What's Wrong With Elite.

I've played a bit of SC 3.0 since it came out.

Its almost there tbh.

So have I....no, it's not!

Two yrs ago I came within a click of purchasing the Hornet Ghost for ~£120 iirc - but in a fleeting bout of sanity, downgraded to an Aurora package. No issues with the purchase but the framerates & glitches are a joke right now.

CR's SC problem: overambitious

DB's ED problem: under-ambitious

My space game problem: Difficult to please

I definitely find myself agreeing with every point made by ObsidianAnt. I did participate in the skimmer gold rush but got bored once I had amassed 440 mil. I went back to my home system and bought an Anaconda, outfitted it for Deep Space exploration, and set off to do what I really wanted.

Same here, I got bored around 400MCr and went back to turbo-snatching occupied escape pods from under 'goids' noses.
Even though I knew well this is a short-lived opportunity to get rich, I just couldn't do it anymore. Too repetitive.
PS: I'm not sure how some people got 400MCr/hour. I had more like 80MCr and it still was a lot.

There is not a lot that is wrong with Elite: Dangerous, and FDev have (as far as I can tell) a team that are trying to realistically improve the Game. I would not say DBOBE is under ambitious, but more cautious (especially during the period of austerity that affected the World). However, I am easy to please, and I highly enjoying getting back out into Space!

1) The game is too homogenous.

2) Is a slave to reality in a game system full of unreality.

3) Very little persistence.

4) Is utterly at odds with itself in terms of PvP/PvE

5) Has literally no "wow. I've hit it big" moments hence why volyboom/quince/sothis etc are popular.

I think your first point is the most serious issue.

Hmm... I love ED and I've pumped over 1000 hours into it now, so I've definitely had my money's worth and I've had a lot of fun. But there are clearly a range of issues and flaws in the game that need properly addressing. There's certainly a lot of room for improvement.

Speaking of Star Citzen, which patch is the Jesus patch, the one that will cure everything? 3.1? 3.2? 3.3?

I was supposed to be 2.6, then when that fell flat on it's behind, 3.0 was the Jesus patch that was going to be just amazing. Yeah look how that turned out.

GC2017/3.0 rushed release for Christmas was the moment I got a refund on the money I'd sunk into it and activated a sleeper account with an Aurora starter pack on it.

Star Citizen? God, how embarrassing. It's like when someone you know suddenly starts trying to sell you Amway products or suggests you should try the "free personality test." Ugh.

I can't remember how much I've put into it, but... it's a lot given I've been playing since December 2013. So this isn't a 'this game sucks!' thread (and I hope it didn't come across that way), more a 'look at the potential the competition is putting out' (I know it isn't ED and isn't out and is full of bugs, flaws and it would make my machine melt). I'm not even saying we should be SC (we definitely shouldn't). Just... we're doing a lot of things right and some things wrong, and we shouldn't be ignoring the wrong. Beyond is trying to address these issues, but there's a fundamental issue I can't put my finger on. Hence this thread, and asking for input.

The thing is, Star Citizen is probably never coming out. Look up sunken cost fallacy in the dictionary and it says 'See Star Citizen'.

And if it does indeed release, it will be minimum viable product taken to the extreme. There isn't one bit of Star Citizen development that the elite dangerous team needs to take on board.

They just need to keep doing what they're doing, iterating and making forward steps. Elite will never be perfect, no game ever is, but at least it's not an absolutely unmitigated train wreck of a development disaster.

If you'll notice, this type of obnoxious SC stuff that gets deleted quickly brings out the people who DO say such things. As you'll notice if you scroll up.

Actually the space legs and EVA part of SC are the only things I liked about it, and I hope FD will keep their word and incorporate meaningful space leg game play in to ED one day.
