They don't worry about people buying stuff, they worry about robots hijacking user accounts. That's us. Perhaps the captcha is a bit over the top, but it's a safety measure fo the customer, not the seller.

It tries to identify you by other means first (e.g. if you have a static IP, cookies, etc). If it can't be certain - you will have to do the full captcha.
