegis stations no one every really gave a crap about anyway, and just as they get to the bubble Ram Tah shows up with his uber-Thargoid-slayers, and it seems like jobs done.

I just recently went and peeked damaged stations. Was pretty cool visually at least

Wait for the new alien race to come into game, you know the ones the guardians support and help "humon's" said in a quark voice ... its gotta be coming!!!!!

Absolutely, and some great game play in running rescue missions. Don't get me wrong - what we get is great. FDev just need to pick up the cadence, and maybe be a bit bolder with the storyline too.

Edit: And get us more invested in the story. I feel like a spectator, and I so dont want to be.

Put some genuine loss in game. Its gonna upset people when systems start getting popped but man would it be cool. CGs to push goids out of areas and if we fail we lose a system... Fun!

Probably won't happen. Blew me away when people wanted goids to be "opt in"

If you don't care, doesn't mean other players don't. Stop generalizing your own feelings. Leave if you feel it is disappointing for you.

Pretty much like any other game with unique gameplay elements. You don't want to play the witcher doing exactly the same mission again and again. Luckily there are other things you can do if you wish to do them. The choice is yours.

What an utterly idiotic response. I do care. I'm expressing an opinion because I care. I'm clearly expression my opinion (as in I said "I was hoping..."). I didn't generalize anything. This whole "if you don't like it leave" attitude has got to stop - this is supposed to be a place to come and discuss what the game - what we like, and what we don't like.

While true, it does mean that over time the total number of 'custom content' becomes quite interesting, especially from the perspective of new players.

That's what you get with a narrated dungeon master style of creation. Personally, I'd rather see dev time put into further QOL improvements and threat generation system which is constant but variable based, to give the Thargoids the possibility of creating their own path. currently though.................well................ fairly disappointing. I'll come back next year.

Absolutely. For what it is worth, FD repeatedly stated that they want you to say what you do and don't like.

Indeed, they want all of the feedback. But people should try to remember to do so respectfully and remember Frontier isn't obligated to agree with them.

Personally, I love 3.0 so far. Especially since I've actually played it. There's a huge difference between thinking about how fun something is or will be and actually doing it. People should stop thinking so hard about if something is fun and just feel for themselves. Too many times I have convinced myself I wouldn't have fun on a game, but when I play it I forget those thoughts.

That's a fair point. But let's put it in context?

Let's consider generation ships. What percentage of players have even visited one. What oercenrage of players have had more than an hour of gameplay out of them?

And Thargoid bases now?

I know what you mean by your point though and there is some truth to it.

I haven't visited one, tbh. I get where you're coming from.
