T7 v T9???

[RolePlay On]

Hmmm...

I gotta T7 - call it the mule. Setup to carry 288t of cargo. Make lots of credits carrying medicine to outbreak systems (mwahahah! - dying and sick people will pay anything to get better). Ooops probly shud'na said that out loud - my mom used to tell me think it - don't say it. But I always say it - probly why no one likes me - probly why I'm a lone wolf bounty hunter and part time trader. Oh d.amn! There I go again - did I take my meds this morning? I can't seem to remember - oh well it'll just make it easier to visit the Haz Res tonight - love seeing those criminal scum vaporized. Ridd'n the Galaxy of evil - one - scumbag - at a time. Yeeeeeeee HAH!

Oh yeah - got a question for you ship spec experts out there. T7 - 288t - no shields, engineered to be fast and can drop a ton of mines if anyone sucessfully interdicts me which happens once in a blue moon - I saw one once - where was it, now? Good ship - I may be crazy but I'm not stupid.

Anyway a guy I know suggested I get a T9 so I could help more people - why would I wanna do that. Costs a lot more and even setup like the Mule it can only carry 330t or so - I think. And I'd have to go off and find the stuff those d.amned greedy engineers want to do simple performance tweaks they've probably done thousands of times - why haven't they trained their lackeys to do it - why? Maybe someday I'll haul meds to their systems, drop the canisters over their base and vaporize them as they fall slowly to the ground. Yeah that's it. Note to self find an engineer base in an outbreak system - no dummy that'd just be a waste of credits - shut up - I'm gonna do it - no you're not...

<rolls shoulders - shakes head rapidly left to right>

Wait - what! Sorry about that - the voices can get pushy sometimes.

Bak on subject: One wonders (hey - who is one - get the h.ell outt'a my head one) if this one (GET OUT!) should buy a T9 and if so what wood <ehhh - hehheh - he said wood> be the best way to outfit it?

Tell me - if you do I promise not to turn you into plasma - at least not when I'm on my meds anyway.

[RP Off]

Seriously - I've gone over everything and for the life of me cannot figure out the cost/benefit advantage of a T9 over a T7.

Thoughts? Is it worth the cost? Fun ship to fly? (my T7 can turn on a dime).

I presume you don't fly in open due to running shieldless build?

If you're not in open, absolutely go for a T9 and max out the cargo racks. 752t load. Does 20LY fully laden with a maxed out G5 FSD. Does 30+ unladen. They're spacecows to fly, slow, handle terribly and supercruise is sluggish to say the least.

But you'll make your money back in no time and be making much much more than with your T7.

You probably won't be running from any foes in the T9 but you can fit an SLF to help you in combat. Even with fight hanger I still have 680T cargo bay.

I’ll add to this question. What about smuggling in a T-9? Could make many millions per run, but getting that T-9 through the slot is a bit like trying to mash a marshmallow into a piggy bank. No boost run in that thing. Bunch of heat syncs and an auto dock?

I bought and engineered both a T7 and T9 right before Beyond 1.0 dropped. The T9 is a Cargo God, but a dog to fly. The T7 is much more fun to fly, but has nowhere near the cargo capacity.

You got a wrong impression from the cargo capacity of the T9, I have room for 756t ofs cargo while having above 500 shieldstrenght with 60% Thermal and 50% kinect resistence. And thats not the best possible (but plenty enough so I leave it at that). And the torps and missiles I have on board are pretty good at destroying npcs. But I didn't lose an npc interdiction in ages so its not like you have to fight, its more for the fun of it.

If its fun to fly depends on what you like, I love flying the T9 alltough if "turning on a dime" is something you want then the T9 won't deliver. He feels like hes called, Heavy.

Smuggling is possible too, use silent running well and it will work out. A bit more tricky on planetary ports but you can put in a srv and circumvent the problem there (land a bit outside and drive to the port, request docking in the srv, go into a garage and find yourself in your T9 parked in a hangar).

I got one before 3.0 and did some 1-roll G5s on it, and was quite pleased with its handling.
The key for me is to line up the slot before you drop out of SC.
Then it's a just boost and glide in.

Don't need to boost . Just go silent running and use heat sinks

Woah there!
Ahh what? You can do all this docking stuff in the srv?
:S

I run my T-9 shieldless but only when I'm drunk and tempted by greed.

Never ends well.

somewhat exploity but thanks - had not occurred to me.

My T-9 is primarily a bulk smuggler. For BGS reasons ofc.

