Raw Deal

Yes the Raw Material Trader just appears to give a horrible deal because the surface mined stuff is so hard to find compared to Manufactured and Encoded.

Material traders are meant for trading down, not up or across.

Who said mat traders are only for trading down? Really? Do you even think about what you post before you say it? Do you perform any critical thinking here? Because it doesn't sound like it.

So what you are saying is that if I want HGE materials, then tough, I'll just have to fly around in circles for ages to get them... Even if I think it a rather crappy game mechanic I'd rather not play.

That sure makes sense...

Now.. i do feel like the 6 to 1 is a little mean.. i kinda like it that way. I mean you find mats in 3s anyway so realy its 2. I know you only get one back but i can find grade 4 matts very reliably. I farmed 50 chemical manipulators in about 2 hours and it was realy easy. Thats 8 pharmaceutical isolators. Enough to max about two grade 5 dirty drives.

But i also feel like the down trade is crazy.. i think i like it too much. I have 52 MEF left over from farming CIF in 2.4. Its like having crack on tap now. I can just max out my bins for firmware over and over. I mean 83 or something for 1 MEF at the lowest tire kinda makes grade 5 feel way worth finding.

So mabe a bit of a tweek is in order but it should be small i think.

When FD added the new mats specific to rings, I thought they were trying to encourage mining. But with a drop rate as low as the rare mats, no one is ever going to go mining for boron, lead or rhenium. Far easier to trade in one grade 4 and get 27.
Gameplay: 0, Gaming the play: 1.

That part in one of the Fdev livestreams where Sandy himself said that the material traders are designed to be top down and that players should bear that in mind kinda gave it away a little.

So you may want to direct your questions to one Sandy Sammarco, c/o Frontier Developments, instead of being an arrogant *** on here, darling.

I made a thread about this a while ago. The rates on all the material traders are extortion (I don't care if sandy wants it to be top down only, if that's the case he is simply wrong), and I made another thread on that. But the raw material trader has even more issues beyond the rates. Said thread is here (shameless plug) https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/409971-The-raw-material-trader-has-major-flaws

6 for 1 is a ridiculously high exchange rate.

I think 4 for 1 would be a far better rate. With 2 for 1 for going across the same level.

This was suggested by myself and many others during the beta. It's just common sense.

the whole new system of mat traders and engineering is completely rubbish and not thought out at all unless your thinking was let’s make players grind more. Just spent a week doing it and I have lost the will to live . You can have my stuff

Maybe these rates should be somewhat market driven. If no one is trading at the 6-1 ration then the traders will have lots of stock they cannot get rid of so the price goes down. Also, when demand goes up then the price goes up.
