Guardian Obelisk Pictograms - Confirmed

Same problem here. I was at COL (the one from the mission) with getting the mission before and i got no message or log from Ram Tah at the Guardian site. Then i went to one of the two ancient ruins and after just scanning one obelisk ive got a message. The fact the ruin is so huge, i didnt want to search after the relics, so i went back to the Guardian site and again no log.

Now im heading to HD63154, lets see if i have more luck.

BTW. Is there something i have to consider with these alpha beta stuff and where do you get the specifications of the obelisks like, R10 etc?

I've almost completed the "decoding ancient ruins" mission for the second time however it's damn near impossible as I think it's now bugged. All the known obelisks I have tried and tested previously for Culture 7 using one Totem "To" to scan have given me nothing. The pictogram now calls for what looks like two Orbs but when I use that combo it gives me the incorrect combo message. So frustrating!

Planets I have tried and failed scanning for Culture 7 scan are:
COL 173 SECTOR UG-B C14-0, C1, -24.9349, -101.7066 OBELISK E10
COL 173 SECTOR KY-Q D5-47, 9D, -10.8195, -89.8905 OBELISK R08
SYNUEFE ZL-J D10-109, E3, -26.653, -148.425, OBELISK K26
HIP 39768, A14F, 7.0924, 170.2272, OBELSIK P27

Ignore the pictogram and scan the obelisk with an Orb+Totem.

According to the Canonn, this is the current, most complete list of pictograms and meanings:

'scuse me everybody, what do you all mean when you say "scan the obelisk with..."? Is having those in your SRV's cargo bay enough or something else is required?

I tried scanning some obelisks with the SRV's Data Link Scanner (while having those items in the cargo bay) but nothing changed. Am i missing something?

Yes, you just need the correct two items in your SRV cargo when you perform the scan. If it's not working, they are the wrong items (although some are possibly bugged, TIL from reading this thread)

Argh, I had a feeling it might be that - can you get tissue samples without fully engaging?
I've no experience with the AX equipment to date - is that what the Research Limpet does?

I would also like to know this, but I suspect you have to get your hands dirty.

My research ship is a re-purposed exploration vessel and it's paper thin :/

Hey, thanks for the confirmation. Well, i tried that in a couple of obelisks without getting any "error" messages, just a "type alpha data " or "type beta data" message. I had also performed such scans (without the cargo in my SRV) even before activating the "Ram Tah" mission, and the messages i saw were the same. So, i guess there's no way to know for sure whether the scan was successful?

When your scan was successful you get a mission critical message, with a title: "Decoded ancient "category" data". Category is where you will see what type of data you have scanned, so lets say its cultural data. Then you open the message and it will state which one it is: "Decoded ancient data cultural - Research 10/20" so in this case its Cultural10, that you have successfully scanned.

I have been doing this mission for the past couple of days and a ton of guides out there are wrong now, im guessing w the version changes some of the obelisks went offline, and some of them disappeared altogether (i double checked my coords, and im missing complete fields of them from individual sites...) so this made completing the mission all the more frustrating... But I guess I shouldn't complain, I still mainly followed a guide, written by people who had no guides to follow....

You should get a message from Ram Tah with info about Guardians for each successful scan.

My srv just lost all power and life support while listening to a log about the guardian's AI taking over !
Anyone else had this?

The srv still has zero power after docking with my ship.

Ok it looks like it was fuel false alarm .
Thing is I was only five mins into a srv run since I'd left a station.
Refuelling through synthesis has fixed it though .

There seem to be a few oddities now. For instance, I was in an alpha ruin site at a section of monoliths giving Language data. One of the monoliths had the pictographs of Orb Orb, but I happened to have a Tablet Relic in my cargo hold from the previous scan. I figured I'd scan the monolith anyway and I was rewarded with the L1 data (Tablet only). So I'm very confused as to how to interpret the images or if this was just a bug. I'm going to check out a few more sites and see if I can find a pattern, in the meantime I have definitely noticed a large number or OrOr obelisks where they probably shouldn't belong (so wondering if they don't provide for wildcard data for that particular section).

Anyone else notice anything similar with the pictographs not matching the data received?