Auto-Docking is always a bad idea. When you are on a repeat run, you get a feel for the approach.
Line up on the toast rack boost > FAOFF > zero Throttle > silent running > pop a heat sink and coast until you're at that spot where you need to kick FAON so that you're back under control through the slot. Then use landing gear for brakes in the last 300m.

What could go wrong?

*always fly with rebuy and drink responsibly.

Ah presumption! I also fly around in a shield-less T7...in Open. I mean, my ship name is The Sitting Duck, ID is PIR8-ME.

It's a damned invitation and have I ever been pirated in that thing in the four or five months I've been flying it? Nope...even in a CG.

Where's my meta!!!

756T! Whoaa. I remember visiting the Coriolis web site and fitting out the T9 for max cargo one night - couldn't even get it over 400T. Too many beers I guess. Gonna go take another look.

I like the idea of missile and Torpedoes and I believe since 3.0 the T9 has been up armored and FSD range increased some how (I know my T7 got a range boost with 3.0 - with a full load I now get 26 or 27LY and almost 32 unladen - or something like that - remember being shocked when I made what used to be a two jump run laden and it suddenly became just 1).

Not a big fan of a lumbering turtle though - slow and heavy works well as a hand gun caliber not so much I'd think in a space ship flyin' around in areas where everyone wants yur stuff.

Anyway - lots of very good advice - much appreciated.

Edit:
Just visited the Coriolis web site. Most tonnage I could get was 528t and that was with every single optional space loaded with the max size cargo hold that would fit.

How are you guys getting those high tonnage Numbers (coriolis not updated to 3.02 maybe?)

Went ahead and bought me a T9. After flying around home system and turning off auto dock and doing 8 manual docks - 2 of which resulted in hull damage - I decided to name it the Lumbering Toad. Apropos. The T9 feels like a heavy should feel. I don't look forward to having to fight anything with it. Got a couple of size 2 turreted beams with one on top and one on bottom and two size 1 seeker missiles and one size 2 seeker missile launcher. May switch those missile racks to mines - thoughts?

After hitting the cage twice on exit (1st exit I hit the top of the slot and 3rd exit hit the bottom of the cage) I decided to add back the Class 6 shields it came stock with - which as it turned out I didn't need since I learned how to enter and leave the slot with out colliding with it or the cage - all a matter of going low. 688T of hold space. 1st run with cargo, non mission - basic meds - I made 3.2M for a short 3 jump. I think today I'm gonna take her out and just go where ever the winds blow. I've only been successfully interdicted 1 time in the last year and that was because I got distracted by one of my grand kids. One wonders if I'll keep that record with the T9.

OH... one last thing. I've been popping out of witch space at full throttle forever without issue with all my other ships. See star, maneuver towards closest edge until past green ring - no issue. Tried that with the Toad. I can honestly say that that jump was the 1st time ED has actually put a bit of a scare in me. Barely made it out without getting vaporized and had to drop a heat sink to do it. Should'a figured that you couldn't jump in at full throttle with that lumbering giant - stupid should hurt - luckily I got away with it that time. Lesson learned.

Had a t7 which I use to fly for trade and mining, worked great. Got a t9 now which I spend most of the time trying not to crash into things in. It oesn't exactly turn on a ime but the extra cargo space is very welcome an I on't think I' ownsize back to the t7. It's the only ship I have been unwillingly intericte in because it just can't follow the target thingy. Also the letter between c and e seems to have stoppe working on my laptop. eep joy.

The ship doesn't have any issues with full throttle jumps, you just have to think ahead and be prepared to start maneuvering immediately, that pretty much goes for handling the T9 in general, always be at the very least a few seconds ahead of the ship.

A few things to note from experience.

1. The ship handles a lot better if flown FA-OFF

2. There is plenty of room in the mail slot for the T9

3. Use shields until you get used to the ship and avoiding interdiction's, after a while you'll find you won't need them. Even if you still scrape the ship every now and then, the money you make from the extra capacity more than pays for minor scrapes

4. You can engineer the lightweight hull G5 and get a large hull boost for no mass gain.

5. Lightweight everything, you'll be able to haul 704 tonnes at 20LY, 36LY empty, whilst carrying a fighter.

6. My weapon of choice is a mix of G5 Seekers, and reverb torps, that way you can submit on interdiction's and collect bountys. The mass penalty for carrying weapons is almost non existent due to overall mass of the ship.

7. Research survival techniques in a heavy ship, most important part is to not try and run a way in a straight line.

8. Buying basic medicines cheap, than filtering for systems in outbreak is a very good basic money maker (4 mill per trip) best option is to find boom state systems that export gold or palladium (50 million per one jump trip)
