Has anyone been able to apply "Drag Drive" to G5 Dirty Drives thrusters while being at Farseer ?

Because clearly i can't:

I thought you couldn't apply an experimental effect to a module engineered above the rank the current engineer can do. She should be able to add it to G3 drives, then you remote engineer them up to G5.

No. You cannot have an engineer modify an engineered module above the grade they can develop.

If you want DD5s with an experimental, you need to start the drives and while at G1-3 at Farseer you can place the experimental. Then you can finish the mod to G5 later.
If you are trying to modify a higher grade with a different experimental, you need to travel to an engineer that can do the level of modification.

I had the same issue OP. Apparently it is not possible to apply an experimental to a module that has been upgraded higher than the engineer supports.

You can apply the experimental on thrusters at Farseer up to level 3 only. Once the thruster is modded higher you need to visit Palin, or remove the mod completely and start over, applying the experimental at low grade and then finishing higher grades with remote engineering when the experimental is already in place.

BTW I'm not sure whether this is supposed to be possible or not (the error message definitely looks like a bug somewhere) but this is how it works right now.

This doesn't make any sense, experimental effects values don't scale with the modification grade, so why should i be forced to go again all the way to Palin to apply the experimental if it doesn't change the values ?

That doesn't make any sense to me :( , experimental effects values don't scale with modifications grade, so why would i need to do that ? Moreover, apparently other people can do it without any problems...
A higher grade modification is more complex than a lower one.

The complexity makes it more difficult to work with.

As a result without the experience to modify something so complex, the engineer wont' dare make changes to something they can't make themselves.

Because it's *already* modded above her qualifications.
If it was only G1-3 then she could work on it.

The Experimental does change the values. Higher Optimal Multiplier, Less Mass, Cooler engines, Sturdier construction...

You can engineer a new module with her to g3 with the modification, then remote engineer it up to g5 without flying to Palin (assuming you pinned dirty drives at Palin that is)
